Darkness Shall Rise
Kaylee's POV
"Ugh, finally. All fixed up and Serpentine free." Cole groans pulling up a lamppost. I use my elemental rope thingy I decided to make my full-time weapon, and hold it in place.
"Aargh. Ugh, this is frustrating!" Kai huffs, throwing his arms up, and accidentally hit me. "Sorry Kaylee."
"That's fine," I say, a little dizzy. "You have a mean swing there."
"Aah!" The lamppost falls over since my rope disappeared the moment I got distracted.
"Our weapons are gone and most of our elemental powers are gone. I mean, we can still do Spinjitzu, but... I just feel so, I don't know, limited. And thanks to the Devourer, our tank's out of commission, our Dragon's hurt, and now the Bounty is destroyed, we don't even have a place to sleep." Kai sighs.
"No one ever said being a hero is easy. Though our good deeds may never make us rich, they make us rich in other ways." Zane informs.
"Yeah, well, I don't feel rich." Kai snaps half-heartedly.
"Ugh. I for one enjoy pitching in. I've always wanted to feel part of a community." Jay fixes the lamppost. "Uh, speaking of which, anyone seen Nya? She said she was gonna help." Jay asks looking around.
"There she is!" I yell, pointing to her.
"And I have. I may have found us a place to live." Nya replies.
"Really? But there's a waiting list a mile long to live in Ninjago City. How did you do that?" Jay asks.
"I know a guy, who knows a girl, and she knows this girl who knows a guy. Well, this guy knows a girl who's a real estate agent and she can help you find a place if you catch my drift." She hands Jay a flyer.
"You sure do know a lot of important people huh?" I comment.
"And where are you off to?" Jay asks.
"We have to find a couple of components to fix the Ninja tank. And my dragon ointment has finally arrived. It's a day's trip, but once we get back, he'll be flying again. Also, I love scenic drives. Haha, punch it, Nya!" Sensei cheers.
"Ay ay, Sensei." Nya obliges.
"Yee-haw!" They both drive away.
"Patty Keys, Real Estate Queen. Huh, this is exactly what we need. Once we get a roof over our head, we can start properly training Lloyd." Jay smiles.
"Good, 'cause if we know Lord Garmadon, he's not going to be taking any breaks. And let's not forget, the Serpentine are still at large." Cole nods. We go and get Lloyd from the hotel area we were staying at, and go find this Patty Keys. Once we do, she shows a run-down apartment.
"This one-bedroom, one-half-bath is a cozy dream. Who needs extras when everything is in arm's reach? Now, wait until you see the lighting." Patty turns on the light, but the lightbulb explodes. "Uh, who needs lights when you have this view?" She opens the curtains to reveal a brick wall. "Heh."
"Uh, why do I smell old people?" Lloyd asks.
"Look, doll. I'm trying to work around your budget. This is all you can afford." Patty snaps.
"Uh, this looks...promising. Remember, guys, Sensei told us our main objective is to train Lloyd, not kick our feet up in some swanky suite. If this is all we can afford, this is all we can afford." Cole looks around.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, let's not rush into any decision. I mean, if it's really all about Lloyd, don't we need to live in someplace that'll make training easier?" Jay asks.
"Yeah, Jay's right. If we have to get Lloyd and Kaylee ready to save Ninjago from his father, shouldn't they at least have their own room?" Kai adds.
"Technically, that does not matter, they only-" Zane butts in.
"We're only thinking about the children, hehe." Jay cuts in.
"I do have another property that you'll just love," Patty replies. We take an elevator up to a swanky suite, as Cole put it.
"Whoa!" The guys, and Lloyd gasp.
"Oh, man." Jay wows.
"Now, this is the eight-bedroom Hero Suite. Floor-to-ceiling windows, digital wall television, state-of-the-art game console..." Patty points to the video games, and the windows with a magnificent view outside, perfect for looking at the stars and sunrises or sunsets.
"Uh, it seems a little out of our price range." Cole hesitates.
"Oh, sure it costs a little more, but you deserve it. I forgot to mention, there's also a Dragon keep on the roof." Patty smiles.
"Nice." Kai compliments.
"Maybe we can get a hero discount. After all, we are the Ninja who saved the city." Jay boasts.
"I thought Lord Garmadon saved the city," Patty says.
"Hmmph." Jay huffs.
"We could get day jobs to pay for the extra expenses." Kai helps.
"We always said we could use a little more responsibility." Zane agrees.
"But you have to train Lloyd!" I cut in.
"Did I mention the in-house training facility?" Patty opens up a training facility.
"We'll take it!" The guys say, and I slap my forehead. We all take a night's rest, and then bright and early, the guys set out.
"So, uh, what do you wanna do?" Lloyd asks, a faint blush on his cheeks. I pretend not to notice.
"I don't care, video games?" I suggest.
"Sure." Lloyd hands me a control.
"What a gentleman." I joke.
"Well, thank milady!" Lloyd plays along.
"Dragon Keep?" I ask.
"Sure." Lloyd agrees.
~Time Skip~
The guys had just gotten back from work. I sit on one of the window seats near the windows obviously, looking at them. Lloyd was next to me.
"My feet...I can't feel my feet." Cole moans.
"There were so many of them. And they wouldn't stop." Kai groans.
"Ugh, my gears locked up several times. I didn't even know my gears could lock up." Zane oils his gears.
"Well, you learn something new everyday I guess." I shrug.
"I don't even have enough energy to play video games." Jay stutters.
"Oh, but I thought you were going to train me when you got home," Lloyd asks.
"Sorry, champ, but we can't until we make rent. How close are we, Jay?" Cole apologies.
"Huh, is this jar getting bigger? We're not even close!" Jay moans in defeat.
"And our rent is due tomorrow." Zane realizes.
"I can pull a double shift." Cole offers.
"And I can do overtime," Zane informs.
"Maybe, I can sling a few more pizza pies." Jay agrees.
"And maybe I can make a little extra if I do the human piñata," Kai says, and we all look at him. "Ugh, don't ask."
"Great, then our priorities are set. Tomorrow we make rent." Cole decides.
"And uh, what about us?" Lloyd asks.
"How about you help out and fetch me some more ice, huh?" Cole gestures to the bucket of ice.
"Somehow, I know we're all going to regret this." I sigh.
~Time Skip~
"Whoa. Ha! Haha. Ugh." Lloyd moves around, as we both played video games. "Wha-"
"Hello, little kids." I gasp and look out of the window, to see Skales.
"Help, us!" Lloyd cries as he ran to the door and tried to get it open.
"Door is locked." The system replies.
"Ugh, I know. I want it open!" Lloyd yells. "What do you want with us?" Lloyd yells, and I form a defensive stance by him.
"You ssseem to be the only thing your father cares about. But with you in my hostage, he'll have no other choice but to let me lead the Serpentine! Hyah!" Skales charges but I stop him.
"You're not taking my best friend!" I roar furiously.
"Sloppy. Don't rely so hard on your feelingsss young girl." Skales hisses. I swing my rope and it latches unto his hand, but he does some weird hand movement, and I am sent flying away. I hit a potted plant.
"Aah! Kaylee!" Lloyd yells.
"Let'sss train," Skales smirks.
"Hello? What's going on in there?" Sensei arrives.
"Help!" We both yell.
Sensei breaks down the door and quickly stops Skales, and we go and turn him into the police. As I heal my cut above my head, the aftermath of me slamming into the potted plant.
"You okay?" Lloyd asks.
"Of course!" I smile.
"That's good." Lloyd looks sadly down at his feet. Sensei and Nya were finishing up the last steps in whatever takes to get a Serpentine in jail or whatever.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I ask, slinging an arm around him.
"I just, I don't know, feel so, useless! I should have stopped Skales when I had the chance." Lloyd groans.
"It wasn't your fault Lloyd, you weren't even trained! You couldn't have done anything." I reassure him.
"But you got hurt! You're my best friend, I can't stand to see you hurt!" Lloyd moans.
"And now I'm okay. Stop blaming yourself. I would have never forgiven myself if you got captured again." I scold. "Soon, you'll be able to protect me Romeo." I joke, nudging him playfully.
"Haha, yeah. I hope so." We follow Sensei and Nya to the car, and back to the apartment. Sensei told us to stay in a closet, near the door as the guys charged in, looking around frantically.
"Lloyd? Kaylee?" Kai yells.
"They're not here," Zane informs.
"Oh, we shouldn't have left them." Kai groans.
"We shouldn't have taken those jobs in the first place. What were we thinking? Losing Lloyd and Kaylee was by far our greatest loss. We lost them once already!" Cole moans.
"But it could be your greatest lesson." Sensei ushers us out.
"Lloyd! Kaylee!" The guys ran to hug us.
"You're okay!" Kai gasps.
"We weren't going to be, until Nya and Sensei showed up at the last moment," I say. "I got rammed into a potted plant." I chuckle nervously.
"I go away for a day and everything falls apart." Nya dryly jokes.
"I guess you could say we learned we don't need all the fancy stuff. We just need each other." Kai smiles.
"You want us to help you clean up?" Sensei offers.
"Well, we are a team." Kai starts.
"Nya, I think it's time for another road trip." Sensei jokes.
"Hold on, I got a better idea." Cole smiles. We start moving our stuff into a truck and then start loading into the first house that Patty showed us. The house that we could actually afford. "It's not much, but this one-bedroom, one-half-bath is a cozy dream. Who needs extras when everything is in arm's reach?"
"Hey!" Lloyd accidentally bumps into Jay, causing him to drop the box on Kai's toes.
"Ow, ow, ow!" Kai yelps, jumping around, holding his toes.
"Ha, feels like home to me. At least we get to stay in Ninjago City for a little while." I laugh.
"And now without the distractions, we can put all of our energy into training Lloyd," Zane replies as Lloyd bumps into him with a chair.
"Who's there?" He yells. Zane chuckles and helps him lift the chair.
"I know the Serpentine Generals got away, but you never told us: whatever happened to Skales?" Kai asks.
"Oh, he found a home, too. But it's not quite as roomy as here." Sensei laughs.
Yes I made her like looking at stars, sunsets, and sunrises. I'm a sucker for The Outsiders okay? Anyways, hope you like it, and I will be skipping Ninjaball Run and Wrong Place, Wrong Time, BUT I will be summarizing what I planned to happen in those episodes because I don't think a lot of people do that, and I don't like how I skip things I hate, because I'm scared something will happen that's important and I missed it. Also, if I don't have any creative names for the chapter, it will be the episode name :). Sorry for rambling but, I hope you enjoy :).
