Chapter 18: The Kraken
Davy Jones: What are you doing?
Bill: I'm in, matching his wager. An eternity......in service to you.
Will: No
Regardless of Will's feelings, the game begins.
Bill: I bid three twos
Will: Don't do this
Bill: The die's been cast, Will. Your bid, Captain
Davy Jones: Four threes
Will: Five threes
Bill: Six threes
Davy Jones: Seven fives
Everyone checks their dice again, there are a total of seven sixes. Will is stuck and realises that he can't go higher, so he goes for a bluff.
Will: Eight fives
But.....Davy Jones knows that Will was lying.
Davy Jones: Welcome to the crew, Lad
Will knew he was screwed, but then out of nowhere, Bootstrap Bill makes a choice.
Bill: Twelve Fives
Davy Jones stares at Bill, livid at his intervention.
Bill: Call me liar, or up the bid
Davy Jones: And be called liar myself for my troubles?
He slips the key back inside his shirt.
Davy Jones: Bootstrap Bill, you are a liar, and you will spend eternity of service to me on this ship. William Turner.....feel free to go ashore the very next time we make port.
Jones laughs as he stands up and moves away, while Will turns to his Father, livid at what he just did.
Will: You fool! Why did you do that?
Bill: I couldn't let you lose
Will: It was never about winning or losing....
Bill:......The key
Later as the night still lingered in the sky, most of the crew were asleep while one sole sailor, Greenbeard, stands watch. Then, Bootstrap Bill appears
Bill: Captain says I'm to relieve you
Greenbeard didn't seem convinced so he looks at Bill, sceptical.
Bill: Captain says
Greenbeard takes the word of warning and leaves, Bill nods to Will who breaks cover and heads for the Captain's Cabin. The door creaks open and Will slips in, he closes the door and looks around, then he recoils from the smell.
The Captain's bunk was empty, Davy Jones was sprawled into the organ, he was fast asleep in the middle of playing, his hand pressed down on a single key.
As the ship rocks with the ocean swell, his foot presses in a pedal below, and the key plays a long, single tone.
Will creeps close and could see that the arm was in his way, so he gently lifts it. Jones stirs, so Will quickly presses down on the same key with his finger.
Will reaches in and moves the octopus beard away and takes out the chain that had a key at the end of it.
He goes to grab the key, but once he makes contact, one of Jones' tentacles reaches out and yoinks the key back from Will. It won't let it go, but Will conjures up an idea and rolls up the cloth given to him by Jack.
He sneaks the cloth in the grip of the tentacle, and then takes the key. It works out for Will, so he leaves the cabin and it's slumbering Captain.
A longboat hangs at the ready on the main deck, Bootstrap hands Will his vest and scabbard as a bundle. Will puts them in the boat and receives a black knife from his Father.
Bill: Take this too, always meant for you to have it. Get yourself to land, and stay there
Will: You have to come with me
Bill: I'm bound to the ship, but by the Captain's leave
Will: You can't stay here
Bill: It was always in my blood I'd die at sea. That's not a fate I ever wanted for you
Will: You didn't have to choose it for yourself, either
Bill: I can say I did what I had to when I left to go pirating....but it would taste a lie to say it wasn't what I wanted. You owe me nothing, Will. Go.
Will: They'll know you helped me
Bill: What more can they do to me?
Will: I will take this, with a promise. I will find a way to sever Jones' hold on you. I will not rest until this blade pieces his heart. I promise, I will not abandon you
They lock eyes, Bootstrap nods and goes to the rope pulley, dropping the boat into the water. Bootstrap glaces down and sees Will on the water, a wave passes and then there is nothing but black sea and rolling whitecaps.

As day rises, Will's boat finds itself at a ship, he is covered in a blanket after being allowed onto the main deck. Bellamy, Burser and the Quartermaster eye him with suspicion.
Bellamy: Strange thing, to come upon a longboat so far out in open waters.
Will: Just put as many leagues behind us as you can, as fast as you can
Bellamy: What are we running from?
Will doesn't answer, his eyes drift over to a wedding dress. It was Elizabeth's, and it was draped over the Captain's desk chair.
Will: That dress, where did you get it?
Bellamy: Funny, that dress. Found aboard the ship, put quite a stir into the crew. Thought it was a spirit, bringing an omen of ill-fate.
Will: That's foolish
Bellamy: Oh, aye, exceedingly foolish! It brought good fortune! The spirit told us, put in at Tortuga, and we made a nice bit of profit there, off the books
Will plays with the dress' fabric and smiled to himself.
Will: I imagine....some of your crew might have jumped ship there?
Bellamy: Bound to happen, figured into the overhead.
Sailor: [Runs In] Captain! A ship's been spotted!
Bellamy: Colours?
Sailor: She's not flying any, sir
Bellamy: Pirates
Will: Or worse
The Flying Dutchman raced towards the small ship while under morning sun of the next day. On the main deck, Davy Jones held the drawing of the key in his hand and crumpled it.
Bootstrap was in manacles and shoved to the rail besides Jones.
Davy Jones: Your son was fortunate enough to find a ship, yet not so fortunate as to find land
Bill: Please, Will should not be punished on account of Jack Sparrow. It's him you want
Davy Jones: What makes you believe it is your son who is being punished here?
Bill:.....No....
Davy Jones grabs Bootstrap by the neck and forces him around.
Davy Jones: You will watch this!
Jones looks at a crew mate as a whip crack is heard. On deck, a crewmen turn the capstan, which is a central wooden pillar that rises slowly upwards.
Davy Jones: Let no joyful voice be heard, let no man look up at the sky in hope. Let this day be cursed, by me who ready to wake the Leviathan.
The crewmen let go, and the pillar drops with a deep resounding boom as it strikes the hull, a sound echoes out into the water.
Will climbs the largest yardram and looks to see the ship on the horizon. Bellamy lifts his scope and spots the Flying Dutchman closing in on them.
Will: It's the Dutchman! I've doomed us all...
Suddenly the ship lurches to a stop, and Will fights to hang on.
Burser: Mother Cary's chickens! What happened?
Quartermaster: Must have hit a reef
Bellamy: Free the rudder! Hard to port, then starboard, and back again!
The sailors repeat the order, but then a sailor points out something to the others while scared.
Bellamy was gone.
They look over the water as a Kraken tentacle rises up. Bellamy is caught, he screams before being slapped down.
Sailors: KRAKEN!
Arms of the huge creature swoop up the starboard side of the ship, clearing men from the deck, smashing the longboats. Then, the Burser appears while waving Elizabeth's Wedding dress.
Burser: Here it is! Take it! Take it!
He slips and falls, sliding and tumbling over the rail. The other sailors grab axes, spears and swords so that they can Jack at the tentacles. But they had little to no effect, and a sailor is lifted into the sky before being smashed into a mast.
The mast breaks and falls, so Will had to jump across to another sail. He uses his knife to cut the sail and ride down, beneath him was a tentacle curled up around the mask.
He slashes at it, but then two tentacles rise up and crash down, splitting the ship into two. A sailor plummets down into the water between the halves of the ship, Will is also thrown into the sea.
He opens his eyes to see the Kraken itself, its tentacles wrapped around the ship's rudder.
Will swims up and grabs onto a piece of wood, he looks over to see that one lifeboat had made it into the water. He calls out to it, but them a tentacle rises and slams onto the boat, smashing it.
Back on the Dutchman's command deck, Davy Jones surveys the scene. He curiously notes the Wedding Dress floating in the water, before turning towards the deck.
A half dozen men from the Edinburgh Trader are lined up and on their knees, including the cook.
Maccus: The boy's not here, he must have been claimed by the sea
Davy Jones: I am the sea!
Bootstrap Bill reacts to the news, devasted. Jones catches him by the neck again.
Davy Jones: You need some time alone with your thoughts
He shoves Bootstrap away toward some crewmen, he was done with him.
Davy Jones: Brig
Maccus: What of the survivors?
Davy Jones: There are no survivors
The survivors exchange glances, thinking that they were still here. But then, Adonis approaches with his metal claws and kills off a sailor.
The others follow his lead while Will, who was peering through a space in the rail, looks away from the sudden and brutal act of violence.
Jones pauses, something was distracting him, he moves towards the spot on the rail that Will was peering through. He turns back towards the crew.
Davy Jones: The chest is no longer safe, chart a course to Isla Cruces. Get me there first, or there be the devil to pay
Koleniko: First?
Davy Jones: Who sent that thieving charlatan into my ship? Who told him of the key?
Adonis: Jack Sparrow.....
Jones: That pest will be dealt with
Jones looks down over the rail, but Will wasn't there. He turns away from it as the ship comes about, while Will is revealed to be clinging to the hull.
He had heard every word.

Back on the Black Pearl, the main deck specifically, Jack was seen carrying a bottle while approaching Elizabeth. She was staring out at sea while talking to Blue.
Blue: And then he slipped and broke his leg
Elizabeth: [Giggles] I cannot believe you lured him to such an obvious trick!
Blue: He was too blinded by rage to notice
Jack: Ahem. Elizabeth! Are you well? Everything shipshape and Bristol Fashion?
Elizabeth backs away from his breath, and Blue does the same thing.
Jack: My tremendous intuitive sense of the female creature informs me you are troubled
Blue: Did you eat with the Cannibals when I was locked up?!
Jack: What? Of course not!
Elizabeth takes the bottle from Jack and drinks, surprising the Captain.
Elizabeth: I just thought I'd be married by now. I am so ready to be married
Blue: I'm not ._.
Elizabeth: You might have to wait a bit longer, Blue
Jack: I like marriage! It's like a wager on who will fall out of love first!
Blue: That's....amusing
Jack: You know, I am captain of a ship. I could perform a marriage right here, right now on this deck, right now
Blue: You....can?
Jack: Yes, surprising?
Blue: Very, when it comes to you
Jack: Twat. So how's about it, Miss Swann?
Elizabeth: No thank you
Jack: Why not? Admit it, we are so much alike, you and I. I and you
Elizabeth: Except for a, oh, a sense of decency and honor, and a moral center. And personal hygiene
Blue: Hah!
Jack: Trifles. You will come over to my side, in time. I know
Elizabeth: You seem quite certain, despite the attraction becoming more present in your son, who I'd prefer for more to you.
Blue: Umm....thank you?
Elizabeth: You're welcome. D-Did I really just say that?
Jack: One word, luv. Curiosity. You long for freedom, to do what you want because you want it. To act on selfish impulse, you want to see what it's like. Someday....you won't be able to resist.
Blue: What is Father doing? He is acting very.....strange
Elizabeth: Why doesn't your compass work?
Jack: My compass works just fine
Blue: I can vouch for that
Elizabeth: Because you and I are alike. And there will come a moment where you have the chance to show it......to do the right thing
Jack: I love those moments! I like to wave as they pass by!
Elizabeth: You will have a chance to do something brave, and in that moment you will discover something.
Jack thought to himself about what Elizabeth said, because he had already done that.
Elizabeth: That you are a good man
Blue: Debatable
Jack: All evidence to the contrary
Blue: Still debatable
Jack: You are living evidence, boy!
Elizabeth: I have faith in you, do you know why?
Jack: Do tell, dear
Elizabeth looks at him knowingly, how he savors every word. She knows he wants her, playing into it, so she moves closer.
Elizabeth: Curiosity, you're going to want it. A chance to be admired, and gain the rewards that follow. You won't be able to resist. You're going to want to know....what it tastes like
Jack: I want to know what it tastes like
Blue: What is even going on? I am confuzzled!
Elizabeth: And since you are a good man, I know you would never want to put me in a position to compromise my honor. It would make it seem like Blue was merely adopted by you
Jack begins to cough in shock, while Blue's eyes were wide in surprise.
Blue:.....Damn, okay ._.
To regain his confidence, Jack raises his hand to stroke Elizabeth's hair. He saw that the Black Spot had returned, so he spins away to hide it from Elizabeth.
Elizabeth: I'm proud of you, Jack
Blue: Someone other than myself saying that? It cannot be!
Gibbs: Land ho!
Jack races to the rail with a fearful look on his face as he looks down at the water. In the distance was Isla Cruces, which was too far away for his tastes.
Jack: I want my jar
Blue: I'll go and get it
The black pearl anchors past the outer reef while Jack Sparrow rides in a longboat, utterly terrified as he clutched his jar of dirt. Next to him was Blue, and opposite them was Elizabeth and Norrington.
Pintel and Ragetti were also present as they were pulling the oars, although there was a problem with them being in sync.
Pintel: You're pulling too fast
Ragetti: You're pulling too slow, we don't want the Kraken to catch us
Jack winces with each mention of the Kraken.
Pintel: I'm saving me strength for when it comes. And I don't think it's Krack-en, anyways. I always hear it said Kray-Ken
Ragetti: What, with a long A? Krock-en's how it is in the orignal Scandinavian. And Krack-en is a lot closer to that
Pintel: Well we ain't original Scandinavians, are we? Kray-Ken
Ragetti: If it's so mythical, then why are you pulling so fast?
Blue: Lads, I'm not going to lie, the Kraken won't give a damn if you can't say it's name right. It doesn't think like us, and will kill you either way
Both: Oh....
A splash is heard, and this prompted both men to start rowing much more quickly and in sync. The boat lands on Isla Cruces, and Jack sets his jar onto the boat.
He strips off his jacket and grabs a shovel, putting it over his shoulder. Then he turns to Pintel and Ragetti.
Jack: Guard the boat, mind the tide
Jack walks off with the others, and then Ragetti decide to continue his squabble with Pintel.
Ragetti: And you were wrong about To-mah-to, if I recall
Pintel: I like tomatoes.
Blue: I hate them T_T
Jack hands Elizabeth the compass, she opens it while Jack peeks at the heading. He sets off with Blue, Elizabeth and Norrington following behind as they come across a church.
Norrington: I didn't expect anyone to be here
Elizabeth: There's not
Norrington: You know this place?
Elizabeth: Stories. Isla Cruces. The church came to the island and brought salvation.....and disease, and death. They say the priest had to bury every body, one after the other....it drove him mad, and he hung himself.
Blue:.....I don't like that bed time story Q_Q
Elizabeth: [Smiles] Then I'll be sure to not repeat it again
Blue: [Thumbs Up] Thank you ^_^
Norrington: Better mad with the rest of the world, than sane alone
Elizabeth regards Norrington, a little worried.
Jack: No fraternising with the help, love.
Norrington: Oh, after you, Sir
Jack hands Norrington his shovel, then follows Elizabeth while the former commodore brings up the rear. Jack waits impatiently as Elizabeth passes him while following the compass.
Suddenly, the needle swings around the opposite direction. She turns and faces Jack, but then the needle swings away, so she goes to follow it. It swings back again towards Jack, frustrating Elizabeth.
She sits down in the sand and tosses the compass away.
Blue: She is definitely being bamboozled by it.....
Elizabeth: It doesn't work! It doesn't show you what you want most!
Blue: Maybe you're not thinking outside the box?
Elizabeth: What do you mean?
Jack looks at the compass without touching it, then realises what was wrong.
Jack: It does work, you're sitting on it!
Elizabeth: Beg your pardon?
Jack: Move
Jack was about to shove Elizabeth away, but Blue does the better thing and just picks her up, moving her away. Elizabeth's face goes red and she had an embarrassed look.
Blue: I believe you are sitting on the spot
Blue sets Elizabeth back on her feet, and she felt.....disappointed that she was standing again.
Jack marks the spot where Elizabeth was with his foot, making an X sign. He looks at Norrington, who gets the hint and starts digging.
But....on the outer reef of Isla Cruces...was the Flying Dutchman approaching, with Davy Jones peering through the spy glass from his deck.
