Chapter 5: The Return of the Past

In the Southern Isles

3rd person POV:

Hans was sitting in his cell, awaiting something from his brother. It's been almost a month since Odonis snuck onto Arendelle's ship, and now Hans has yet to receive word of his progress so far. Hans knew that all of his mail would either go to his father or brothers, but he had to try.

His head perked up as he heard someone open the dungeon door from afar. He looked to see his eldest brother, Adgarr, standing before him. They both made nothing but eye contact for a minute before Adgarr threw a letter at him.

It was addressed to him by someone anonymous. Hans smiled, knowing that it was Odonis. When Adgarr left, Hans tore the letter open and read the letter.

It said:

"Dear Hans,

I have finally given you information about what's happening in Arendelle. While it's taking quite a while, I can gladly say that I have a full alliance with all three sisters, though the youngest seems to be more problematic than her sisters.

Give me one more week and I'll have more than enough to help you take over.

With great regards, Prince Odonis."

When Hans was done reading the letter, he threw it in frustration.

"It took you almost a month?" he asked to himself. "Pathetic. It took me only three days and I could do better than you could."

After that, he took a moment to think to himself.

"Perhaps you aren't doing what I told you," he whispered. "Are you really trying to actually befriend those princesses?"

When he finally realized what was happening, anger started to flash in his eyes. He gave his brother one task and he couldn't complete that.

He then gasped as a brilliant idea appeared in his head.

"You know what they say," he started. "If you wanna do something, you're gonna have to do it yourself."

In Arendelle

Three hours earlier

3rd person POV:

When they all saw the letter, the gang started falling out laughing.

"You really sent that?" Anna said in between giggles.

Odonis nodded, also laughing. "It's not like he's gonna come to Arendelle anyway. He's too busy cleaning after my brothers while being covered in horse poop."

After he said that, everyone started back laughing.

"I'm gonna be honest here, Grass Lemon," Julie started. "That was pretty funny, but how is the letter is gonna be sent to Hans? I mean, he's in prison."

Odonis just shrugged. "I don't know really, the note is anonymous so they might think he was trying to escape to Arendelle or has someone spying for him, but no one knows that it's me."

Julie chuckled. "Well, I'm glad someone other than Elsa, Anna and I told him something funny."

Odonis laughed a bit before looking at Julie.

Julie noticed this and smiled. "What?"

Odonis smiled. "I don't know. I just like your eyes."

Julie blushed. After a week of them fighting, it was sweet of him to say that.

But then she shook her head. No. she thought. He has to earn me. He's not off the hook no matter how cute his smile is.

Julie took a breath before getting up.

"I have to go to my room to get something real quickly, I'll be back," she said as she walked to her room.

When Julie went to her room, she quickly closed her door and pressed her back against the door.

"Why can't I just ignore him!" she shouted as Shadow appeared.

Shadow shrugged. "Maybe you just have to admit that you kind of like him?"

Julie scoffed. "Like I said, Shadow. He has to earn my love."

Shadow smirked. "Then why does it feel like you already gave your heart to him?"

Julie didn't answer. She just turned to Shadow sadly.

"Even if I did, then there is no way that he actually likes me." she sighed.

Shadow looked at her in disbelief. Then she remembered how she looked at him.

She then quickly sat up.

"Oh my god, he actually likes me!" she finally realized.

Shadow laughed. "Finally you figured it out."

Julie's face was red. When did he-? Why would he? She thought as everything started circling her mind at once.

She then gasped.

"The trolls!" she said.

"What?" Shadow asked.

"Kristoff said that the trolls were love experts, maybe they could help me with this!" Julie said.

"He also said that Sven could talk, Julie. Are you sure you wanna trust his advice?" Shadow pointed out.

Julie thought for a moment before nodding.

Shadow sighed. "Okay. but we leave tonight!"

Then they heard happy screams from outside Julie's door.

Julie opened the door to see Elsa and Anna outside her door.

"We're coming too!" Anna squealed cheerfully. "I love a good quest for love!"

Julie looked at both of them simultaneously. "I have no say in this do I?"

Anna shook her head as Elsa shrugged.

"Fine," Julie sighed. "But like Shadow said, we leave tonight. Better be ready."

Julie's POV:

A few hours later

I met Anna and Elsa outside a few hours later and after making sure that Odonis and Kristoff were asleep, we went on our way.

"So," Elsa asked. "So you finally admitted that you have feelings for him?"

"More like she's trying hard to deny it," Shadow answered.

"Can't say I blame you," Anna said. "You know what happened with Hans and I. Of course, you have to take extra precautions when it comes to a Westerguard son."

I just looked at her. "Then why are you trying so hard to make Odonis and I a thing?"

Anna shrugged. "I think you two will be a great couple one day."

I rolled my eyes as we continued on.

After an hour and a few wrong directions, we finally made it to the trolls.

Personally, I've never been in the trolls' land as far as I remember. Elsa told me I had but I was a baby then.

As we were coming closer to them, the ground started rumbling.

"Woah!" I screamed.

The ground started rumbling and the rocks that were around us started rolling towards us. I held Elsa's hand tightly.

The rocks finally stopped when they got close enough and revealed themselves to be the trolls.

"How does Kristoff get used to this?" I ask Elsa and Anna.

They just shrugged, not taking their eyes off of the trolls.

The trolls started muttering as Anna walked closer to them.

"Um, hi!" she said. "You probably remember me, I'm Anna. my little sister, Julie, wanted to ask you about something for a moment."

All the trolls looked at me, which made me entirely uncomfortable considering that they did it all in unison.

Then, one of the older trolls, a woman, started walking towards me. When she was close enough, she put out both of her hands for me to take. I was hesitant, but I did.

"I'm guessing that's you?" the lady asked. I nodded. "Great, dear! I'm Bulda. What's your question?"

I was surprised. Kristoff said the trolls were very social, very very social. But she was kind of nice.

"Um," I said. "There's this guy. Odonis, you might know him. I know he likes me, but after everything his brother has done, and after what he did a few weeks ago to me, I'm not sure if I should feel the same way. He's nice now, but should I really trust him?"

Bulda frowned as she thought about my question.

"At first you talked about his brother," she said. "Who is he?"

I sighed. "Hans. From the Southern Isles."

Then, just as I finished, there were gasps and mutters from the other trolls.

Bulda clapped her hands to silence the other trolls.

"You are right for not trusting him at first," she started. "But as the months continue, try to just let him earn your trust before he actually confesses his love for you, then you'll know if you feel the same way."

"But I've tried that," I said. "I tried but I just can't do it without him just pulling me in and making me forget what I promised myself!"

Bulda nodded slowly. "This happens, darling. The only thing I can promise you is just try for at least another month, and then after he's fully proven himself, then let him start pulling you in and try to accept him."

I didn't really understand, but nodded anyway. "Thanks," I said.

She nodded, smiling at me.

After that I stood up, getting ready to leave. I was about to leave before I stopped.

I turned around. "Is Grand Pabbie here?"

Bulda was surprised by my sudden question but nodded.

"Yes, but he's asleep right now," she said. "Why do you want to see him?"

I sighed. Kill two birds with one stone I guess.

"I need to know if he has anything to say about something I have. It's a note, I don't have it with me, but I do remember it. It's from my past, and I want to know where it's from." I explained.

Bulda looked at her fellow trolls before nodding at me and rolling away.

I look at Elsa, Anna, and Shadow in confusion.

"Is she coming back?" I ask them as I walk to their side.

Elsa nodded, but it was uncertain. "Yeah, I think she will. Honestly, I don't really know."

After a minute, Bulda comes back with an old troll. The troll wore a moss cape and had on a yellow gem-like necklace.

It was Grand Pabbie. Kristoff and Anna told me about him.

I walk forward to him and kneel down to his height.

"Um..." I start. "I guess she-!"

"I know about the note, Julia. And it seems plain but suspicious." he interrupted me.

I look at him in shock. "You know what the note says? I saw it with my mother and father when Shadow showed me a moment from the past two years ago, but I don't know if my parents are alive or not, or what the note could really tell me about what happened or what caused that moment to happen."

Grand Pabbie waited for me to finish before talking again.

"The past is a hard thing to decipher, but once you get close to it, there's no changing what happens in your future."

I looked at him confused. "Meaning?"

Pabbie sighed. "Meaning that you have to wait a little while longer until you can be able to find the truth about your past and unlock the meaning of what it's telling you. But, if you're desperate, I suggest you try to find the person closest to you who is sure to give you answers."

Find the person closest to me? But I don't know anyone who...

Kai...

I quickly get up.

"Thank you for the info! I know who I have to see!"

Anna, Shadow, and Elsa followed me to our horses as we rode to Arendelle.

When we got there, I rushed into the castle to look for Kai, but Elsa stopped me.

"Wait," she said. "It is too late for your questions right now, Julie."

I stared at her in disbelief. "But Elsa, if we don't-"

"If you don't get enough sleep, then you'll be angry by tomorrow," she said firmly. "Let's just wait until tomorrow to get your answers?"

I sighed, defeated, but nodded as Anna and Elsa walked me to my room.

To be fair, I was sleepy but not yet ready to fall asleep.

I promised myself that day that I was gonna complete two things

Finding the truth about my parents

Finding out Odonis's real feelings about me and what that means for us

3rd person POV:

The shores of Arendelle

Hans finally took a sharp inhale as he made it out of the cold waters. Yes. he was in Arendelle once again, having escaped the hand of his family, he was going to do one thing and one thing only.

Destroy Arendelle and finally secure the throne.

He looked up from his state and noticed a bunch of guards blocking the entrance. He cursed under his breath. He knew he was gonna have to create a diversion to get himself inside.

He ran to the nearby horse stable and hid at the sides, turning back a few times to see if anyone was following him.

He then looked to see if any of the guards were at the back of the castle. There were a few, two guards. They looked easy enough to trick so he put his plan into action.

He ran to the castle and ducked under a nearby chair. He had to make sure he wouldn't get spot. He then grabbed a large stick, large enough to hurt someone. He then took his aim and threw it at one of the guards behind the castle.

The guard who was hit by the giant stick, quickly passed out, and the other guard looked panicked. He started to call for the other guards to come and help. The guards up front heard the noise and they all rushed to the ailing guards' side.

Hans smiled. Now was his chance. With them distracted, he ran inside the castle, going unnoticed by all of the guards who were at the back.

Those guards are too easy to trick. He thought as he looked up the stairs.

He knew his brother was in one of those rooms, but he didn't want to find his brother, he wanted to find one of the sisters.

He decided to search for Anna first. He ran up the stairs, opening every door to see which one was Anna's. When he got to the second to last one on the second floor, he thought that one was Anna's but when he opened the door. He was greeted with the surprised face of his younger brother, Odonis.

Hans was surprised as well, but that surprise suddenly turned into anger as he stormed towards his brother and grabbed him by his arm.

"Hans, what are you doing here?" he yelled, struggling to get Hans off of him.

"You had one job, brother, and you couldn't even do that right!" he yelled back. "You know what they say. If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself!"

They then started struggling for a moment. Hans trying to slit Odonis' throat, and Odonis trying his best to match with his brothers' strength.

Then, after a moment of them struggling against each other, Hans threw Odonis onto the ground. Odonis groaned as he fell. Hans, seeing his state, pressed his foot down onto his back.

"You know, Brother?" he said. "Our family would be better off not having a fourteenth brother, don't you think?"

Hans bent down, his foot still firmly pressed against Odonis' back, and put his dagger against Odonis' throat.

"Say goodbye, brother!" he smiled.

He then lifted his dagger to strike him but was stopped when something hit his back.

"Don't you lay another hand on him you-"

Hans turned around to face the person who threw the thing at him. He saw someone with blonde hair staring right back at him.

"Hans..." they said. Slightly lowering their hand.

Hans smiled when he noticed who it was.

"Long time no see...

...Princess Julia."
