Chapter Six
(Asher's pov)
One hour.
I had been at this godforsaken party for an hour already, and Travis was still nowhere to be found.
I walked over to Justin, who was taking shots with some of the guys from the football team.
"Hey, do you know where Travis is?"
"I think I saw him and some girl go in the house earlier," Justin slurred out, as he took another shot.
"Thanks," I mumbled.
I walked away from the crowd of drunks and made my way to the house. Once in, I made my up the stairs, going straight towards Travis's room.
"Yo Travis, you in here?" I opened the door, only to quickly shut it.
"Sorry!" I yelled, trying to forget the image I just saw.
"Are you fucking serious, Asher," Travis screamed at me from inside his room.
In his defense, I really should've knocked, I really wished I had knocked.
Seeing my best friend, in bed, naked with two women wasn't exactly something I had ever wanted to see.
A few minutes went by before his bedroom door flew open. A brunette and a blonde girl, who I recognized from the cheerleading team, walked out of his room. Their hair was all messed up, their clothes disheveled, you could tell what they had been doing.
They turned their attention to me, their faces flushed from embarrassment. They quickly ran down the stairs, as Travis walked out in only his jeans.
"Have fun?" I asked, my voice full of sarcasm.
"Was till you showed up," he mumbled, obviously annoyed with me.
He turned away from me, walking back into his room, signaling for me to follow him. I walked in after him, closing the door behind me.
Travis plopped down onto his bed, as I took a seat in his computer chair. I wasn't about to sit on that bed, not with what I had just seen happening on that bed.
"Did you just get here?" Travis asked me.
I watched as he put a cigarette between his lips, lighting it, as he breathed in the smoke.
"I showed up at the time you told me, and I waited an hour for you to finally show your face."
"Sorry bout that, I guess time got away from me," Travis chuckled.
"Aren't you worried about Scarlet finding out?" I asked.
Scarlet had told me that they had broken up, but Travis didn't know that, and I wanted to see his reaction when I brought her up.
His body tensed when I mentioned her, the muscle in his jaw twitched as he snuffed out his cigarette.
"We broke up."
"Oh, I'm sorry man, I didn't know." I faked my sincerity.
"Have you by any chance heard anything about Scarlet around school?"
"No why?"
"She's actually a guy," Travis said, disgust and anger traced his words.
"Really? Is that why you guys broke up?"
"Well yeah, how could I date a guy. I'm not gay Asher!"
"But she's not a guy Travis, she's a girl now," I stated.
Travis sat there, staring at me with hate-filled eyes.
"I don't want to talk about that little bitch anymore."
"Excuse me?"
Anger washed over me at his hateful words. How could he be so disgusting? This sure as hell wasn't the Travis I grew up with. Or maybe I just didn't know him as well as I thought I did.
"What exactly did you do to her?"
"Why, he tell you I did something?"
"She didn't have to, her demeanor said it all."
"I'd like to believe that you didn't do anything to her, that I know you well enough, but I have a feeling I can't say that, just by the simple fact that you haven't tried to deny it once," I spat out.
"And if I did?" He questioned.
"Did you hit her?"
"I didn't hit her, I hit him."
And just like that, I snapped, it was like I had blacked out. One minute I had been sitting in the chair, the next I was standing over Travis, who was lying on the floor with a busted lip and nose.
"YOU'RE A FUCKING PIG TRAVIS," I screamed at him, before storming out of his room.
My gut had told me he had hit her, but some part of me wanted to believe that the guy I had called a best friend and a brother, wasn't like that.
Once I had exited the house, I got in my car. I sat there for a few minutes, trying to calm myself down.
Why, why would he do something like that to her. She hadn't done anything to him.
I put the key in the ignition, starting the car as I sped out of his driveway.
I had to get out of here before I went back into that house and did something I might regret later on.
I switched on the radio, letting the music and the full tank of gas I had, take me far away from everything.
