Becoming rebellious against Bellatrix, Andromeda began hanging out in Muggle coffee shops. It was in one such coffee shop that she met Ted Tonks.

It was a rainy day, and Andromeda hurried into the coffee shop. As she headed to her usual seat, someone beat her to it, then patted the seat next to him. Since the coffee shop was filled to the roof, she obliged the stranger.

“Hello, my name is Andromeda Black.” She said, holding out her hand.

“Ted Tonks. Have I seen you before…? You look familiar.” He said, shaking it.

“Well, I’m in here a lot…” She began.

“But you see, this is my first time coming here, so it can’t be that. Diagon Alley, maybe?”

“No, I haven’t been to Diagon Alley in ages- hey!”

Ted grinned at her. “I knew I’d seen you before. You’re a Ravenclaw, right?”

“Yes. And you?”

“Hufflepuff.”

“Ah, that explains it. I’d remember you.”

“Really.”

“I would! Honest! You’re much too nice for me to forget.”

“Nice? Nice people are always forgotten.”

“Well, I wouldn’t forget you.”

“Fair enough. So, you’re one of the infamous Black sisters?”

“Infamous? Oh dear, what have Bellatrix and Narcissa been up to?”

“Being the sisters of the most beautiful girl in school.”

Andromeda blushed. “Are you sure you’re a Hufflepuff? You talk like a Gryffindor.”

“Nope, I’m much too nice to be in there.” Ted said, grinning.

“Good. The Gryffindors will all get themselves killed one day, and I’d much rather you were a sensible Hufflepuff.”

“Andromeda, are you sure you go to Hogwarts? Hufflepuffs are not regarded, first and foremost, as ‘sensible’.”

“Well, you’re not all throwing yourselves off cliffs to martyr yourselves, right?”

“Right.” Ted laughed.

“So, you’re more sensible than Gryffindors.” Andromeda said.

"You're the first person to call Hufflepuffs 'sensible' that I've met."

"And you don't even know me yet."

Ted grinned. "You're right. I don't, and I'd like to."

Andromeda smiled back. "I'd like to know you too."

This was the beginning of their relationship, and the end of any good relationship Bellatrix (who was once again blamed for Andromeda's 'shortcomings') and Andromeda had with their mother, who started heaping abuse on Andromeda as well.
