Chapter 46

Sabrina's POV:

"So, I guess we've got to find some magical tracking items. Or Google Maps," I said, looking at the address on the weathered postcard.

Puck blinked the sleep out of his eyes. "Ugh, do we have to do this now? I was having an amazing dream about ice cream..."

I rolled my eyes. "I'll go get my phone."

Pin and Puck waited for me while I got it and searched for '736 West Enoivel Road, New York.'

I glared as the small circle spun around and around, signifying that the result was loading. When something finally popped up, I growled angrily.

No results.

"That does not—doesn't—make sense," Pin said, frowning.

I shrugged helplessly. "Maybe it's a cover-up for the real name?"

"Well how are we supposed to figure out the real name?!" Puck exclaimed in annoyance. "You know what, I'm too old for this. My physical and mental well-being is obligatory."

I gave him a 'seriously?' look and shook my head. "I don't know. How does that even work? Is the address we got the real address, and we have to find the one that covers up for it?"

Pin nodded. "Yes. I mean, yeah."

"And how are we supposed to do that?" Puck groaned and dragged a hand down his face. "This is wonderful. I just love this!"

I hit him lightly on the shoulder and turned back to Pin. "But actually, how?"

He shrugged. "I dunno. Try... Um, maybe we reverse the address?"

"New York, Road Enoivel West 736?" Puck frowned.

I copied Pin and shrugged, then typed the address in on my phone. "Nope. Maybe keep the New York at the end?"

Pin nodded. "And actually reverse the number and the name. So, 637 West Levione Road, New York."

I typed it in again. "Nope."

"How about—"

Puck cut Pin off, exclaiming, "What about reversing 'road' too? Because that would be 'doar,' and that sounds like 'door.' So maybe..."

I gasped. "You're right! West Levione Door! I've heard of that before! It's some kind of old monument. Well it's a door, but it's made of many unrecognizable materials and no one has been able to open it. Maybe 637—or 736—is some kind of password?"

Puck and Pin both grinned and the three of us high-fived each other. I searched up where in New York was the West Levione Door, and then turned to them.

"One more thing. We'll need magic. Because there's no way in heaven or hell that Mom, Dad, Uncle Jake, Mr. Canis, or Granny are going to let us go willingly."

Puck grinned. "Good that I'm an excellent thief, then."

We high-fived again and I said, "We go at night. Puck, make sure you find something that'll let us get to New York, and also get past Mr. Canis. He might not be the Big Bad Wolf anymore, but he'll still know if we're sneaking out."

Puck nodded seriously, then after a minute burst out laughing.

I frowned. "What?"

"We had another one of those moments," he said, grinning. "We kind of all just stood there, smoldering."

"Smoldering?" Pin questioned.

"It's a movie reference," Puck dismissed, waving his hand. "Well, I'm off." He turned and ran up the stairs two at a time, most likely heading for Uncle Jake's room, since he was out on a date with Briar.

Daphne's POV:

"We've got to get Red back," I told Ember determinedly—but quietly—as I opened the door to my current room.

She nodded slightly. "But how?" she whispered back.

I cast my eyes down. "I don't know. When we got it out of Tobias, we had the Horn of the North Wind. But that was lost a long time ago."

"Is it possible to...I don't know...coax her back somehow?"

"Maybe, but the chances are extremely slim. The Wolf is really overpowering, and I'm worried she won't even be able to hear me. And then I'm dead." I sighed. "I hate this."

Ember copied me, also sighing. "Me too. I've never really understood Erift. He's always talking about revenge, and I honestly don't see the point. You might think revenge will feel good, but when you finally get it, you feel even more empty."

I raised my eyebrows. "Wow. That was deep. But it's true."

Ember nodded. "The worst part is that he used to be happy." When I gave her a weird look, she elaborated. "I mean, he wasn't like this. We had a generally good life. A normal one, or as far as you can get being us. But still. But then...lots of things happened and I just...lost him."

I gave her a grim smile. "We'll figure it out. I promise. Maybe we'll even manage to save your brother."

Ember looked at me sadly. "I really hope we do. He doesn't deserve this."

I debated on saying that I highly doubted that, but decided that that wouldn't help the mood. "Well, um, we should probably stop talking about this. You never know when, uh, You-Know-Who's listening."

Ember laughed.

"What?" I asked, thoroughly confused.

"No, it's just that... It just sounded like we were in this one book series I read a while ago," she answered, grinning.

"Oh." I smiled. "I know what you're talking about."

A moment of silence passed between us as we appreciated fandoms, until I finally said, "We should probably stop standing out here like this. Let's continue that two-person game of Apples to Apples."

Ember nodded and we stepped into the room, the door closing heavily behind us.

Uncle Jake's POV:

It was late, about 4:00 AM— Wait, would that be early? Ugh, time is confusing. Anyway, as I was saying, it was about 4:00 AM, but Briar and I didn't mind.

We were back at the Baker's. It was my second time here, and as we had walked in, Baker had stared dumbfoundedly, and all he could manage was: "No fairy this time?"

Currently, we were sitting at a small table in a cozy corner next to the small fireplace, drinking hot chocolate as I updated Briar on everything she had missed.

She seemed to take it well, which made me glad. I honestly wouldn't have known how to deal with it if she'd panicked. What can I say, girls are complicated.

"Tell me more about those Truth or Dare games," Briar said, grinning in amusement. "Specifically the one where you had to run around in a clown costume."

I groaned. "You really don't want to see that, I—"

"See? Does that mean it's posted somewhere?" Briar grinned wider.

"What? No no no no no, it's not, I swear—"

She took out her phone—which was miraculously still charged at 89%—and started searching.

As she did that, the Baker came by with two more free doughnuts, and decided to sit down with us.

I cast him an annoyed look but didn't say anything.

"Is it really her?" he asked me quietly, as Briar was too busy searching up the most embarrassing video ever known to the history of me.

I nodded. "We don't know how, but it is. For real."

He grinned and clapped me on the back. "That's wonderful! Enjoy the doughnuts!"

He started to walk away, but Briar suddenly called out happily, "I found it!" and he came back immediately.

"What?" he questioned curiously.

I dropped my head onto the table and groaned frustratedly.

A/N:
We got some cute Jake x Briar! What would their ship name be? Idk. Suggestions, anyone? As I said last chapter, I'm sorry for not updating in so long!!!!
