17. "Boyfriend"

"Maybe you two just aren't meant for each other?" Murdoc's words kept circling 2d's head as he sat in his extra maths lesson on Monday. They had a conversation at lunch about his relationship with Paula, which Murdoc believed shouldn't be happening. Despite 2d denying everything he said, he couldn't help but notice that some of the points he was making were true, and their relationship wasn't as good as it used to be. He sighed and looked down at his desk. Fuck.... Murdoc's right, isn't he..? What should I do? This is the longest relationship I've ever been in, I don't want it to just end. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention to her? Maybe she's jealous because I spend so much time with Murdoc. I know she hates him.. and he hates her...

"Class dismissed." These words pulled 2d out of his daydream. He got up and gathered his stuff. While throwing his bag over his shoulder he looked out of the window; it was cloudy and windy. He sighed miserably and then turned to leave the classroom. He expected Murdoc to be waiting for him outside the door, ready to drag him to his car, but... he wasn't there. 2d looked around, surprised.

He's late. 2d's eyes widened with a realisation. Does that mean... I can walk home alone?? 2d looked down the hallway, to his right was freedom, but if he walked left- No. What am I thinking? This is the one chance I get to get away from Murdoc, I can't waste it. He scolded himself mentally and begun walking right. He walked down the stairs and was now a few meters away from the exit, but he hesitated. He looked back at the corridor leading to the music room. It's going to be boring walking alone... and cold... I suppose... the car isn't that bad...

2d walked away from the gates to freedom and towards the music room. He didn't have to, but he wanted to. He gave up on his only chance to not get in the car because he wanted to spend time with Murdoc. Because they were friends.

As 2d approached the music room he heard yelling. Really loud yelling. As he got closer he was starting to make out the words.

"YOU'RE OVER EXAGGERATING!" A strong male voice, clearly Murdoc.

"OH YEAH? THEN HOW ABOUT YOU DATE HIM AND SEE FOR YOURSELF?!" A pissed female voice, Paula.

I wonder what they're arguing about this time? 2d stood a safe distance away from the door in case it suddenly swung open.

"MAYBE I WILL!" Murdoc yelled back at her.

"FINE!"

"FINE!"

"I BET YOU WON'T LAST 'TILL NOON!" Paula yelled.

"FUCK YOU, THERE'S NO WAY IT'S THAT BAD!"

"LET'S FIND OUT THEN! TOMORROW YOU'RE DATING!"

"What?" Murdoc seemed stunned. "Wait, you're being serious about this?"

"Of course I'm being serious!" Paula barked back at him. There was a moment of silence in which 2d wondered if they were finally done yelling. He walked up to the door to hear better.

"Shit! I'm late to pick up 2d!" Murdoc suddenly burst out.

"Ugh! The only thing you ever talk about is 2d!" Paula complained.

"Well you never talk about him!" Murdoc growled.

"Whatever!" The door suddenly swung open, causing 2d to fall to the ground. He rubbed his head and looked up to see Paula, glaring. I should have seen that coming... He thought to himself.

"2d??" Murdoc's shocked voice was heard from within the classroom. His tone was softer. "What are you doing here? More importantly, are you ok?"

"Y-Yeah..." Came a small response. Murdoc soon appeared in the doorway. 2d stayed seated on the ground, a bit afraid.

"Perfect fucking couple." Paula rolled her eyes.

"W-What?" 2d looked up at her confused.

"2d, we're not dating tomorrow." She bitterly stated.

"What??" 2d panicked. "What do you mean??"

"Me and Murdoc had a conversation about our relationship so we're taking a break." Paula explained.

"But-!"

"Tomorrow you're dating Murdoc."

"WHAT?!" 2d's eyes widened.

"He thinks I'm mistreating you, so I'm going to let him see for himself how it feels to date you." She's saying it as if it's something bad... 2d and Murdoc had the same thought.

"You realise that now you're exposing me to verbal, physical and sexual abuse, right??" 2d was afraid. Murdoc looked at him, not approving his use of words. Paula just shrugged and walked away, happy to be free tomorrow. "Paula wait!" 2d called after her, but to no avail, she was gone. He sighed in disappointment and looked back at Murdoc.

"I guess I have a lot of explaining to do, huh?" He reached down and helped the bluenette up.

"Yeah. You do." 2d's voice was emotionless, if not a bit angry. Murdoc sighed and begun walking. 2d slowly followed. Murdoc made sure to match his speed. "Did she just break up with me?"

"Uh, no. We're only dating for tomorrow, then you're back with her." Murdoc calmly explained. "You see, we had this argument about you because I got pissed that she's a shitty girlfriend, but she claimed that she's not. She blamed you and said that dating you is impossible." Murdoc stopped talking when he saw how depressed 2d was looking. They walked in silence for a while, their speed was slow but constant.

"Murdoc..." 2d finally spoke up. "Do you think I'm a shitty boyfriend?" He looked up at him expectantly.

"Well, I'm going to find out tomorrow, but I don't think so." 2d sighed and looked down again. Murdoc didn't want him to feel this way.

"What did she say about me?"

"Uh..." Murdoc considered not telling him, just to not make him feel any worse.

"Tell me. Please..." 2d's voice was sad. Murdoc sighed.

"Well, she said that you two don't spend enough time together, and that you don't give her enough attention."

"...it's hard when she's so distant..." 2d mumbled.

"Anyway." Murdoc quickly changed the subject. "Why would you... Uh," he didn't know how to phrase his sentence. "Why would you think that... what do you... ugh." Murdoc rubbed his face with his hand in frustration.

"What?" 2d looked up at him.

"Well, you said something about being exposed to sexual abuse. Why?"

"C'mon, the only reason you ever date a girl is to do... that." 2d said awkwardly.

"But! This is different!" Murdoc protested, slightly frustrated at the thought. "Do you really think we're going to..?"

"I don't want to." 2d duly stated.

"Good." Murdoc sighed. "Me neither. By the way, what were you doing outside the music room? I didn't show up to your maths class so you could have just walked home."

"I know... I just, wanted to go home with you, or something..." 2d avoided eye contact. This made Murdoc warm on the inside.

As they walked out the main door 2d slowed down even more. Murdoc noticed this, but was also surprised that he didn't have to drag him. He was glad that he allowed 2d to move at his own pace, it was better.

2d looked at the car and then looked away, stopping in his tracks. Murdoc also stopped and looked at him.

"No." 2d clenched his fist and violently shook his head. "I can't do it. I thought I could but I can't." Murdoc gently sighed and walked up to him, placing an arm around his shoulders in a semi-tight grip. He noticed that 2d's eyes were shut tight, his body was also very tense, as usual.

"Come on, I'll help you." Murdoc dragged the bluenette towards the car. 2d whimpered at the sound of the door opening. "Here, it's ok." Murdoc gently sat him down inside and closed the door. 2d started trembling. Murdoc sighed again and then got into the car from the drivers seat. He looked at the trembling bluenette. Maybe we can walk tomorrow?

Murdoc slumped down onto his bed. It was getting dark.

Why did I say it? "Maybe I will". It's not like I want to date him... but, I guess I don't mind... it won't be that bad. He sighed. Hehe, I can't believe I actually got them to separate, if only for a day. Murdoc allowed a smile onto his face. He hated to admit it but being friends with that dullard was actually pretty fun. And he was kinda cute too... with those big black eyes and soft blue hair... not to mention that toothless smile... oh, and that voice! Dating him is going to be pretty fun...

I think I got food poisoning from school food...
