Chapter 7

The four of us wondered the dark city streets, hiding whenever we heard police cars. Rhapsody finally broke the silence with questions.

"Umm, so what are we doing? And where are we going?"

I sighed and glanced over at her. "We are going to find a place to stay. Actually, I think we also need a way to blend in."

I crossed my arms and looked around. My eyes finally landed on a small clothing store. We made our way over and I peered through the glass window.

The place looks like it's mostly empty. I grinned and looked back at the others, gesturing for them to follow me. Going inside, Travis cautiously walked behind us, glancing around at our surroundings.

I went straight to the counter, leaning over it to look at the woman at the register. I gave her a small smile.

"Hi there. We're going to have a look around if you don't mind."

The woman stared at me wide eyed, as if startled by my appearance. She slowly shook her head, remaining quiet. I stood up straight again and began looking around.

We had split up to find something suitable to hide our appearances. Travis tagged along behind me, not wanting to leave my side.

Glancing around at the clothes, I noticed Melody coming over to us. She had some clothing in her hand as she approached.

"Harmony, what do you think of this?"

She held out a dark grey jacket. I examined it closely. It could zip up, had pockets and a hood, and it came down to around our thighs. I smiled and patted Melody's shoulder.

"It looks perfect. Show me where you got it."

She nodded and led us down a few aisles until we found a bunch of jackets just like the one in Melody's hands. I picked out a few and decided to go ahead and pick out some other extra clothes too.

Afterwards, we began searching for Rhapsody. After peeking down a few aisles, I finally saw her with a huge pile of clothes in her arms.

"Rhapsody!"

She jumped, yelping in surprise and turning toward me as I frowned at her. "We don't need that many clothes. Put them back, we've got what we need."

"Whaaat?! But, Harmony, I really like these!"

I huffed and crossed my arms. "Rhapsody, half of that stuff you wouldn't even wear."

"Would too!"

I rolled my eyes and marched over. Out of her pile, I grabbed a nightgown.

"Really? Then what's this doing in here? You don't even wear nightgowns."

She nervously laughed. "Uh, well, you see, I-"

"Put. Them. Back."

She stared at me blankly as I glared at her. "Now!"

"Okay, okay. Geez, miss bossy."

She grumbled to herself and put everything away. We took the few things we picked out to the counter. The woman still stared at us as we approached.

Leaning against the counter again, I smiled and said, "I'm sorry to say but, we're broke. I hope that's not going to be a problem."

She continued to watch me, now with a slightly irritated look. I noticed her hand sliding toward the bottom of the counter and frowned.

I quickly grabbed her and pulled her over, keeping her from pressing any buttons that may be under the counter. Now face to face with her, I narrowed my eyes.

"And here I was trying to be nice. You just sealed your fate along with everyone else in the store."

I quickly swallowed up her soul before looking at my sisters and dropping our things.

"Get rid of any witnesses."

They both nodded and headed off. I could hear a few small screams and the thuds of lifeless corpses hitting the floor. I took down a couple of nearby shoppers as well, enjoying the quick snack.

By the time everyone was taken care of, we were already grabbing our things. We put on our jackets and pulled the hoods over our heads. Before leaving, I looked back at the woman's soulless body, still hanging over the counter where I left her.

"Thanks for the clothes. They really suit us."

We left the store and began walking down the street. After a short while, I started hearing sirens in the distance, probably heading to the store we were at.

I glanced up at signs before one caught my eye. The Maneater. It pointed down a small alley to a dark building. I approached the door of the place, going inside with the others quickly following.

Looking around the dim room, there were a few people scattered around at the tables everywhere. Across from where we stood was a bar, where a group of men were drinking and talking.

I smirked and walked over to the bar. Now standing between a couple of guys, they looked me up and down.

"Wow. Hey, baby."

"What a cutie."

I smiled under my hood. "Thanks for the compliments. You guys are quite the flatterers. You make a girl like me feel so special."

The bartender came over to me. "How can I help you, miss?"

I tapped my finger on the counter. "Hmm, I'd actually like to know a bit about this place. I don't suppose you'd let a few people, say, my sisters and me, stay here for awhile, would you?"

The bartender seemed surprised by my question. "Well, we do have a few back rooms, but those are only for people with special privileges."

"What can I do to earn those 'special privileges'?"

While cleaning a few glasses, the man answered, "Let me think on it. In the meantime, feel free to relax and have a drink."

"Thanks, I will."

I left the bar and waved to my sisters and Travis as I headed to a table in the corner of the room. We all sat down and I filled the others in on everything.

I finally explained to my sisters about Travis and vice versa. I also told them about the possibility of staying at this little bar.

I placed my hand on Travis' leg and quietly told him, "Don't worry. I still haven't forgotten about your reward."

He smiled. "The anticipation is killing me, but I'm sure that'll make it even more enjoyable."

I pecked his cheek. I suddenly noticed a small stage at the other end of the room. That's when I got an idea.

I got up and went back over to the bar and asked the bartender, "Do you let people perform here?"

He glanced over at the stage before smiling. "Well, we used to have young women to sing or dance. That's how the bar got the name Maneater. Men of all ages gathered here to watch. Tell you what, if you can impress me and bring in more customers, I'll let you stay here for free."

I grinned. "You've got yourself a deal. What kinds of music you got?"

He showed me a selection of songs and I picked one out before making my way to the stage. I slid my jacket off and grabbed a microphone.

All eyes were on me as the music started and I began to sing.

"I always knew you were a bad boy
I used to think that it was cool
You took me down just like a Rob Roy
But now I'm coming after you

Run Devil run run Devil run run
Run Devil Devil run run"

My sisters had come over and joined me on stage. Everyone was watching us with those usual expressionless eyes. I looked to Melody to pick up where I left off.

(Melody)
"I never knew about your red horns
I never saw your evil scars
You used to be what I would live for
But then you went and stabbed my heart"

(Rhapsody)
"The promises that you promised
Are about as real as an air guitar
So watch your back cause I'm gonna steal your car"

(All)
"You better run, run, run, run, run
Cause there's gonna be some hell to pay
You better run, run, run, run, run
And that's the only thing I'm gonna say, hey
I wish I'd known right from the start
That I was dancing with the dark
You better run, run, run, run"

(Harmony)
"Run Devil run run Devil run run
Run Devil Devil run run"

After finishing the song, everyone clapped, cheered, and wolf whistled. Leaving the stage, we went over to the bartender, who grinned happily like a little kid.

"Alright, you girls are really going to bring in the customers! The back rooms and everything on the menu is free of charge for you! You can stay here as long as you want!"

I smiled, looking over at my sisters to see them both smiling happily. I then went over to Travis, taking his hand and quietly leading him to a back room, seeing a small bathroom with a shower along the way.

There was a large bed at the end of the room along with a sofa and coffee table. I grinned, sitting Travis down with me on the bed.

"Time for your reward, tiger."
