[Chapter 1] - Restart

Do you ever have that moment where you wake up and wonder where the hell are you at, when your surroundings doesn't look at all the same to when you went to sleep yesterday night and now you are looking at a place that is drastically different?

Well, that happened to me and now I find myself sitting up in my sleepwear on the pavement of what appears to be... a train station? There was light shining down on me but the rays itself wasn't at all blinding to the point I had to shield my eyes.

No, it felt warm and comfortable, almost tempting me to fall back asleep but not when I find out where exactly am I at because this is sure as hell NOT my room!

...Let's take a moment to recount was my first thought while ignoring my increasingly hammering heart, this isn't my room and my clothes are still the same as I went to bed... did I possibly get kidnapped?

That is a likely answer but the next point that won't add up is the location of where I am at, this train station and the overly radiant and peaceful scenery surrounding me and this place.

Now that I look around again, this entire location doesn't make any sense, what should be the stone pebbles and concrete and earth that the railway sits on is nothing but shimmering blue water that mirrors back the sunlight with crystal clear reflection.

The air itself doesn't smell like the usual train emissions and dust and soot but rather, it has a smell that is quite fragrant and akin to that of a natural lake or spring untouched by man.

Nevermind, that's enough about me describing this place- WHERE THE HELL AM I?!?!

"Yahoo~! Over here~!" A feminine voice suddenly called out to me- wait, a voice? Here in this place?? Is it my kidnapper?!

"Oh no, I'm not really a kidnapper per se, you see I am God." The voice replied back to my thoughts- THEY CAN READ MY MIND?!

"I just said I'm God, what more needed to be said? Now come over here, I'm waving my hand right, can't you see?"

What hand? Where do I go? Because I do not see anything in the distance when I turn left or right or left... wait, there's something hazy over there like a mirage... is that... a girl? With white hair? Why is there a little girl with white hair sitting on the platform? Is she a fellow victim?

"Nope, you're looking at God~!" The girl stated, standing right in front of me- when did she get in front of me?!

I could only stumble back in shock while keeping my shout inside as I warily gazed at the young girl who easily closed in the distance like nothing, is she some ghost or demon?

"Rude! I'm neither a ghost nor a demon! Now let me explain where you are!" The girl pouted, shaking her arms rapidly in a blur... is this an anime or something?

"Then where is this..? Where the hell am I?!" I responded, panic settling in as I tried to make sense of what is going on right now.

Is this a dream? Because I would like to wake up already and it doesn't help at all considering the surreal landscape around me and this... "God", it's almost like I'm in another world...

"Because this is the 'Gap' between the living and afterlife, depending on the situation... it can also be a 'Gap' between the living and damnation." The girl said with a bright smile.

...So not creepy at all especially when she's talking about going to hell...

"Anyway, enough about me! I'm talking about you! I think it's best to put it bluntly but you are dead! Congratulations~!" The "God" announced.

...

...

...

"I'm dead..?" I repeated, blinking my eyes as I comprehended her words.

"Yep, dead as a doornail."

"...Haha, this is a good joke, not a bad stageshow, could do with some better dialogue but I think I'm just about done with you and this place, how do I leave?" I replied.

"Joke..? Sorry to burst your bubble but you are indeed dead~!" The girl answered back and at this point, I was starting to get annoyed before speaking up.

"Listen young miss, I don't know what kind of play are you cooking up but this is taking it a bit too far and ridiculous, light novels are just light novels, don't try and mix it with reality."

"Now listen here-" The girl started but I began walking around, ignoring her while peering out into the scenery or filming set.

"Is this VR? The technology isn't so bad, it replicates the wind and sun quite well, so which company is sponsoring you? I don't think I recall earning something to experience this-"

"Listen closely." Her voice interrupted me as my entire body froze, I couldn't move or do anything at all, even my eyes are frozen- what is going on?!

Next thing I knew, the "God" was in front of me again, grasping my frozen face as she pulled me down to her height with a dead look in her eyes and one that spares no nonsense.

"You are dead, (Y/N) (L/N). The cause of your death was a fault of mine which I've unintentionally extinguished your lifeforce due to a mistaken identity."

...Excuse me? I'm dead? And it's because of her?

This must be a joke, this has to be a joke, no way did I just die before reaching adulthood or at least to a certain age in the far future but again... I can't, no matter how much I deny it, I just know my surroundings is far from reality.

No technology as far as I knew of could so seamlessly replicate the feeling of the breeze, sunlight and the scenery that I am standing on right now yet... if it's true... if she's completely correct...

I'm dead..? I'm dead? Just like that? I went to sleep and died... all because of some mistaken identity? Just like that? Just. Like. That..? What kind of joke is this?

WHAT KIND OF STUPID JOKE IS THIS?!

Whether it was out of shock, anger or hate or all of them combined, my arms that were frozen stiff finally moved again and with all the strength I could muster, I threw a punch at the damn girl who was apparently behind my death.

Just before my fist made contact with her face by an inch, I was once again frozen stiff though the implication of me raising a hand at her didn't seem to faze the "God" so much as she let out a small grin as she made a comment.

"Perfect, you'll just do." She said, voice return to normal though the words itself was still unknown to me, what was she planning to do?

"Don't worry, I'm not thinking about doing anything dangerous... yet, but please calm down for a moment and let me explain." The "God" requested, snapping her fingers.

All movements and momentum returned to my body as I rigidly fell down onto the pavement, letting all thoughts think in now- the location, my state of mind and body and the girl's ability to apparently freeze my own body at her will alone.

Am I going insane..?

"No, you are completely and perfectly sane unless I deem you not but please pay attention especially when this concerns your next steps." The "God" continued.

Suddenly, I felt my own body shift and move about within less than a second and soon I found myself sitting on a chair with a table and the girl across me with the sun shining down on us.

"What... what do you mean..?" I questioned albeit attempting to hide how nervous I am.

Am I going to hell or heaven? Maybe the latter but the number of times I've researched some... "homework" makes me question whether I should go to hell for my degeneracy.

"Nope, you won't go to hell for indulging in your lustful tendencies every now and then, just like how atheist won't go to hell just because they don't believe in me." The girl said.

...Right, I forgot she can read minds like no one's business.

"Though I do question myself sometimes if I SHOULD send certain types of people to hell..." She then added in with the lightest scowl of disgust on her face.

I'm going to assume she's talking about the more underage types of stuff... wait, we're going off topic and it doesn't help when it stemmed from my perverse fantasy.

"Can we please... get back on topic..?" I interjected before the "God" went into a rant.

"Ahem... indeed, now before you start cursing at me- yes, I did indeed accidentally kill you in your sleep." The girl declared.

"...That I know..." Was all I answered back without sounding pissed off as best as I can.

"Which is why, as compensation for your unintentional death, I will be giving you a second chance at life in another world or two or more."

...Excuse me? You mean to tell me she's going to resurrect me? Into another world no less? What kind of messed up cliché story is this? At this point, I'm thinking my life is a joke of fanfiction.

"So is that the compensation? Letting me live a second time? Then let me asked, if I died in my sleep then wouldn't it mean you can just bring me back to life before anyone finds out?" I asked.

"That is technically true but unfortunately, I cannot." The girl responded before I slammed my hand on the table in frustration.

At this point, I don't care if she's "God" or can send me to hell, a subpar answer like that would piss anyone off especially if they were accidentally killed by god! I'm not an exception!

"What do you mean you cannot?!" I loudly demanded, inwardly bracing for any repercussion.

"It's the rule imposed upon the world when it was created, no one can have a second life with the same soul or identity, just like that hoax with a cat." She answered calmly.

"Rules are meant to be broken..." I muttered, still somewhat frustrated though the girl's calm demeanour did placate me- getting angry won't do anything.

"True, but only in some cases, this however is not one that can be broken which is why, going back to my proposal, I will send you to another world." The "God" said.

"...Why do I sense a 'but' coming?" I interjected with a frown as the girl smiled, confirming my speculations as she continued.

"But not only will you live a second life, you'll also be doing a mission set down by me."

"Sorry, I'm not interested in being a Mormon." I interrupted again with a deadpan gaze on my face, no thank you even if you're a god.

"Not that kind of mission! You see, there's more than one 'god' like me so issues between us all will arise at some point." Rebuked the girl heatedly.

"So I'm suppose to tackle that... issue of yours..?" I emphasised the words clearly as the "God" explained some more.

"To cut to the chase, yes. Your task is to simply observe and identify any forms of anomalies within the world made by other world-hoppers or 'Shifters' in this case."

"It can be anything ranging from displaced items that should never have existed in that world's history or another individual that can only be eliminated."

"And you expect me to do this on my own?" I stated, unimpressed by the "compensation".

"I'm getting to that part; I'll be giving you something to help your journey, an edge over everyone else and one that will help build your own strengths." She answered.

"Let me guess, from all the stories I've read already; it's some sort of 'System'?" I retorted, leaning back on the seat, expecting the same cliché.

"Hmm~ I should have made it less obvious but yes, it's a 'System' as you called it." She sighed, snapping her fingers once more as a tiny orb of light penetrated my chest.

"Once you wake up in the new world, it will automatically go into effect. Additionally, I'll also be giving you a free weapon to help you-"

"Wait, hold that thought, I have to fight?" I questioned incredulously.

"Yes? Do you truly expect no resistance in your journey?' The "God" replied with a raised brow at the sheer obviousness of my question.

"I've never physically fought against a person, let alone hold a weapon! How do you expect me to use a weapon like nothing?!" I stated irritably.

"...Right... I forgot humans nowadays rely on firearms or social media to fight." She sighed before placing her hand on my chest and then chanting.

"ƨtɿɒ llɒ ʇo γɿɘtƨɒm ,ʜtϱnɘɿtƨ ʇo nood ɒ ʜtiw dmɒl ϱniɿɘbnɒw ƨiʜt ƨƨɘl𐐒"

...What the hell did she just say? Everything she said sounded garbled and distorted to the point I thought she was just speaking gibberish or nonsense.

"There we go, now you won't have to worry about stabbing yourself in the foot." The "God" said with another confident smile on her face.

"Still doesn't tell me what you did..." I murmured.

"Don't sweat the small stuff, you'll know if you get into a fight!" Was my answer given though it still doesn't explain anything.

"I don't really see myself getting into fights nor picking them..." I said, if this was an actual anime then I would likely be sweat-dropping right now.

"Now, the final stage before I send you off is your looks!" The girl stated, ignoring my words and my growing look of doubt on my face.

"Excuse me?" I said, what's wrong with my looks?

"Not your face, your outfit." Said the "God", pointing at my... oh right, I'm still wearing my sleepwear instead of anything else.

"Now, get in that room and change into whatever outfits you like that is presented in there, until you do so, I won't be sending you off without some good drips on!"

...Hearing a "God" say that is just outright weird but I digress, walking into the room of what would be a security guard's office in a train station, I found myself inside a rather large changing room with various clothing lined up for me perfectly.

Decisions, decisions but then again, what else can I do? Just go along with it.

==============================

"Now THAT'S what I call a drip!" The girl declared, pointing at me with finger guns.

Please stop that, it's really weird for a deity to do something so down-to-earth and stupid, those were my unspoken words as I took a look at myself in my newest outfit that will accompany me in the journey of apparently eliminating any anomalies as "God" said

"Of course, he doesn't have the bow and arrows since it's only his clothing that was made!" I heard her whisper and lean away... to no one in general but the air.

Am I missing some inside joke or something?

"Who are you talking to?" I asked as she returned to a seated position like nothing happened with an indiscernible smile on her face in a blink of my eye.

"No one in particular." She insisted.

"..."

Ignoring her weird... behaviour and brushing aside my (F/C) locks of hair which changed, I also noticed my eyes changing their colours from the original brownish black to an unexpected (E/C).

I'm just going to blame the [System] for that.

"I've noticed every outfits have these... earpieces, what are they?" I inquired, holding onto said device as the girl answered back.

"Those are things keeping you in contact with the [System] that I've bestowed upon, completely invisible to everyone except the users and no one can take it away."

"Huh... that's convenient as hell..." I admitted before lodging the thing into my right ear.

"Now then... I believe I hear your ride coming." Said the "God" as my ears perked up, hearing a distant train horn getting closer.

"So I assume I just board the train to come back to life?" I remarked, seeing the distinct shape of said vehicle coming across the watery landscape.

"It's indeed as you believe! So this is probably our first and last time meeting each other but nonetheless, I apologise again for my rash actions so enjoy your new life!" She said.

"Don't think it's that easy to just get used to a new life..." I commented idly as the train stopped right in front of me, a simple yet pristine locomotive one.

So this is it huh? A life traded for a new one though I can't lie and say I'm not excited for this, sure the idea of searching for other fellow "Shifters" in other worlds sounds tedious but I suppose it's the idea of looking for clues in different worlds that's what makes it fun.

Fun? Perhaps. Dangerous? Most definitely and I would be a laughingstock not to "God" or anyone else watching but to myself, dying immediately after living again won't look so good on my resume and I aim to keep it that way.

At the same time, I won't lie and say I'm not nervous as well especially with the idea of fighting other people with weapons- speaking of which, where's my weapon?

"Right! Here you go! Almost forgot about it, sorry~!" The girl apologised, throwing a large violet case with straps attached to.

I received it with open arms... only to collapse onto the ground from the sheer weight of... it..! How much does this piece of junk weigh?! It's more than several tens of kilograms!

"T-this... is my weapon..?!" I grunted out, exerting myself as I finally lifted the thing up before forcing it onto the train.

"Yep! Don't worry about the weight, you'll get used to it soon... as long as you put in some hard work~!" The "God" replied with an infuriating smile.

"Listen here, you little shi-!" I was about to rant but the door of the train closed up in front of my face before I could get a single word out and then I felt it move.

"Happy travels~!" The girl waved me goodbye as I moved out from the platform and into the waters outside with sunlight shining ever so brightly down on me.

"...Well, it is what it is..." I groaned before sitting on a seat.

Let's see where this journey takes me.

==============================

So as you all know, assuming you've read the announcement, this is a complete reboot of [The Solo Gamer], this time without the hopefully cringey lines and plotholes that I've made in the original. Furthermore, I'll try and keep the scaling of the Gamer system as concise as possible since that was the biggest problem I had in the old book so here we go again, I'll be respecting my old commenters' wishes and keeping the same order of world to go to therefore; RWBY - FGO - Genshin etc. Hopefully I can do this one right.
