Tick Tock
We were all staring at a clock, timing how long had Zane been in the water, meditating. After tenish minutes he finally resurfaced.
"Ten minutes! He just broke his own record. The guy's inhuman!" Kai yells as Zane hung onto the Bounty.
"Amazing!" Cole said.
"We're not worthy!" Jay got on his knees and started bowing.
"I broke the record?" Zane asks.
"You destroyed it!" I exclaimed, throwing my hands up in the air.
"Okay, okay. Is anyone thinking what I'm thinking? We've been training for so long, I don't think we can get any better. Just think about all we've accomplished!" Jay said, and I let out a small sigh, thank gods. The last few days have been chaotic and I mean literally. As long as they don't bother me I'm fine but, ugh.
"The question should be raised. Perhaps we have reached our full potential?" Zane points out. We all walk down to Sensei' quarters. "Well, every morning I do five hundred push-ups."
"Five hundred? Ha, try a thousand." Kai boasts.
"Hahaha, I do a thousand and one." Jay crosses his arms.
"What is this, amateur hour? Sounds like my warm-up." Cole opens the door to the hallway.
"You know what I do?" I ask, and the boys look at me. "Actually nevermind, I forgot what I do," I say making the guys facepalm.
"Sensei, what does True Potential look like if—" Cole opens the door to Sensei wrapping up a katana.
"Our apologies, Sensei. We've interrupted you." Zane bows and we all follow his example.
"I'm sorry if I've been distant lately. My mind has been elsewhere since Lloyd has gone missing. What can I help you with?" Wu sets the katana in the pack and closes it.
"Sensei, what if we've done enough training? What if we've reached our True Potential? What if we're ready?" Cole asks.
"Hm. You might have reached peak physical condition, but you've yet to reach your inner potential. In each and every one of us, there are obstacles that hold us back. Only when you conquer that fear will your heart be free. Only then will you reach your True Potential. Only then will we have a fighting chance to stop the Serpentine from releasing the Great Devourer." Sensei looks out the window.
"There's more to the Great Devourer than you've led on, isn't there, Sensei?" Zane asks.
"I too have obstacles within my own heart. There's a story I've never told you. Long ago, when I was a young boy, Garmadon and I were more than brothers. We were the best of friends." Sensei Wu sits down and starts a story, and we all come closer.
"Wait a minute. Now, I know you two were brothers, but really? The King of Cruelty the Doer of Destruction, the Captain of Chaos, and you two were friends?" Jay asks and we all look at him with a What The Ninjago Jay look.
"Please, no interruptions. You see, he did not always have a wicked heart. One day, I lost this very katana." He shows us the katana he packed. "Knowing our father would be mad, my brother told me to go retrieve it. But I refused. He told me not to put off what can be done today and went to get it himself. He didn't return. When my father found him, he was very ill, for he was bitten by a legendary snake that would grow forever as long as it consumes. A great evil had found its way into my brother's heart, for the snake's venom could turn the purest of things wicked. The snake is the same one the Serpentine wants to reawaken today. It is the snake that took my brother away from me." Sensei finishes his story on a sad note and gets up.
"So the Great Devourer turned your brother into the Dark Lord," Kai says.
"It was all my fault. You five have finished your training. You must now focus on stopping Pythor from collecting the Fangblades. But never lose focus on the obstacles that lie within each of your hearts that hold you back from true greatness. Unlock your True Potential." Sensei Wu starts walking to the door.
"But how are we supposed to do that, Sensei?" Zane asks.
"It is up to each of you to discover. Now I must go on a personal journey of my own." Sensei repositions the case on his shoulder.
"Where are you going?" I ask.
"To a place, you cannot follow."
"If you're going for Lloyd, the City of Ouroboros is filled with hundreds of Serpentine. You'll never do it alone." Cole says.
"I am going to find someone who can be of aid. The Serpentine have united and grown stronger and we will need all the help we can get." Sensei leaves the room.
We all drop off Sensei Wu at a nearby mountain and start brainstorming ideas to get the 4 Fangblades before the Serpentine do.
"What should we do? The Serpentine probably already has a map but we don't. Anything works. Just say it." Nya gets out a paper and a pen.
"Post missing flyers of the Fangblades in Jamanakai Village?" Cole suggests.
"Steal the map from the Serpentine?" Kai says.
"Make our own map?" Jay asks.
"Find another map?" Zane speaks.
"Does anyone have any orange slices?" I ask and they all look at me. "What? You guys said anything." I shrug.
"I think the safest thing to do right now is to post missing signs of the Fangblades. I'll search up some stuff about the Fangblades. Someone start printing those please." Nya starts typing on the computer as the guys start making missing posters. I grab some orange slices from the kitchen and place them on a plate, letting others grab it before going to help Zane with the posters themselves. We then go to Jamanakai Village and start hanging the posters up.
"Oh, this is silly," Zane complains.
"You have any better ideas?" Cole counters.
"Hey, maybe Sensei is gonna go get the Samurai for help!" Jay says, turning to looks at us.
"The Samurai? I'm sure she's—" Kai says and I discreetly step on his foot. "I mean, he's busy looking for the Fangblades as well." He grimaces, as he looks down to his foot, where I had stepped on him. I smile and continue hanging posters.
"Uh, is everything all right?" Cole asks.
"Yeah, yeah. Why wouldn't it be?" Kai says, rubbing the back of his head nervously with the one hand he wasn't using to hold posters.
"One hundred percent. We're not hiding anything." Nya says nervously and I mentally facepalm. They are honestly the worst liars there are. We go back to hanging posters until an angry shop person interrupts us.
"Hey, weirdo. You're making a mess of my storefront. Yoo-hoo! You got a problem? Maybe I should teach you a lesson on manners." We poke our heads around the corner to see that Zane was being yelled at by a shopkeep. His missing posters were scattered around, tossed by the wind. We hurry over to him as he completely drops all of his posters, and steps away from the shop.
"I'm sorry, sir. Sometimes our friend is in another world." Kai quickly apologizes.
"He's littering all over the place!" The man complains, throwing a hand out to show Zane's mess.
"We'll pick it up," Cole says.
"So sorry," I say, helping Kai pick up some flyers off the ground.
"Zane, what's the deal?" Jay asks as he pokes his head around the corner. "Ah! It's the Falcon! Oh, my gosh! Every time we follow it, it leads us to good fortune!" Jay points at the Falcon and we all finish putting away the flyers so we poke our heads around the corner and there it was, the magical Falcon flying up and down.
"Head back to the Bounty and wait till you hear from us." Kai turns around and tells Nya who repositions the bag of flyers on her shoulder.
"But where are you going?" Nya asks.
"We're gonna follow the bird. Who knows, it could lead us to the first Fangblade." Kai says, running to catch up with the others. I push up with my hands, summoning magic to them.
"I'm going to follow them. I need the practice for flying. See you later!" I say, flying after them.
"Kaylee, you aren't supposed to be here!" Zane says, running after the bird.
"Well, I am here now. Besides, I need the training." I say, floating upside down, then rolling over and flying off.
"I guess good fortune is really far away." Kai pants as they run over sand dune after sand dune. We soon meet a mountain range and start climbing up. On the next few mountains, however, we got even more tired but still pushed forward. I decide to start walking so I could save some of my energy. Suddenly, Jay slumps down on a rock. We turn to look and him.
"Keep going. I'll...I'll catch up later." He wheezes. We nod and continue on. We arrive at a log bridge and Zane and Kai easily run over. I fly up, trying to not look down at the sinking depths of nothingness below me. I land on the other side, and we turn to face Cole, who is gripping the tree trunk carefully, lying down on it.
"I'm good. Just...just taking a breather. Uh, I'll meet up with you shortly." Cole says. We go ahead as we near the Birchwood forest and we stop at a sign.
"Good thing...we're in...peak...physical...condition. Gosh, that bird just keeps going." Kai pants, bending down and putting his hands on his knees. I land and fall down into a nearby snowbank, relishing the coldness that hugged my figure. "Hey, what do you make of this?" Kai asks.
"I am not familiar with a Treehorn," Zane replies.
"It's probably just some wild squirrels, heh. Well, don't lose him. I'll wait for the other guys to catch up." Kai says and Zane takes off again.
"Gosh, that guy never gets tired," I say, putting some snow in my mouth. It trickles down my parched throat and I sigh. Cole and Jay soon catch up and we follow the set of footprints that Zane left behind. We soon come up into a house that was built into a tree. We slowly opened the door and walked down the stairs.
"Zane?" I called, walking the winding stairs. We see Zane bent down on his knees in the corner and we rush up to him
"Wow, would you look at this place? Zane, what's wrong?" Jay looks around at the place, it was obviously no one had lived here for a long, long time.
"Are you hurt?" Kai asks.
"You okay? Hey, what..." Cole says, and Zane stands up. With not so much of a glance to the side. He opens up his torso, to reveal robot parts. We all gasp in surprise.
"You're a robot?" Kai asks.
"All this time, and I never knew." Zane sadly said.
"Uh, guess this explains why you're always acting so weird. Right? Hehe." Jay said.
"The reason I never had a sense of humor was because my funny switch wasn't on." Zane flipped a switch that was labeled: Humor. He started doing silly dance moves while singing an upbeat tune. "Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal! Send me a kiss by wire!"
"Uh, it just makes you more special. You're still the same Zane. Just more, uh, gears." Cole says.
"No matter what you're made of, you're still our brother," Kai says.
"Really?" Zane asks
"In fact, I bet it even makes you an even better Ninja," I exclaimed, throwing my arms around him happily, putting him in a tight squeeze. He pushes me away and I cock my head to one side.
"Yeah, and how cool is it that I can honestly say. My brother is a Nindroid?" Jay says.
"A Nindroid?" Zane questions.
"Now come on. Pythor is still out there looking for the first Fangblade, and we need you." Cole tries to grab Zane's hand but he pulls away.
"You'll have to go on without me. I just don't feel right." We nod and leave, but not before I hug Zane again.
"You're still my big brother. In fact, I think you define yourself. Not anyone else. Your Zane. Just Zane." I let go and run to the others. We walk out of the house.
"We just have to give him time. I don't know how I would feel if I was told I was a robot." Kai says, shutting the door behind him, leaving a small crack.
"You mean a Nindroid." Jay points out.
"Yeah. Whatever." Kai rolls his eyes.
"How the heck do we get out of this place?" Cole asks, and a soft roaring sound issued from somewhere. "What's that?" Cole asks.
"Cute tiny birds?" Jay sarcastically says.
"Did you see that?" Kai asks.
"I don't see anything," I say.
"I just saw it too. Treehorns!" Cole replies.
"Intruder. Intruder." A robot twitches.
"Oh, great. I think that thing was supposed to protect this place. Guys, it's up to us. Ninja, g—ugh. Ow!" Kai yells, and we all charge and we think we're winning at first. Which, we were, then we suddenly got overpowered.
"There's just too many of them. " Cole grunts, having being put into a tight squeeze by the Treehorns. They were playing with him like a Whack-A-Mole at the arcade and it wasn't the fun kind of Whack-A-Mole. We were getting pushed around, and it wasn't fun.
"Hey, guys. Wait up!" Zane calls out for us, opening the door. Once he sees us getting our butts handed to us by some weird-looking trees he snaps, actually, not really. He just starts fighting. "Leave my friends alone! Ninja, go!" He starts fighting like there's no tomorrow.
"What's gotten into Zane?" I ask.
"I don't know, but I like it," Kai says, rushing towards the fight.
"Ninja, go!" We all yell, doing Spinjitzu. My face whirled in a flurry of bright silver energy as we all fight the Treehorns. Suddenly, they all turn back as a much louder roar sounds across the clearing.
"Are they regrouping? Who's that?" Jay fires question after question at Zane, who stares off to where the sound came from, undisturbed.
"The queen," Zane says. "You will not hurt my friends. There is nothing that will hold me back. I know who I am." Zane steps forward, and a blinding blue light surrounds him. His body, everything turns light blue as he floats up and starts fighting the queen. I gasp. So this is what True Potential looks like.
"What's happening to him? Was he programmed to do that?" Kai asks.
"I've never seen a robot do that." Cole marvels.
"You mean Nindroid." Jay corrects.
"Yeah, whatever." Cole retorts.
"Zane's unlocked his True Potential," I say. And Zane freezes the queen. He falls to the ground and we all rush to him.
"What happened?" Zane asks, rubbing his head.
"That was awesome!" Jay cries.
"You should've seen yourself," Kai says.
"Heh, I've never seen anything like it," Cole says.
"This must be what Sensei meant by unlocking our hearts. I remember now. I remember everything. I remember my father and how he cared for me. I remember where I came from. And I feel stronger for knowing." Zane explains how he got his True Potential.
"I'm so jealous. His powers are so cool." Cole says.
"We have our very own Nindroid." Jay gushes.
"Congrats good sir, you are the first one to receive True Potential!" I mock bow and then hug Zane. "I'm glad you came to your senses brother."
"I'm the first one?" Zane asks.
"Duh! I haven't gotten my True Potential yet!" I say.
"I thought you already did!" Jay says.
"Well, spoiler alert motormouth, I have not." I retort.
"Watch out, Pythor. We're coming to get you." Zane looks ahead.
