Chapter Twenty Six

Sir Seto stood at the edge of his tent, as he looked upon the laughing friends as they sat around the crackling fire.

He sighed.

Seto had never fitted in anywhere. Being raised by a witch, he was never very good around others. He was shy, and awkward. He didn't know really how to talk to others. It was just the way he was.

Sometimes it was a relief to him of his ways. He could spend more time on his studies of potions and such. Having no time to bother with such nonsense.

But sometimes, he would dream of just being able to have a conversation with someone, having the ability to be himself.

He looked at the fire one more time, then turned his head to climb back down the ladder.

But then he jumped in surprise, and turned his head. The group had burst into laughter, and it had startled him.

"Just ONE conversation..." He slowly climbed down the ladder, deep in thought.

Sure, he had had many conversations with the General, Majors, and Lutenets. But they were older then him. Not by very much, but enough that he could never really fit in. All they discussed was battle plans and tactics.

He had sometimes watched the Lutenets and Majors sitting with the General after a long days work. They would tell stories and laugh and be merry with each other.

They were friends, after all.

Sky had only chosen Seto for his talent. Everyone else he knew them before he was selected as the General of the good.

He climbed into bed. He didn't want to think about it anymore. The best thing to do was sleep on it.

When he pulled the covers over him, he felt a sharp pain, and jumped from where he lay.

A broken bottle rested where his back had been.

"Cursed cat." He mumbled. He would take care of the broken glass in the morning. For now, he would make another bed.

After gathering wool and wood, he walked to his crafting table in the corner.

He stopped in his tracks.

Sitting ever patiently in front of the bench, was a dog, waging his tail.

He shook his head and laughed to himself. The girl hadn't taken him with her with Sky for her training.

He patted the dog, and scooted him aside so he could stand at the table.

He was just about to lay the wool over the planks when he was stuck with a thought.

He had talked to The Snow Girl.

They had quite a decent conversation. Aside from snow samples and spells, they had talked a bit about Sky.

Looking back at it, Seto thoughts more and more about what happened.

Without realizing it, he had never stopped, babbled, stuttered, nor anything to make a conversation awkward.

And with a girl! About his age!

Seto was never good around people, but ESPECIALLY with girls.

In fact, now looking back on his entire time in the Sky Army, The Snow Girl had been his first apprentice.

"Alright, now when Sky takes you up to lake, he's going to go over everything I've already gone over with you."

"How did I do on the duel, again?"

"Fine, fine. I remember that last time you had me by the neck. Now, REMEMBER, never let your guard down. That's when I tripped you by the leg."

"Hah hah. How could I ever forget." She rolled her eyes. Seto smirked.

"By the way, again, why did I ever have you as a trainer before Sky? How many people have you?"

"Ah, now I can't tell you that. Not until after you train with Sky and learn inner peace."

His flash back ended. He had had his first real conversation with someone. To him, it meant a lot.

He finished crafting his new bed, and as he sat down on the side of it, he cupped his hands and stooped over, deep in thought.

Now, why was this the first time he had ever clicked with someone?

The more he thought about it, the happier and happier he got.

He was filled with warm, happy feelings, making him want to jump up and down and be merry.

Was she... Different?

The first person to ever accept Seto for who he was?

Lying in bed that night, he had the best dreams of his life.

"Come on! Push on! Don't give up!" Sky shouted down to The Snow Girl as they climbed a mountain. Every morning, they had a ten mile hike to build strength.

"I... Can't!" She could barely pronounce the words. Her legs hung belong her, with an unimaginable drop.

"Not with that attitude you won't!"

He jumped down a few more feet, and kept on shouting to the girl.

"Come on! You can do it! Don't give up!"

With every ounce of strength, the Snow Girl managed to push up high enough to roll onto the rock. She began to pant.

Sky had his hand extended to her for her to take, and did with a heavy groan.

"All in time, all in time." He looked off at the horizon.

As The Snow Girl straitened herself, she felt the rocks beneath her begin to crumble.

"Oh no." She said. As Sky turned around she was already beginning to trip over the edge.

"Hang on!" He grabbed her hand, but it was to late.

Down, down, down they went. Sky screamed to her to get on top of him, so he may break the fall.

With a crunch, they landed in a grassy area.

"Oof." Sky groaned. The Snow Girl rolled of over him and lied beside him, spreading her arms and legs out, feeling the great ache in every part of her body.

After what seemed like an eternity, The Snow Girl groaned as she pulled herself up, then leaned over the General to give her his hand.

He didn't show it, but she could feel it. Sky was so weak from the fall he could give no help to The Snow Girl as she tried to pull him up.

As weak as she already was, she collapsed from exhaustion.

She feel down again again, limply landing on the pit of Sky's stomach.

"Eyah!" Both said. He pushed her off of him, for she had no strength.

She laid beside him, and did not again attempt to get up.

Sky worked up enough energy to turn his head and look at the girl beside him.

She turned her head to him as well.

He smiled at her, and she smiled back, glowing.
