Bonus Ending
"Are we there?" Ignis asked.
Gladio grinned, looking over the house in front of them. "Yep. I don't think anyone else would have a chocobo welcome mat. And I see Eclipse right over there."
Many months had passed since the light returned to the world. People everywhere were beginning to thrive once more. Outposts were being repaired and the Crown City was steadily being rebuilt from the ground up. Lorelai and Prompto now had their own home in the outskirts of Insomnia. It was a more rural area that allowed Eclipse to have her own pen. Lorelai's chocobo had two little ones to take care of now too, both a black chick and a yellow chick. It was certainly an ideal place to raise a few chocobos. And it was the first time Gladio and Ignis had come by the new home. They approached the front door, the tattooed man giving it a few knocks.
After a moment, it opened, revealing Lorelai's smiling face. "Gladio, Ignis, it's nice to see you guys!"
"It's been a while," Gladio said, accepting the welcoming hug the girl wrapped him in. As soon as she pulled back, his eyes landed on her swollen stomach. "Whoa, you sure are showing."
She then caught Ignis in a quick hug as well. Though he couldn't see her, he could easily feel her enlarged abdomen. "My, my, it surely won't be long now."
Lorelai giggled at them. "Yeah, the baby will be here soon. But let's not stand outside, come on in." They followed her inside where Gladio had to keep Ignis from bumping into anything since it was a place he'd never been. "Prompto! Gladio and Ignis are here!"
"Coming!" his voice called back.
Prompto suddenly came rushing down the stairs, his eyes landing on the two men. "Long time no see!" he greeted with a grin. "So, you finally decided to visit, huh?"
Gladio scratched the back of his neck. "Yeah, well, we've been busy. But after Iris mentioned you guys, we decided to swing by for a bit."
The group all sat down in the living room. Prompto, Lorelai, and Ignis all sat on the couch while Gladio got a chair all to himself. "Speaking of Iris," Lorelai began, "she, Talcott, and Cor visited a couple of weeks ago. Said they wanted to see how I was."
"Well, how has domestic life been treating you?" Ignis asked.
"Pretty good," the girl answered. "Though that's because I've got Prompto catering to my every need."
"It's been exhausting!" he complained. "But I'd do anything for Lora."
"I'm sorry, sweetheart," she apologized. "I know I've been a bit needy lately."
He shook his head and smiled. "Hey, no prob. I totally get it. The baby's depending on you, so it's only right that you can depend on me." He placed a hand over her stomach, feeling movement. "I think I felt another kick."
Lorelai smiled. "The baby's been energetic lately."
"Another sign that the delivery will come soon," Ignis said.
"So, figured out any names yet?" Gladio questioned.
The couple glanced at each other and Prompto replied, "We've thought of a few, but nothing definite."
"Hey, anyone else hungry?" Lorelai suddenly asked.
Prompto only sighed, expecting another errand for him to run. "What would you like?"
"Some of last night's chili would be great, thank you."
The blond got up from his seat and went to the kitchen, soon coming back with a hot bowl of chili. He handed it to her and sat back down. She immediately dug in.
Ignis chuckled. "I suppose those cravings are a bit difficult to handle."
Prompto groaned. "Tell me about it. The other day I had to run all the way across the city for some cheese chips. She just insisted that she had to have 'em."
Gladio laughed. "I only wish I could've seen that!"
"It's not my fault!" Lorelai defended. "I can't help what my tastebuds want!"
"It's all a part of the hormonal changes that comes with pregnancy, I'm afraid," Ignis explained.
Prompto leaned over, planting a kiss to Lorelai's head while lightly rubbing her stomach. "It's alright though. I'll do whatever you ask of me, 'cause that's how much I love you."
"Aww," she cooed. "Love you too, Prompto."
The four friends spent a while just talking and catching up. Gladiolus and Ignis were even kind enough to help Prompto with a few things around the house. Everything was going fine until later that evening. Lorelai was in the kitchen washing a few dishes when a sudden sharp pain struck her. She winced and placed a hand on her stomach.
"Prompto!" she yelled. "Guys!" The three came rushing in. "I think the baby's coming!"
Prompto's eyes went wide and he hurried to her aid. "Are you serious?!"
"Do I look like I'm kidding?!" she snapped with a pained expression.
"Quickly!" Ignis shouted. "We must make haste to a doctor!"
Prompto took his wife by the hand and wrapped an arm around her, helping her out and to the car. With the other two getting in back, Prompto helped Lorelai into the passenger seat before getting behind the wheel. In an instant, he was speeding down the road.
~~~~~
Prompto sat between Ignis and Gladio, staring at the door to the delivery room. He nervously tapped his foot against the floor. He could barely contain his anxiety.
"Prompto, please calm down," Ignis said, getting slightly annoyed by the rapid foot-tapping of the blond.
He sighed and stood. "Sorry, I can't help it. I'm just kinda worried. What if something goes wrong?"
"You can't think like that," Gladio told him. "Your kid's gonna be born. You're supposed to be happy, not afraid."
"I am!" he argued. "It's a weird mixture of joy and fear, okay?!"
The door suddenly opened and a woman doctor came out. "Mr. Argentum, you may go in."
Prompto hurried into the room, the woman closing the door behind him. His eyes grew wide and he stared in astonishment. Lorelai was lying in bed, cradling a newborn in her arms. He slowly approached her bedside, his gaze glued to the small form bundled in blankets. Lorelai glanced up at him with a tired smile.
"It's a girl, Prompto. We've got a daughter."
The blond's lips slowly turned up in a joyous smile. "She's beautiful!" He took a seat on the edge of the bed, his eyes finally landing on his wife. "And you? You okay?"
She slowly nodded. "I'm alright, thanks."
He leaned down and pecked her lips, his eyes immediately going back to the tiny form in her arms. "Can I... hold her?"
She smiled, carefully handing the baby to him. Cradling the child in his arms, he got a better look at her. She had a small bit of blond hair on her head. He grinned at her.
"Aww, hi there," he said in the softest voice he could. "Aren't you just the cutest?"
Lorelai smiled, reaching over and rubbing the baby's cheek with her finger. "Prompto, can we name her Ailey, after my mother?"
His blue eyes showed approval. "Ailey Argentum - I like it. Ailey it is."
There were a couple of light knocks on the door. Gladio's head poked in. "Is it alright to come in?"
"Yeah," Lorelai answered.
Leading Ignis inside, the two walked over. Gladio gazed softly at the baby while Ignis could only hear her soft coos. Prompto passed the child back to her mother.
"Look, Ailey," she softly spoke. "Say hi to Uncle Gladio and Uncle Ignis."
"She's a real cutie," the muscular man said with a smile. "Looks just like you, Lora."
"But with blond hair, like me," Prompto added with pride.
"Ailey?" Ignis questioned. "Wasn't that your mother's name?"
"Yes," Lorelai answered. "And I think it suits her."
"Me too," Gladio agreed.
After a couple of days, Lorelai was able to leave with Ailey. Gladio and Ignis parted ways for now, leaving the happy couple to settle in with their new baby. Entering their house and flipping on the lights, Lorelai looked down at the baby in her arms.
"We're home, Ailey." She leaned down, planting a soft kiss to the child's head.
Prompto wrapped an arm around Lorelai's waist and pecked the baby's head as well. "You're gonna love your room, Ailey! We've got you a nice crib and a lotta toys!"
The next couple of days were spent tending to the new baby. One evening, while Lorelai fixed supper, Prompto played with his new daughter, playing peek-a-boo and making funny faces that caused her to giggle. And once everyone had eaten and bathed, it was time to turn in for the night. Prompto left the bathroom and went down the hall. He paused in the doorway to Ailey's room where Lorelai stood, rocking the baby in her arms and singing softly.
"Come take my hand, let me hold you near
This is not the end, there's still tomorrow here
If you lose your fight, don't you be afraid
Reach for the light, it will keep you safe"
Prompto smiled to himself and quietly walked in. He lovingly watched his wife placing the sleeping baby into her crib. He then went over, hugging her from behind and resting his chin on her shoulder.
"She seems quite at home," he whispered so he wouldn't wake Ailey.
Lorelai nodded and took one of his hands, leading him out of the room. They walked down the hall and to their own room. Prompto immediately sat Lorelai down on the bed with him and kissed her deeply. When he pulled back, he was smiling.
"Now that Ailey's asleep, we can spend some quality time together before bed."
The two got situated with Lorelai sitting in front of Prompto. His arms wrapped securely around her waist and she placed her hands over his. With her pajama shirt showing a lot of her back, Prompto peppered her tattooed skin with kisses. Lorelai found her eyes wandering over to the bedside table where her bracelet, her locket, and her dragon carving sat. A slight frown tugged at her lips.
"I only wish my mother, Purnima... and Noct were here to see Ailey."
Prompto froze, the mention of his best friend bringing back painful memories. He quickly pushed those negative feelings back. He didn't want anything to ruin the happy moments he shared with the ones he loved. He smiled, leaning his head around to meet the blue-flecked green eyes of Lorelai.
"Don't worry about it, babe. I'm sure they're all watching over us, even as we speak."
She smiled and twisted around in his arms to face him. "Yeah. No use moping - they wouldn't want that."
The blond let out a yawn and laid her down with him. "You know one of the things I love most?" Lorelai hummed in reply. "That I get to fall asleep every night with you in my arms and wake up each morning to your beautiful face. I love you so much, Lorelai."
The girl smiled lovingly and kissed his lips. "I love you too, Prompto, and I always will."
The couple quickly dozed off, entangled in each other's arms. The birth of their daughter brought a whole new adventure for Lorelai and Prompto. And Ailey would be able to grow up happily in a world free of daemons and darkness, thanks to all the sacrifices that were made, not only for her, but for all of Eos. One day, she'd be told numerous stories of the five friends' adventures and the King of Light's ordeal that saved the very world around them. That was something her parents would never forget.
