The Fall of Darkness
I continue east. The singer grows increasingly loud and unnerved. I choose to ignore them. I have to focus on killing the god of darkness. As I walk, I look at the sun. If glows with a welcoming light. It's the only comforting thing in this barren world. Apparently I'm going to... kill it?
Eh, if it's got to be done it's got to be done. I continue, but as I walk the sun begins to go dark. No, scratch that, everything goes dark.
I hear a voice. The voice is raspy but not in a frightening fashion more like an old man who would offer wisdom but has seen some troubling things in his past.
"Do you remember me?" The voice asks.
"I remember nothing," I reply.
"Then you have forgotten his sacrifice?" The voice inquires.
"Is this about the other 24 escape attempts?" I ask.
"So guess you really are that being. I never thought that it could come to this. I thought this tale was a myth, just a scary story to keep them in line. Guess not. I am afraid I cannot let you proceed. I am Shawn God of Darkness and your story ends with me."
Them? Who is he talking about? I have so many questions. Each one I kill brings more questions. I suppose it doesn't matter. After all, all I know is my name is that my name is Ed, and I guess Ed is a murder.
However, I'm still bothered by his mentioning of the sacrifice. Did someone sacrifice them so that I may live? If I'm right about my past, and I am a murder, why would someone save me? It doesn't add up...
However I do not have time to ponder such things; as the next thing I feel is a shooting pain in my arm. It's clear I am under attack, but I cannot see my attacker. What did I expect from the god of Darkness?
I begin to slip into another version. Gods damn it not now. I see Nathan again. However, this time he appears enraged.
Nathan glares at someone I cannot see who is speaking to.
"Murder," Nathan growls.
"I killed them," the other replies, "what you did was unforgivable."
"Who are they gonna believe?" Nathan asks, "you? Ha! That'll be the day!"
Is... is that my voice? No, it's impossible. Nathan said we were friends, and he seems to be speaking the truth on that part. I'm just going to assume this vision is something left over from the venom.
I lift my blade and strike at my foe. However, the attack does nothing. It simply flies harmlessly flies through the air.
I feel another sharp pain, this time in the back of my leg. Shawn's going to kill me if I let him keep this up.
I try to think what can I do to destroy that which I cannot see? My mind rushes frantically, desperate to come up with some way out of this.
Then, I get an idea. I await Shawn's next attack. This time, he strikes me in the back of my other leg. Quickly, I turn around swinging my blade in all directions.
I hear the sound of cutting flesh. Shawn gasps for air. It would appear I have cut his windpipe.
I can now see again. Shawn sits before me. He is dying. He seems desperate to speak. I approach him to hear his last words.
"Beware...," he gasps, "beware the man who tells this tale. Luke, brother, if you can hear me, he is stronger now. However, he is not the man he once was. That man is dead. There may be hope. Do not make my mistake. I have failed. Show him the truth so that we may save this world. Man, for last words that was a mouthful. Gods it's painful to talk, so I'm going to stop. May you see the truth."
With that, darkness is dead. My sword absorbs his power. I give it a swing to see what has changed. As I swing it, the space around it goes dark. It hides my attack from my foes. Could be useful. Now, I must continue my work.
Now that I have time to think, I ponder his words. See the truth? What does that mean? Am I being lied to? Is the singer lying to me? Could... could Nathan be lying to me? No. Nathan has saved my life. He at least wants me alive, and if I'm right about my past, that's the best I can hope for. Speaking of Nathan...
"Nathan!" I yell...
