Chapter Eleven

Killer (Kaname)- Age 20

Lyla- Age 18

"Kaname!" Lyla's excited squeal caused him to chuckle as she zoomed around the Sabaody Amusement Park hyper as ever. "Look at that!" She pointed over to one of the rides, "Oh! And over there!" She pointed to a cotton candy stand. "OH!!! Look at those!" She hopped up and down as she pointed to a group of costumed bears handing out flowers.

Kaname smiled as he watched the exuberant girl flit about excitedly before reaching out and grabbing her by the hand keeping her at his side, "We have plenty of time to see everything, try not to wear yourself out." He chuckled.

Lyla blushed as she interlaced her fingers with his. Her bright golden eyes lit up as she took in all the new sights. They walked hand in hand through the crowded amusement park. Kaname tensed as he felt a strange sensation. The hair on the back of his neck stood on end, they were being watched. He casually glanced around trying to figure out who was watching them and frowned slightly as he noticed a small group of marines tucked behind a funhouse watching them carefully. Why were they watching them?

"If we ride the Ferris Wheel, you'll be able to see the whole amusement park." Kaname suggested trying not to alert her to their spies.

"That's a great idea, senpai!" Lyla beamed as she skipped off in the direction of the Ferris Wheel pulling him along behind her.

Kaname noticed the small gaggle of marines move from their spot. They followed them from a distance. He struggled to keep himself composed in an effort not to worry Lyla as anger burned through him. Why were they being followed?

"What's wrong?" Lyla asked him curiously as they reached the queue for the Ferris Wheel noticing his sudden tension.

"What? Nothing." Kaname attempted a reassuring smile.

Lyla's body suddenly tensed and Kaname noticed the marines that had been following them from a distance out of the corner of his eye. She'd noticed them too. "Oh..."

"Sorry, I didn't want to worry you." Kaname frowned.

"Why are they here?" Lyla asked nervously. There was fear in her eyes as she watched the marines draw nearer.

Kaname reached for the curved blades at his side. They weren't trying to stay hidden any longer. They got behind them in the queue. He placed himself between Lyla and the marines and threw them a glare. "What the hell do you want?"

"That's no way to talk to your superiors, boy." One of the men growled at him.

Kaname glared at them as he felt Lyla tremble behind him and cling to the back of his shirt. "I don't give a damn. What do you want?" He snapped.

"K-kaname." Lyla whimpered as she realized even more of them had appeared behind her, they were surrounded.

"Is your name Lyla?" The man in front of Kaname asked the petite blonde.

"Don't talk to her." Kaname growled

The man rolled his eyes at this, "I'll take that as a yes. We're here to persuade you to change the subject matter for your dissertation."

"W-what?" Lyla squeaked in terror.

"Agree to change the subject matter for your dissertation." The man repeated.

"Why?" Lyla asked warily.

"Not the right answer." He snapped his fingers and Lyla let out a yelp as the marines behind her suddenly grabbed hold of her and wrenched her backward away from Kaname.

Lyla let out a panicked scream and attempted to fight off her captors.

"LYLA!" Kaname screamed and unsheathed his blades before launching himself at the surrounding marines, "LET HER GO!"

Something hard and heavy hit him over the back of the head with enough force stars exploded behind his eyelids and he instantly dropped to the ground. There was a high-pitched ringing in his ears and his vision darkened. He struggled to stay conscious as he heard Lyla scream. Kaname attempted to sway to his feet unable to see or hear anything. He lumbered in the direction the marines had pulled Lyla swinging blindly.

He tripped over something soft and squishy on the ground and fell face first into a puddle of something warm and wet. It took a moment for him to orient himself and his vision and hearing to return. He blinked a few times and turned to see what he'd tripped over. His heart plummeted into the pit of his stomach as his gaze fell on Lyla's motionless form. There was a small cut across her cheek and a much deeper one on her upper arm spilling her blood causing it to pool around her.

"Lyla!" He panicked and hurriedly scanned her over for any further injury. It seemed she'd fainted from loss of blood. Kaname cradled her motionless form against him and hurriedly scanned the area for the marines that had jumped them. Rage, hot broiling unfettered rage, coursed through his veins. "They'll pay for this." He hissed as he carried the unconscious girl out of the public eye.

Once he found a safe place for Lyla to rest he shrugged out of his jacket and draped it over her before gripping his blades tightly. Blinded by rage, he utilized every skill he'd learned through his grueling marine training and his natural primal instincts to track down the marines that had attacked them.

It didn't take long to find the ring leader and his gaggle of followers enjoying some fried food at a single picnic table. Kaname dropped down from the rooftop of one of the food stalls landing atop their table with his blades at the ready. He spun expertly slitting all of their throats in one fluid motion before disappearing into the crowd completely unnoticed. It had happened so fast not a single amusement park goer had seen what had happened. Kaname smirked to himself as he heard screams in the distance as the bodies were discovered.

He made it back to the place where he'd left Lyla just as she began to stir awake. Her bright golden eyes were wild and filled with terror as she came to. She relaxed once she spotted him before diving into his arms with a choked sob.

"Kaname! You're okay!"

Kaname cradled the petite blonde, holding her tightly against him, "I'm fine, but you're losing a lot of blood we should get you cleaned up." He got to his feet and carried her away from the amusement park. "I need to get stronger." His voice turned somber and full of self-loathing.

Lyla entwined her arms around his neck, "I hope you won't be mad at me...after this...I absolutely cannot stop my research, what are they so afraid of me finding out?"

Kaname nodded, "What can I do to help?"

"What?" Lyla's eyes brimmed with tears. "You'll get hurt if you help me."

Kaname shrugged, "Fine, then I'll just kill anyone who gets in your way."

Lyla gasped as her heart skipped a beat at his cryptic declaration. Kill? Her cheeks reddened. He'd kill, for her? As twisted and macabre as it was that he'd willingly kill for her, she couldn't help but feel touched. "I love you, Kaname."
