Last night I didn't get to much sleep. All of the information zooming in my brain on an endless loop. Talking animals are a work of fiction I thought They're not real. And yet my talking feline friend lay spread out, snoozing on top of my dresser. I thought back to the 21st of the last month. That's the day my life changed.
The day passed in a blur. Soon I was driving home from another school day. I reached that strange corner once more. Cars passed and I drove onward. I glanced out the window to see a girl with bubblegum-pink hair that went past her hips. Her hair covered most of her face, but I could tell she was watching my car.
I realized that I hadn't been watching the road and looked quickly back. There was something in the middle of the road. I swerved to dodge the object, but I ended up crashing into a streetlamp on the other side of the road. Shaken, I got out of the car to look at the damage. The streetlamp was slightly bent and smoke was rolling out from under the car hood. I swore aloud and kicked the car.
This did not help. With my foot aking, I limped into the road to see what had caused me to crash. There, in the middle of the road, was a black case. Attached to the handel was a plastic tag. My jaw dropped as I read the name on the tag. It said Alice R. in bold, black letters. Well... it does have my name on it. I grabbed the case and began to open it. A rock hit me in the back of the head. I looked down at it and in small, scratchy writing, it said 'not out here'.
Confused, I looked up and saw no one near me. No one at all. I picked up the case and took out my phone. I called the home phone but there was no answer. I heard a faint whoosh behind me. I tuned to see Misty, licking her front paw. "You know," she said," If you ever are in a spot like this again, you could just call my name. I have quite wonderful hearing if you must know."
I rolled my eyes," Can you just take me home. Misty nodded, then looked up and down the road. I crouched down to Misty's level. She placed her paw on my arm and shortly after, we were in my bedroom. " Are you going to open it?" "What? Oh yeah.." I set the case on my bed and flipped the laches. It sprung open to reveal a paper, folder into a small square, strapped to the bottom of the case.
I took the paper out, unfolded it and read it aloud.
'Dear Alice Rells,
I am sorry that you are hearing the news like this. I truly am. On October 21st of this year, your mother had past in a car accident. Well, that is what we all thought. My group has found that, possibly, your mother was murdered. I know this may be a shock, but it is only a possibility. Do not be worried if you see any of our people around our town. They are there to protect you. I can't answer any questions right now. Again I am sorry. Good luck to you Alice.
Misty looked up at me. She was about to speak when the front door opened and I head my dad calling me. I head Ann running around in the living room. "Well," said Misty quitely," isn't this interesting."
