4. ...but you can't hide
Murdoc walked down the silent school hallway. He was in a remote part of school where students didn't like to hang out. There were rumours that the place was haunted.
The school had two floors and all together five sets of stairs. There was one staircase in this area of school, but everyone refused to use it due to the rumour. Students did their best to avoid the place and often ended up taking detours when going up/down stairs. Teacher's did their best to clear up the misunderstanding but it never worked.
As Murdoc approached the staircase he could hear slight whimpering, but he knew that this was no ghost. When he finally reached the stairs he noticed a small figure huddled over in the corner. Murdoc walked up to the blue haired boy with a sigh. His knees were tucked into his chest, his forehead was hoovering above his knees, hiding his face in his chest, and his hands formed a protective layer over his head, blocking out all the light and noise. He didn't seem to notice the bassist approaching him until he slumped down beside him, cornering him.
"Found you." Murdoc grinned. 2d didn't reply, but Murdoc could see his hands beginning to tremble and his breath became shaky. His face remained hidden.
Murdoc really wanted 2d to join his band, so instead of being aggressive he decided to take a different approach... if they were going to be in the same band they would have to at least tolerate each other.
"What's wrong? Headache?" The bluenette nodded. "Let me guess, you forgot your pills?" 2d nodded again. Murdoc sighed and placed his bag in front of him. He reached inside and took out the bottle of pills. "That's what you get for leaving your pills at home on purpose as an excuse to not hang out with me." 2d didn't reply. Karma. He thought to himself. "Here." Murdoc held the pills in front of him.
2d very slowly raised his head, his eyes only half open, and slowly reached out his hand for the bottle. His head hurt too much to even say 'thank you'. He spilled some pills onto his hand, not even caring how much, and was about to swallow them when Murdoc stopped him by grabbing his wrist. 2d looked at him with a pained expression, questioning him. Why would you offer me pills if you're not even going to allow me to take them? Is this some kind of trick? Are you only going to give them to me when I agree to join your band? Well it's not gonna work!
"Too many." Murdoc simply stated, he then took some pills from the bluenette's hand and threw them back into the bottle, decreasing the amount from seven to three. The bassist let go of his hand. 2d looked at him for a moment before swallowing the pills dry. He felt kinda guilty for accusing Murdoc, but then again, the satanist shouldn't be underestimated, 2d knew that all too well.
He gave him back the bottle and then put his head back down, hoping that the bassist won't start a conversation with him. He knew that Murdoc never took a 'no' for an answer, but there was no way he was going to agree.
"So 2d," the bluenette groaned in disappointment lightly, but loud enough for the bassist to hear him. "Did you just groan at me?" Murdoc demanded. 2d gasped, afraid.
"S-sorry..." he whispered, hoping that Murdoc would take pity on him because of the headache and not attack him. The bassist rolled his eyes and leaned his head against the wall, he decided to give the pills some time to start working. They sat in silence for the next few moments.
Murdoc glanced at the bluenette sitting beside him. So calm... I barely ever see him like this. Whenever he's around me he's always fidgeting or trembling. But now... He almost didn't want to break the silence, but he knew that lunch was going to end at any moment now and he didn't know when was the next time he would get to see 2d.
"2d." No reply. "I want you to come to band practice today."
"You know I can't." 2d mumbled in response.
"What? Why?" Murdoc was about to start getting angry.
"It's lasagna Thursday." Murdoc thought for a moment.
"Ah, right. Your mom's coming home early today, isn't she?"
"Yeah. And making lasagna." 2d added. Murdoc sighed.
"Right..." Thursdays were the only days when he wasn't allowed to drag 2d off somewhere after school because of his mom. She didn't know that the two were spending so much time together, she thought her son would always return home right after school. Usually she would return home at about eleven, so Murdoc could do whatever he wanted with 2d. But not on Thursdays, when she was usually home before him.
"U-Umm.." 2d hesitantly looked up. "Lessons are going to start soon so I should probably..." he reached for his bag.
"Wait." Murdoc grabbed his wrist that was reaching out for the bag. 2d froze. "I want to talk to you about the band." The bluenette looked at him with a sad face expression, begging him to not do this to him.
"B-But lessons... and I've got a headache..." 2d tried creating excuses.
"I need to talk to you about this, and I don't know when will be the next time I'll find you." 2d sighed.
"Murdoc I don't want to join the band..." he said, avoiding eye contact.
"But why?"
"Because you ruined my life, you know you did, and you've been bullying me for the past month or so. We're not even friends, you hate me. We can't be in the same band if we can't get along." 2d calmly explained. "Plus being in the band would mean that I'd have to spend more time with you, giving you more opportunities to hurt me, or abuse me..." the bluenette was looking away, he seemed depressed.
"Listen, I promise that I can change your mind and make you join the band, just give me a chance." Murdoc asked. This was new, 2d never got to decide what happened to him, Murdoc would just order him around, never ask if he was ok with it. 2d hesitated.
"...Can I go now?" Murdoc sighed.
"If you wanna go that badly, you've got to promise me that we'll talk about this tomorrow." 2d didn't reply, just looked up at him. "Will we talk about this tomorrow?" He repeated himself.
"Y-Yeah..." 2d lied. He had to resist the urge of saying 'no way, tomorrow I'm going to try even harder to hide from you.' He had to play along if he wanted to get out of there.
"Good." Murdoc let go of his wrist and 2d immediately stood up, not looking back as he hurried away. Murdoc sighed. It was so hard to get along with him.
Did you notice what I did with the last two titles and pictures?
