Three
The very next day Alyarra was invited to tea with the Queen Alicent and the Princess Helaena.
Alyarra's lady-in-waiting, Catherryn, helped her get ready with a stunning green and gold dress. A dress that was truly fitting for a lady or a princess. Alyarra sat on her desk as Catherryn helped concoct a hairstyle on the girl's auburn locks of hair. Alyarra had asked for a braided hairstyle as that was Targaryen custom.
When Alyarra finished getting ready, she made her way down to the Queen's apartments, escorted by a guard. And as the doors opened, Alyarra's eyes traveled through the apartments, spotting Helaena and Alicent sitting together by a round table. They appeared to be waiting for the lady.
"Lady Alyarra, how gracious of you to join us on this fine day." The Queen Alicent stated as Alyarra curtsied and gave the queen a small smile.
"Thank you for the invite, your grace. You are kind to me." Alyarra responded sweetly as the queen smiled.
From what Alyarra could gather from the little time spent with the Queen, she was a kind woman but a stern one. Her icy eyes could make anyone terrified.
Alyarra moved to sit next to Helaena and across from the Queen. Helaena gave the girl a small nod and kept on fidgeting with the skin around her nails. Alyarra looked at the young princess but she did not look up at her, her eyes fixed on her lap.
"I had the cooks bake the very best desserts and the most savory tea for us. I am sure you will adore it." The Queen said as Alyarra smiled and looked at all the baked goods in front of her. They looked delicious.
The trio sat in silence for a brief moment as they each grabbed a pastry from the table and the tea was served by the maids of the Queen.
"So how have you been enjoying your time at the Capital?" Alicent asked Alyarra as she looked up from her tea and gave the queen a small smile.
"It has been a great time. A very welcome one." Alyarra stated and she meant it, for the most part.
It seemed that everyone except the man that was supposed to be courting her was excited for her to be at King's Landing.
Every Lord and Lady at court would rush to speak to the Lady Stark. Everyone wanted a piece of attention from the sister of Cregan Stark. They wanted to know about the North and where they stood in the bubbling conflict.
Except Aemond who acted like he could not care less.
Alyarra had decided to give him time, as she had just gotten to the capital. And truly she never really expected a marriage to form between the two, she was sure that after the courting ended she would be sent back to Winterfell.
"You know my father, the hand, and I are truly elated to form an allegiance between ourselves and the North. We are truly excited that you are here as I am sure that solidifies your brother's support of my house." Alicent suddenly stated as Alyarra stayed quiet.
The Queen was talking as if a marriage between Aemond and Alyarra was a set deal.
Alyarra shifted her gaze from the queen and down at her plate. She needed to thread lightly as any wrong answer could surely put her and her House on an uncomfortable situation. She knew that Cregan did not like to be forced into anything, much less alliances.
"My brother is excited for me to be able to experience a court as grand as this one. I am sure he will make a great decision and will be elated with any outcome." Alyarra answered as Alicent eyed her.
"The wolf is hungry, it'll come out of the woods soon." Helaena suddenly stated quietly as Alyarra's eyes widened and she looked at the Queen.
"Don't mind her. Go on... finish your tea." The queen encouraged as the lady nodded and sipped on her tea.
"You should join me today in sewing, Lady Alyarra. Later in the day." Helaena suggested quietly as the lady nodded and gave the princess a sweet smile.
"I would very much enjoy that my princess." Alyarra answered as Helaena nodded softly.
After tea with the Queen and Princess; Alyarra felt rather bored as she didn't have a Septa assigned and her lady-in-waiting Catherryn was socializing with a knight she had met the day before. And Helaena had asked her to sew but it was later on.
Alyarra decided to explore the Red Keep as it was her second day in the castle. She walked along the huge halls of the castle, taking in the green banners and all of the paintings that were hung about the walls. Clearly the Queen Alicent made it a point to drape the Red Keep in green, the color of her house.
Alyarra knew of Princess Rhaenyra and she knew that she was the assigned heir by the King Viserys, but she also knew that Prince Aegon had a lot of supporters from Great Houses that believed he should be the heir as he was a man.
Alyarra didn't have an opinion as the North mantained itself away from any conflict brewing in the Capital and Cregan had never mentioned of a side he was more inclined to take. But she knew that if she were to marry Aemond, then she would guess her brother would lean to the Greens.
As Alyarra walked down a hall, she heard her name called from behind her.
"Lady Alyarra of House Stark, how do you do?" She turned to find the Prince Aegon walking towards her, with a guard in tow. A rather playful expression sat on his face.
"My Prince. I fare rather well, how about yourself?" The lady asked as she curtsied. The boy smiled mischievously as he waved her off.
"You don't have to follow those bullshit protocols with me. I do not find myself caring." He told the girl as her mouth curved up into a small smile.
"Where were you heading?" Aegon asked the girl as she shrugged her shoulders. "I do not know, I find myself exploring the castle as I am rather bored." Alyarra answered as Aegon smirked.
"Well I was just about to head down to the dragon pit to see Sunfyre, you want to come? You said you had never seen a dragon before." Aegon offered as Alyarra smiled widely. Without even thinking she nodded her head yes.
"That would be quite exciting, indeed." Alyarra pointed out as the pair walked together down to the dragonpit.
As they entered the pit, Alyarra gaped at the size of it. It could easily fit thousands of people if not more. She looked around stunned as men and women alike walked in unison towards the pair.
An elderly man talked in a tongue that was foreign to the lady but the woman next to him translated easily. "It has been long since you have come to see Sunfyre." The woman said as Aegon scoffed.
"I can do as I please with my time. Fetch me my dragon. The Lady Stark wants to meet him." Aegon ordered as the woman translated to the elderly man. He nodded as the keepers turned and went deep down a huge staircase and into a cave.
"This place is enormous." The Lady huffed as Aegon chuckled. "It is rather big." He stated as suddenly growls and snarls were heard coming up the stairs.
Alyarra's eyes widened as a beautiful golden scaled dragon came into view. Her mouth fell open as her eyes took in the beast before her. She had never seen a living thing so massive.
"Lady Alyarra, I present to you Sunfyre The Golden." Aegon said proudly as he walked towards the dragon that was growling and struggling as the six keepers tried to hold it still.
"Lykiri." Aegon said easily as the dragon stayed almost frozen in time as his rider approached him and carressed his scales. Alyarra watched in amazement as Aegon turned to look at her.
"Do come. He won't eat you, unless I order him to." Aegon jested as Alyarra chuckled and walked slowly towards the huge beast and Aegon. As she stood next to the prince, he grabbed her hand and brought it to the dragon's scales.
"Sunfyre adores attention. You show him just a bit and he will be very happy." Aegon stated as Alyarra nodded slowly. "He is breathtaking." The girl stated as she caressed the beast's scales.
"Better than a direwolf, huh?" Aegon boasted as Alyarra laughed at the prince's comment. "I'll have you know, my prince, we have few direwolfs in Winterfell but they are just as majestic as dragons." Alyarra said confidently as Aegon threw her a smile.
"Lady Alyarra, may I ask what you are doing here with my brother?" A voice echoed through the pit as both Alyarra and Aegon turned to find Aemond staring at them from a short distance. Alyarra quickly dropped her hand away from the dragon and brought them in front of herself.
"I expect an answer." Aemond hummed as Alyarra opened her mouth to speak but Aegon had already began answering.
"Your lady seemed rather bored as she walked about the castle. I took it upon myself to entertain her brother, you should thank me." Aegon stated cockily as Aemond's eyes moved between the pair.
"You seem awfully concerned with the entertainment of the Lady Stark. Maybe you should go ahead and entertain your own wife, brother." Aemond spat at his brother who simply chuckled, clearly not fazed.
Alyarra was ashamed. She knew she hadn't done anything wrong but Aemond clearly did not like the scene he had walked into.
"I can be concerned with whatever and whoever I like. But that doesn't matter. You, fetch a harness. I'm taking Sunfyre on a ride." Aegon ordered a keeper as they complied and went to fetch a harness.
Aemond glared at his brother as Aegon smirked and turned around. "I will certainly see you around, my lady." Aegon told the lady as he walked towards the keepers, giving them orders to prepare Sunfyre for flight.
Alyarra walked to Aemond with her head a bit down. "You shan't be here, Lady Alyarra. Dragons are dangerous creatures. Do not let my brother put your own life in danger." Aemond stated sternly as Alyarra nodded slowly.
"I am sorry, my prince. I was just a bit bored and I've always been intrigued about dragons." Alyarra answered as Aemond eyed her and gave her a small nod.
"I was told you should be sewing with my sister, I shall escort you to her chambers." Aemond said as Alyarra nodded her head, a disappointed look covering her face.
"You seem disappointed. Do you not wish to sew with Helaena?" Aemond asked Alyarra as she shook her head at his statement.
"No I do. Of course I do. I just wish I could also do some more adventurous activities." The lady answered as Aemond looked her up and down, an action that sent shivers down her spine.
"Adventure is not a place for a lady." Aemond stated as Alyarra nodded her head slowly. "You are right, my prince." The girl muttered as Aemond eyed her face.
Aemond didn't quite understand the girl. She seemed like a perfect and formidable maiden. She seemed proper but somehow she had found herself in the dragon pit with Aemond's stupid brother. And she found herself looking for adventure. Not very lady like.
"I suppose you can accompany me to my arms trainings. You can spectate from the balcony if that would interest you." Aemond said quickly as Alyarra smiled and nodded.
"That would indeed interest me." She stated as Aemond nodded sternly and put out his arm to escort the lady.
As the pair reached the training yard, Aemond escorted the Lady Alyarra to a seat in the balcony that was full of men from court. Alyarra sat, feeling excited to see Aemond train as this was an activity she would do constantly back in Winterfell. She always really enjoyed watching Cregan train arms.
As Aemond started sparring with a knight she recognized as the queen's protector, the girl found herself impressed with the prince's skill. Aemond handled his dagger easily and he dodged the knight's attacks swiftly. Alyarra thought he was truly skilled, almost as good as Cregan.
"Lady Alyarra Stark, I have been waiting to introduce myself to you." Alyarra looked up to find an older man staring down at the girl. He wore all green and Alyarra noticed a particular pin on his clothes.
"Ser Otto Hightower, Hand of the King." The man proceeded to state as Alyarra nodded her head acknowledging him.
She had heard of him from her brother. Ser Otto Hightower was King Viserys' hand and the father to the Queen Alicent. An ambitious man she had heard.
"It is enchanting to meet you, my lord." Alyarra said as the man gave the girl a small smile.
"Enchanting indeed. Your visit to the Capital solidified an alliance between your house and mine. And for your support we are most grateful." Otto said shamelessly as Alyarra looked back at the dueling prince.
"I am excited to get to know the capital." The girl answered simply as the man stared her down.
"Well If you were to become Aemond's princess, then I would be most joyous." Otto stated as Alyarra nodded her head slowly and hummed. Aemond's princess. She hadn't ever thought about what would it mean for her if she were to marry the prince.
Alyarra Stark would become a princess. If the two were to fall in love that is.
