Chapter 1

My name is Alexis Nelson; age sixteen; date of birth, fifteenth, Apr., zero-four (military time). I am transgender, six feet tall, and a hybrid of a fox and wolf, mostly fox. My current situation is taking a C-fifteen Globe-Master, a mass aircraft used for carrying cargo to far distances, to Japan. There are other cadets and leaders here, as well, but we are not like "others."

I am one of the "unfortunate" cadets, along with every other cadet in this plane. Our government noticed the drop of adoption in America, more and more children are being cast out, abused, used, killed, even. So, they decide to take sixty kids, including me, into one group, out of the millions of kids around America. They set up a program called Combat Military Students (CMS); a system where the young, most knowledgeable, most fit, and the strongest are gathered, and place in a specific area for training. There are also other programs, more for intelligence, lower class, and average students; cooking, sewing, drawing, technology, science, etc. Said to be sixty in this plane, each group has twenty members, and one is Air Force, one is Army, and the last is Navy. Alpha is Air Force, Bravo is Army, and Charlie is Navy - me, being Air Force.

The government decided that we should be out of the country, to make sure we are not as noticed by Americans. Mainly because this program is the first, which means we are the first to do it. Whether it succeeds or not, they do not want us to be known until a goal of four years.

So, Charlie will be heading to Canada, Bravo to Russia, and Alpha to Japan.

I am currently sitting in a fold-in seat, my leg over my other, my jacket hanging on my shoulders while reading a book, as I continue to relocate the tasty l ollipop, side to side of my cheeks. I continue to read the same book, I have been reading for the past day; my eyes, skipping on each word. My mind cleared of everything else, as it wonders over the imagination of the book. Sadly, it ended, as I finish the last page, but I process the book I have read.

I deeply sigh, as I place the second, dictionary size, novel in my bag. I slouch over, putting my weight onto my elbows, which are on my knees. I look up and skim over the area, like the words in the book. I turn my head slowly to view most of the movements occurring. For no reason, but more to pass the time.

Yesterday, the Navy had gotten off in Canada, so there are forty people left.

No doubt have I ever felt better to have people around, but feel so uneasy to talk to anyone. My past is no better than anyone here, moreover, the worse, they have heard.

I was never able to leave that house without help.

Lost in my thoughts, I did not realize someone was calling me. As their voice reaches my brain, I look up to see another girl; straight short, brown hair, glasses, orange eyes, about five point five feet, light skin, and is a bunny hybrid.

"Oh! H-Hi!" the girl says in a high pitch voice. I stare at her before leaning back, to calm my nerves that I will be speaking with someone.

"Sup?" I ask, using my usual slang. I lean back, crossing my arms, and then placing my leg back on the other.

"Ummm...," she says, humming afterward. She stares at me nervously when I take this opportunity to glance at the people behind her, thinking this was suspicious. ...Guess not.

"Well," I say as she jumps," What's your name?"

"Z-Zoey, Zoey Blois," she says, raising her hand nervously. I take it and lightly shake it, seeing her timid character.

"Alexis," I say, before leaning back in my seat, placing my elbows on the side," Or Alex, I don't care."

"Oh," Zoey says, amazed.

"Come, sit down," I said, patting the seat next to me. Zoey stands surprised before nervously sitting down.

"So, Zoe, can I call you that?" I ask.

"Oh, yeah, that is fine," she says, smiling, apprehensively.

"Well, then...what flight are you?" I ask.

"Alpha," she says, placing both of her hands in her lap.

"Same," I say, getting more comfortable with talking; the stress became bearable, at least.

"Oh!" she says, excited.

"Yeah," I say," Color?"

"White!" she says, sounding a lot better as well.

"Mine is any," I say, not really sure if all of the colors are my favorite." Nonetheless, she smiles.

We then continued talking back and forth. We got even comfortable to talk about our past, trusting in each other more. Though I didn't tell Zoe my darkest history, neither did she, we talked about our good times. She used to live on a farm, loving animals and nature, to which I admired; this may explain why she is shy, saying that no other place was around then the nearest store (thirty minutes away).

Another while later, my bottom hurting from sitting down so long, we made it to Russia, where Bravo left for their training, heading towards their base. Alpha got this chance to have a couple of hours to walk around and basically move around. We are allowed to visit the area which had food and other shops there.

I, Zoey, and other cadets went walking around. I could not say I did not enjoy my time, even if I just had a simple lunch and look out of the base. Being somewhere so open, and free, well made me whole.

Then we boarded, heading to Japan, which we made a lot faster since it is closer than Canada.

I wake up to a wind-breaking sound of the plane landing. Right on time, the lights turn on, waking up others. The speakers, of our commander, make a click with the phone.

"Alright, Cadets! We are here," he booms. I hear Zoey yawn, looking at me, confused. She fell asleep on my shoulder, seeing that there is not much to lie on, but I was alright with it.

"We are here," I say as her eyes burst with stars, immediately. She sat up straight and looks around, excited. I chuckle at her behavior.

"You're excited," I say, seeing her fidget in her seat, and her eyes bright as stars.

"Well, I always wanted to go to Japan! Not like this, but it still a dream come true!" Zoey says, really excited.

"Is that so?" I say as she nods eagerly. She starts to grab the bags she had and hold onto them tightly, clutching them to her chest. I smile and place my duffle bag next to my feet, ready for departure.

After landing, we got our things together, and we form up at the Japanese base. We went to an assembly, understood instructions, orders, and a few rules - simple, really. Though, the part that got me slightly worried is school. Sure, I have heard about it, but never been to one - let alone, one out of the country.

Now, other kids do not frighten me. Yes, I hate interactions, but it does not mean I can not get along with others. Even so, I just hate telling them about me.

I am a lone wolf - literally.

After our briefing, we are sent to our apartments: a whole building, with an upstairs and downstairs. I am in the first one, upstairs, so I carried my bags up the stairs. I notice others doing the same as I place the keys in and unlock the door, entering. Inside, I flick the light switch, liting the room, realizing how dark it got outside. The neat room has a small table, a dense blanket draping on the sides of it, places in the middle. In the back, there is a small bed, with a window next to it. There is a door leading to the bathroom. On the left, there is a small kitchen, as well as a closet, on the right.

I stare at the room to smile, feeling the freedom of having my own place. A beautiful clean area; the air feels so light and smells like flowers; no longer have to clean much; I can even cook for myself; my independence.

I start to settle in, placing my things in the closet, then changing into shorts and a tank-top. I grab my phone and charger, placing them by the small table next to the bed. I put the charger in the outlet, and charge my phone, setting it aside.

I walk to the small kitchen, going straight to the fridge. Inside there is a small container of milk, a small casing of fish, butter, a few vegetables, and a few fruits. A little card sat in the middle, so I grab the grab opening it. It said, " Enough for a small meal, breakfast, lunch, dinner the following day. The money will be issued the next day. Thank you for your cooperation!" I nod to myself and place the card on the side. I then look at the freezer, seeing one piece of meat, and two small popsicles.

I then leave the fridge and check the two cabinets. One had two cups of noodles, a couple of spices, and a knife set; the other one had a can of corn, a bag of rice, and a can of spam. The top shelf had two cups and two plates. I check the ones on the bottom, to see a small bottle of soup, a couple of kitchen towels, a pan and pot. There is also one, near my waist, that just had utensils.

I then decide just to eat a cup of noodles, so I grab the pot. I go by the sink and put water in. I then turn the stove on and heat it up, reading the Japanese instructions on the cup.

I pour the warm water in, closing the plastic top with the chopsticks, as I make myself a cup of water. I then take both and place it on the small table. I silently eat my noodles, along with drinking water.

After I finish, I throw away the cup and place the glass cup in the sink.

I head over to my bed and undo the sheets. I pull it over me, looking out the window. The apartment is on a hill, so I see a lot of the town; bright dots from all of the lights brighten up the night.

After a while, I start to fall asleep, turning over to rest.
