Chapter One

BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

Was it morning already?

I groggily opened my eyes, my surroundings blurry as I reached over to turn off the annoying sound coming from the alarm clock.

BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

My alarm again, hadn't I just turned it off?

I went to move my right arm, determined this time to shut off the annoying contraption, only to realize I couldn't move.

My eyes widened as I tried moving my other arm, only to have the same outcome.

I tried sitting up, but something was against my forehead, making sure to keep me in place.

My breathing became labored as panic filled my shaking form. My eyes now clear, I looked around the room trying to find anything to tell me where I was.

The room was so dark, I couldn't even make out the ceiling or the walls. The only thing I could make out was this solid red light, that lay across the room.

My body shook profusely, my stomach was in knots, the urge to puke was growing stronger by the minute as the overwhelming stench of feces filled my nose, seeping its way into my lungs.

Where am I?

Had I been kidnapped?

I had a million different thoughts circulating through my head at once when all of a sudden an animated voice pierced through the ominous silence that filled the room.

"Sorry! Due to technical difficulties, the simulation has been interrupted. Normal services will resume shortly."

The click of an intercom shutting off echoed around the room.

Technical difficulties?

What did that mean?

I turned my attention back to the red light, that was now blinking.

Why was it blinking?

Was something bad about to happen?

The sound of a door being unlocked reached my ears. I could hear a door handle being turned before a sliver of light streamed into the darkroom.

The clacking of heels echoed off of the walls. The sound kept growing near until it just stopped. I held my breath, trying to see if I could pick up any other noises, but there was nothing there.

Had I imagined it?

Looking across the room, I realized the door was still open. Well was before it suddenly slammed shut, causing my heart rate to skyrocket.

My breathing began to come out in panicked gasps.

Calm down.

I needed to calm down.

I'd never be able to figure anything out if all I did was panic.

Inhale.

Everything is going to be ok.

Exhale.

I could figure this out.

Inhale.

What if I couldn't get out of here.

Exhale.

NO!

I couldn't think like that. I had to believe there was a way to get out of here.

"Are you done yet?" A bitchy tone rang out, causing my breathing to catch in my throat.

I was right, I hadn't imagined it, there was someone in here with me.

"Not gonna answer me huh?" The same voice asked.

"W-Where am I?" I asked, only to be met with an annoyed sigh.

"Where am I? How did I get here? Who are you? It's always the same damn questions from you people."

I could hear what sounded like hands clapping before light filled the room. Forcing me to close my eyes, my eyes now sensitive from being in the dark for so long.

I slowly opened my eyes, blinking a few times as I adjusted to the light. Above me stood a woman who looked to be in her early twenties, she had purple hair that barely passed her shoulders.

I released a shaky breath when my eyes met with hers, well where her eyes should have been. Her eyes had been sewn shut, black thread was embedded into her eyelids.

Her pale skin seemed to glow under the fluorescent light. She had several piercings that protruded from her skin.

She wore a black dress that clung to her slender form. On the parts of her that weren't covered, I could see what looked like blue ink that drew out several symbols.

What the hell was she?

"Are you through staring at me Scarlet?"

She just said my name. How the hell did she know my name?

"H-How do y-you know my name?"

Her chapped lips smirked at me. Even though her eyes had been sewn shut, I still felt like she was somehow glaring at me.

"Hey, I a-asked yo-"

Her hand rushed forward, her finger pressed against my lips, shushing me.

A chill ran down my spine, her skin was ice cold. Why was she so cold?

"I think that's enough talking for now."

She placed an oxygen mask over my face before an overwhelming smell of roses hit me.

Roses?

Why was I smelling roses?

"There you go, just go to sleep. This has all been just a bad dream," she said in a soothing voice.

She reached her hand out as she began to rub my head. The action soothing me as my eyes began to close.

I needed to stay awake, but whatever drug she was using, was a strong one.

I had tried not to breathe in the chemical that was coming through the mask, but it was hard not to. My body had become limp, almost like I was paralyzed.

I felt lifeless, I felt like I didn't have any control over my body anymore. Like I was the puppet to someone's show, while the puppet master hid behind a curtain, pulling my strings to do their bidding.

"Quit fighting it so hard, just sleep. You'll feel better if you do."

I looked up through tired, hazy eyes. She had an overly faked smile plastered onto her lips, yeah that was going to help me relax.

"Don't make me have to resort to option B."

She reached into her pocket, pulling out a syringe, that was full of a mysterious black liquid.

She wouldn't, would she?

She placed the cap between her teeth, pulling it from the syringe. My eyes widened as she pulled the mask away from my face, throwing it somewhere on the floor.

"Seems like you have a high tolerance to the gas, I guess we'll just have to go with this then," she said, after spitting the cap onto the floor.

"P-Please, don't," I somehow managed to whisper out.

But it was no use, she jammed the needle into my neck, pumping the medicine into me.

It felt like lava was coursing through my veins, the pain took my breath away.

It hurt, all I could feel was the pain. It was like all my nerves had been hit at once.

"There that should do the job."

She threw away the syringe, before walking across the room. The lights turned off before she exited the room, slamming the door behind her.

I was gasping for air as my eyes grew heavy. The same animated voice from before filled the room again.

"The simulation has been restarted. The simulation will begin in 3. 2. 1."

A flash of white light filled my vision before everything went blank.

The sound of someone yelling my name was the last thing I heard before my eyes closed. Leaving me in this blinding white light.
