Mikey
Gliding around all mornin' with a heavy backpack on was not cool! It did nothin' for my street-cred, and meant I was a sweaty mess by the time I got to the airport. But as soon as I saw Sarah, I swerved in front of her and jumped off my pink hoverboard in style! The dismount was gnarly which totally redeemed me! But as always, I could tell she wasn't impressed and shook her head with crossed arms. "'Morpheus', what took you so long?"
"'Trinity', sorry I'm late," I breathed, "and before you call me a lazy ox, know I haven't even slept! It's just been one of those mornin's!"
"Can you be more specific?" she asked, as I pulled my levitator up from the floor. "I've been waiting here for ages."
"I know, sorry," I said again. "Well, I stopped at iPlaza. Needed to top up my fibre-mesh, and get my Dot implanted again. It's been glitchin' for a while."
Sarah rolled her eyes, but there was no way I was goin' on an international flight without mesh-access to my holo-games! "Anyway," I said, "enough about my Fuji-Apple biotec. I take it that was 'Neo' on the line?" I flicked my ponytail back, looked Sarah dead in the eyes, and waited for an answer. But she hesitated and seemed flustered. Although to be fair, her vibe was part of a recent pattern I'd noticed... When she had time to make excuses, she was fine. But whenever I randomly asked about Chon, I could tell it caught her off guard. Naturally she always kept quiet until the subject was changed. Bless the little pixie. She always grabbed her cropped hair when uneasy. Sarah was like a sister to me, and I knew exactly how much she was into Chon. The same applied to him with her, and as far as I saw it, they were wastin' time - although I couldn't really talk... Nevertheless, I took the opportunity to be frank, considerin' we were gettin' on a plane and could crash to our deaths as an unlucky statistic! "Sarah, you know how Chon feels about you... When you gunna sort it?" Her mouth gaped once I'd spoken and she hit me playfully.
"Michael Chang! I don't know anything, and if Chon wants me, he needs to make the move. I'm not even sure he thinks of me like that. The messages he gives out are confusing. Plus, seriously, Mikey, how can I take advice from someone whose idea of romance is speed dating around Comic-Con?"
We shared laughter as she had a point, but then I lifted my brows and stroked my stubble. "Hey, hey, don't hate the player, hate the game," I said.
"I don't hate," she then responded. "I rate, and I'd rate you if you practiced what you preached!"
I knew what was comin' next...
"When are you going to make a move on Michelle?" she quipped. "After all, here we are again, about to go on another long flight which always has the possibility of plummeting us to our deaths and making us statistics!"
"I'm pickin' my moment," I said awkwardly. "Sarah, timing is everythin'!" She smiled, knowin' I was just as petrified as Chon when it came to, 'making the move'.
"Anyway, enough of all that," she said mercifully. "Chon's going to try and get through security quickly. He's gone ahead hoping to avoid Xen, and I said it was fine, but we need to move, too. Ready?"
Like Marty McFly, I threw my hoverboard back to the floor and hopped on. "Yippe Kay Yay," I exhaled. "I was born ready." I pushed off while Sarah speed-walked, and we entered The Matrix. I also hoped we could get through the green-coded airport without engagin' Agent Smith and his fellow Suits. Keepin' it real, I was no longer a fan of Xen, or his muscle-head entourage.
