the chaos

Dr.Ria makes heavy steps towards us, her eyes already speaking of fear.
Mom can still not get a hold of her tears. My hold on her arm, trying to soothe her, seems of no help.
Dr.Ria breaks the haunting silence,
"Our fears have come to reality. I'm really sorry, Mrs.Kim."

Mom almost loses herself, if it was not for my support to push her body on the couch near us.
Dr.Ria helps and pours her a glass of water, from the table while sitting beside her. It's a miracle, mom hasn't fainted, yet. Dr.Ria speaks again, with confidence,
"Sora, this is going to be even harder. And I want you to think of your daughter too, just remember that she is in much more pain. We can't afford to break apart in front of her. This is going to be a long, tough fight and we are going to fight. For now, I have given her sedatives to calm her down. But she will wake up. She has to. We can atleast be thankful, she isn't pregnant. I want you to stay strong, please. If not for yourself, for her."
Mom listens while trying to control her sobs. I'm still registering her words.
She takes my attention,
"Jisoo, don't leave her side. Don't let her be alone. Comfort her. Strengthen her. I know you're a strong girl and you can do this. She needs you."
She says while giving my hand, placed on my mom's arm, a light squeeze.
I'm trying my best to not let out any more tears.

This is too much for our little Han.
Dad interrupts us, looking distressed,
"Uh...Honey, they are here. You-you need to talk to them."

I can see how hard, he is trying to look strong. Mom seems not to hear him. I shake her arm a little,
"Eomma...appa..."
She gathers herself and without making an eye contact with me, excuses herself from Dr.Ria, and manages to stand up straight and walk towards dad. Dad holds her hand, tightly, as if assuring her.
She does not even spare him a look, and they both start to leave the room.

My fear tells me to follow them.

I excuse myself from Dr.Ria and do so. I am two steps behind them. They enter the dining, and I halt my steps outside the room.
I can see and hear everything clearly.

It's Mrs.Jung.

I take a deep breath and try to concentrate.

Dad tells her to take a seat and helps mom take one too. Mrs.Jung hesitantly takes a seat. She has an unreadable expression plastered on her face, that honestly does not give me a good feeling.
Before mom or dad could speak, her sentence spins our entire world.
"I'm here not to stay for long. I'm here to officially end everything."
This takes my mom to finally look someone in their eyes and she manages to say,
"Jung, what-what are you saying?"
Dad also interferes,
"I'm sure we can find a solution for this together, Miss. You need to be with us for that."
Mrs.Jung cold-heartedly states,
"I'm sorry but I cannot let a girl, with such dirt, be my daughter-in-law. God knows, what and what not happened to her in that one night. I-"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN?"
My dad losts it, and shouts at her, while standing up from his seat.
"You know very well what I mean. I trust that girl no more."
Mrs.Jung still says with the same, cold-heartedness, while getting up from her seat.

Before my dad, bursts out again.
Mom stands up, taking his hand in hers to stop him and makes her way towards Mrs.Jung.
She leaves my dad's side and move towards Mrs.Jung, and holds her hand in hers, oh so dearly.
She almost pleads,
"Don't d-do this to us. Nothing has happened. I am sure we can do something about this together. Please Jung, don't..."
She nearly breaks.

Mrs.Jung's expressions softens and she holds back her hand,
"Sora, something has happened, something big. I can't let this dirt be splashed on my family too. It's not we but you, who has to solve this. I can't-"
"LEAVE."
Dad almost shouts through his gritted teeth, while pulling mom towards him.

It takes a while for Mrs.Jung to register what has happened.
My dad says again, this time a little less louder,
"Leave, I said."
"I shall."
Mrs.Jung tries not to add more fuel to the fire, as if she can anymore and takes leave. Her expression, cold as ice.

Mom tries to go back to her but dad firmly hugs her. My mom lets out loud sobs, while saying,
"B-but my-my daughter... My daughter... Yeon... Yeon...my daughter...my Han...our Han...our little baby...our little Han...Yeon...stop her...I-I'll beg her....Yeon...let me go...Yeon..."
Mom's sobs are being muffled by my dad's hard chest. But I can make out her words, her fear. Dad does not utter a single word, and silently cries listening to my mom. This is heart-wrecking. I cannot believe our entire world can be put upside down, just like this. Mom and dad are having this, way too hard. I couldn't imagine Mrs.Jung being this cruel.

Dirt...family...daughter-in-law...we not you... so this is what they always talk about,
family leaving family...

Unknowingly, I feel hot tears escaping my eyes. I try to get a hold of myself, taking the support of the wall.

My mom's constant sobbing... Dad's sniffing... all adding on to my fears of what is about to come...

I close my eyes... trying to find something, some hope, some lie among all this chaos...

All our heartbreaks being interrupted by a thump, accompanied by a
soft, almost familiar whimper,

"eomma....appa....why..."
