27. Family dinner
"Hey... we're here." Murdoc turned to 2d. The car stood in front of 2d's house with the engine still on. 2d's mom's car was in the driveway. The bluenette slowly opened his eyes and sighed as he leaned back in his seat, his face was still slightly pink. "You ok?"
"No..." 2d spent the journey thinking about what happened and his mood dropped again. "I'll get over it soon enough..." At that moment they both heard a ding. 2d reluctantly looked at his phone, hoping it wasn't Paula who texted him. It was his mom.
-mom-
"STUART"
"I SWEAR TO GOD ARE YOU IN THAT CAR??"
(2d raised an eyebrow and replied.)
"Yeah"
"Who's in there with you?"
"A friend"
(2d didn't like where this was going.)
"Invite him/her over for dinner"
"I want to meet your friend"
(The bluenette's eyes widened, this was bad. He tried to think of something to say to persuade his mother to give up on that idea.)
"Don't you dare get out of that car without them"
"But mom..."
"No butts! Ask"
-
2d sighed and turned to Murdoc. The bassist looked back at him, confused.
"Mom's inviting you over for dinner." 2d reluctantly stated.
"Uhh..." Murdoc didn't necessarily know what to reply. "Is she aware that she's inviting me over?"
"She's inviting my 'friend' over." 2d duly stated.
"Well that's nice of her but I think I'll pass..." Murdoc knew how much 2d's mother hated him, she would flip if she saw him. Not to mention that 2d wasn't in the mood to deal with this kind of mess.
The bluenette texted his mother explaining that his friend declined, but she only further insisted.
-mom-
"Mom, no"
"Stuart. You never bring friends over anymore. I was actually beginning to think that you're some kind of loner. But now I hear that you're in a band and you really do have friends. I want to meet them!"
-
"Ugh." 2d rolled his eyes.
"No can do, huh?" Murdoc looked over at him. 2d shook his head.
"She's gonna kill me when she finds out I've been hanging out with you..." 2d sighed.
"Even if she does, I can assure you that she's going to try to kill me first." 2d's mother texted him once again, growing impatient.
-mom-
"The lasagna is getting cold. Get your asses over here!"
-
"So what?" 2d turned to Murdoc. "Ya coming with me to die?"
"Sure." Murdoc sighed lightly.

2d's mother excitedly observed from the living room window, keen to finally meet her sons friend. She observed as the blue boy left the car first, he seemed sadder than usual.
The car engine turned off and the drivers side door swung open. She observed who it was and she saw... someone who she never wanted to see again...

Murdoc walked up to the bluenette and they started making their way towards the house. The bassist glanced over at 2d who was looking down miserably. Fuck... he thought. This is going to be awkward.
They reached the front door and 2d didn't even have time to take his keys out when it swung open. His angry mother stood in the doorway.
"Stuart." She growled. 2d sighed and looked at her, not bothered.
"You wanted to invite him for dinner, so here he is." 2d grabbed Murdoc's hand a pulled him inside. His mother slightly backed away, glaring in shock.
"I thought you said 'friend'." She started.
"He is my friend." 2d carelessly replied. His mother stood angrily with her arms crossed, blocking their path.
"Stuart." Oh god, she's gonna rant. 2d thought, still holding onto Murdoc's hand who stood behind him. Murdoc decided to stay quiet for now. "Do you not realise that this..." she tried not to swear. "...goddamn piece of-" she growled under her breath. "Run you over, twice, and put you in a coma?! You could have died!" She complained. "You can't just befriend him!" His mother was speaking as if Murdoc wasn't even there. "This isn't some bloody movie where everyone gets along!"
"Mom-" 2d tried, but was interrupted.
"Oh no, I'm not done. How could you even get into a car with him?! I thought I taught you better than that!"
"Mom-!" 2d rolled his black eyes.
"Stuart, this is stupid and dangerous! I love you and I care about you, and I'm telling you, nothing good will come out of this." She paused to glare at the two.
"Mom, are you done?" 2d looked at her, clearly not in the mood. His mother exhaled in disapproval.
"Yes." She turned to return to the kitchen. She knew that what was done was done, and good manners prohibited her from kicking the boy out right after she invited him for dinner. 2d sighed and looked down, grasping Murdoc's hand slightly tighter. They walked to the dining table in silence and sat down next to each other.
Murdoc wasn't happy with the situation. He couldn't help but blame himself for 2d's misery. Even though he got the bluenette to trust him, his mother wasn't as forgiving, and he knew that he deserved to be yelled at.
Soon enough 2d's mother reappeared with the lasagna. She sat down opposite her son and they all started eating in awkward silence.
"So how did... this... happen?" 2d's mother finally broke the silence, still not pleased.
"Uh, I joined Murdoc's band and we kinda just became friends." 2d reluctantly explained.
"His band?!" 2d and Murdoc both avoided making eye contact with her. "Why would you do that?"
"2d is a great singer." Murdoc decided to speak up, there was no way he was going to show that he was intimidated.
"His. Name. Is. Stuart!" 2d's mom nearly banged on the table with each word. She hated that nasty nickname.
"Mom, stop." 2d sighed. His mom looked at him.
"Why do you look so depressing today?" She finally asked.
"..." 2d hesitated. "I broke up with Paula today..." His mom raised her eyebrows.
"Really?" She was surprised, but honestly she knew it was coming.
"Yeah... I guess we just weren't meant for each other..." 2d looked down at his food.
"I'm sorry hon." For the first time today his mother sounded genuinely caring.
"It's ok." 2d mumbled with a sigh. Murdoc looked at him, not liking to see him in this state.
They finished the meal in silence and 2d's mom took the plates away. As she stood up to do so she glared at Murdoc.
"Now that the meal is over, you're welcome to go home." She bitterly stated. Before Murdoc had any chance to reply 2d did so for him.
"No, Murdoc's going to stay over for a bit." He stated, his words were empty. The bluenette grabbed Murdoc's hand and stood up, pulling him up with him. "We're going to be in my room." 2d dragged Murdoc upstairs without another word. His mother sighed, she was worried about him.
-
Murdoc didn't have to stay over but 2d wanted him to. He didn't want to be alone, even though he wasn't in the mood to talk. 2d rampaged a bit around his room and found his keyboard. He took it and sat down next to Murdoc on the bed. He sighed and started playing a random melody. Murdoc stopped him from time to time and told him to use different keys or play at a different pace, he ended up taking random sheets of paper and scribbling down the notes.
It was a nice way to spend their evening.
It's so easy to socialise online, why is it so hard irl?
