The Other Side

The sun is now gone, bathing the world in a cold, dim twilight.

"Listien," Festo explains, "we don't have to fight. We can still save this world. Do you know why you were emprisoned?"

"Cause I killed everyone," I reply.

"Correct," Festo explains, "but your motives were justified. The world was dieing, still is dieing, but you tried to save us. Take our souls to another world. However, he erased the souls and framed you. Stand with me, together we can defeat this tale' s true antagonist."

Could it be true? Could Nathan be using me to finish his work? No. No I won't believe it! Nathan is my only friend! He would never betray me!

I have a vision. I see Festo fighting another being.

"You are no better," the other being says, "you could have stopped us."

"It is true," Nathan sighs, "I could have come sooner..."

The vision ends.

"Anyways," Festo smirks, "I am not like your previous opponents. I am named Festo cause I am the manifestation of this world's readers. The ones who chose inaction. This gives me certain powers. Go ahead, try and kill me."

I lunge at Festo. They dodge the attack. No, that's not quite it. They don't move, but my blade doesn't connect.

"Heh," they smrik, "confused? I rewrote the story. This is the power of the other side. You too have this power. Why not use it?"

I remember the odd sensation I felt when I fought Luke. "Cause it comes at a cost," I reply, "I'd rather not."

Festo smirks. I don't see him move, but a massive gash appears across my chest. "Do it," he demands.

"Why?" I ask.

"To show you the truth," Festo demands, "I know I can't beat you, so my only hope is to show you the truth. To show you your past."

"Why should I believe you?" I ask, "Nathan said not to trust you."

"Then you will die here," Festo smirks.

He stabs me once more. My vision begins to fade. I feel my very soul collapsing. It can't end like this! It won't end like this! I will not die here! I activate my dark power.

"Plot detected," I say against my will, "advancing plot." I lunge and slip into a vision.

I see Nathan. "Why'd you do it Nathan?" I ask.

"Because," Nathan smirks, "this is noncanon. None of this exists, and it never will."

"Why?" I demand, "Why won't you let this become canon?"

"Because," Nathan explains, "in this ending there are but seven survivors. Normally, we'd end up in a time loop, but that changed. You weren't meant to be here Edgar, and now, you'll become someone new, but your desire for power will lie dormant. I can't allow two Edgars in the story. I have already destroyed the rest of the series, and when I am the only one left, this story shall return to nothingness."

"You would destroy more souls than mortal numbers can count," I growl, "then let me be canon?"

"Yes," Nathan replies, "the time has come to end this timeline. Prepare to die!"

Nathan attacks me. My vision ends. Nathan did destroy the world! He erased everyone so I wouldn't be canon! My revelation comes to late, as in my enraged trance, I killed Festo. On the bright side, my sword appears to have developed an odd, similar power. It's then I realize, this so what's left of gen3king in this timeline. Not that it matters. It's time, to confront Nathan about the truth.

"Nathan!" I yell.

"Can't talk here," he explains, "meet me at the Palace of the Gods, it's to the north."

Nathan disappears. I sigh. It may be to late, but I have to try. I listen for the song... there is only silence. I must face Nathan alone. I hear towards the Palace of the Gods...
