Chapter 4: Sunsets and Shopping Carts

"Today we will be tackling two more items off the list!" Cas announced.

"And what have you chosen today?" Dean questioned, eager to get started.

"Well-" Before Cas could begin, Sam popped his head into the room.

"Hey, Dean, I found a werewolf case in Cedar Rapids, if you're interested," Sam explained. He eyed Cas, curious as to what the pair was up to.

"Uh," Dean glanced over at Cas's hopeful expression, then back at his brother. "I think I'll stay here with Cas this time, if you think you can handle it."

"Okay." Sam agreed. "Can I take the Impala?"

"Hell no."

"Jerk."

"Bitch."  Then the moose pranced away to pack his bags. Cas tilted his head in confusion.

"Why didn't you want to go?" He questioned. Dean shrugged.

"We've got a list to complete, don't we?" Dean offered. Cas's heart gave a happy little jump, and he smiled.

"Well, I was thinking today we could do shopping carts?" He asked.

"Shopping carts? What's so special about those?"

"I don't know. I just heard you can have a lot of fun with them." Dean paused, thinking. He grinned and grabbed his leather jacket, heading for the door.

"Come on, Cas, we're going to the grocery store."

*******

Castiel liked the grocery store. He enjoyed watching the other shoppers, and examining the interesting objects the store sold. Like lobsters that were still alive in a tank, or oranges. He would often wander away from Dean or Sam while in the store, and the Winchesters would just roll their eyes, finish their shopping, and then wander the store looking for the angel.

One this particular day, Cas ended up on the toy aisle, examining a lego set.

"There you are!" Dean's voice sighed, walking up to Cas.

Cas glanced over, and spotted the shopping cart. It was filled with a fire extinguisher, fireworks, and a lot of pie.

"Why do we need those things to experience shopping carts?" He questioned.

"You'll see." Dean offered, grabbing Cas's hand and leading them towards the checkout.

The hunter blushed when he realized he had grabbed Cas's hand, but the angel didn't seem to notice.

After they had left the store, Dean ditched the pie and fireworks in the car, then headed up to the top of a hill with Cas, the cart, and the fire extinguisher.

"What are we doing?" Cas asked again. Dean just grinned, and stopped at the top of the hill. No one was around, so they were in the clear.

"Alright, get in." Dean instructed, gesturing to the shopping cart. Cas eyed Dean cautiously, but got in the cart. Dean hopped in behind him, although it was a tight squeeze.  "I've always wanted to try this,"  Dean admitted, holding the fire extinguisher out behind him.

"Try what?" Cas asked nervously.

"Hold on!" Dean advised, so Cas grabbed onto the hunter. Dean rolled his eyes, and set the fire extinguisher off. The blast sent them forward, launching them down the hill. Cas screamed, half in terror, half in glee, and his grip around Dean's waist tightened. Dean laughed and held onto the side of the cart as they went shooting down, the wind whipping through their hair.

Half a block passed the bottom of the hill, they ran out of momentum, and the cart stopped. Cas let out a cry of joy.

"That was amazing!" He declared. "AGAIN!" Dean laughed.

"You're such a child." He teased.

"Children do have the most fun," Cas insisted. "Now let's do that again!"

So they went down the hill dozens more times, and every time, Dean told Cas to hang on, and every time, the angel would wrap his arms around the Winchester instead.

Eventually, when the light started to fade, they stopped and headed to the field near the bunker, laying in the grass and eating the pie Dean had bought.

"I am amazed you are sharing," Cas commented. Dean grunted.

"It's a rare occasion." He mumbled around the pie in his mouth. "Enjoy it while it lasts."

"I will." Cas stared out at the field, smiling at the sunset. "You know, this crosses off another item."

"And what's that?"

"Sunsets." Dean set the pie down, leaned back against a rock, and stared at the sky. It was full of vibrant shades of orange, pink, and purple. Cas leaned next to him, his head resting on the hunter's shoulder. If Dean minded, he didn't say anything about it. A few minutes passed, and Dean slipped his arm around the angel, completely content.

They stayed there until the sun had completely gone down, and the stars had emerged, just enjoying the world together, as they were always meant to.
