Child's Play

Kaylee's POV

"Happy birthday Lloyd!" We all cheer, as Lloyd walks into the room.

"Huh, what! Oh wow! Thanks, guys!" Lloyd smiles.

"We couldn't get much for you, but Zane did make cake and pancakes." Kai gestures to the table. "Hope you like it."

"Pancakes are my favorite! Thanks, guys!"

"Let's eat then. I and Kaylee have a surprise for you all later." Nya says.

"Awesome! Then training, right?" Lloyd excitedly eats his pancakes.

"Yup. Since now you're 11, maybe we can try some more basic 101 moves." Zane suggests.

"Of course!"

We all sing the Happy Birthday song to Lloyd, and he blows out the candles, after that, we lead everyone to the bridge.

"So, since you guys like video games, we took the liberty of starting a video game setting on the screen." I point to the screen where usually the map would be at.

"Awesome! When can it be used?" Lloyd asks.

"There are a few kinks in the consoles, but probably once you're done with training." Nya answers.

After the guys leave, I and Nya start working on the kinks I mentioned before.

"Alright, it should be ready to play now." I finish the last few controls then a phone call came in. Nya answers it. She runs out the door.

"Guys, there's been a break-in at the Ninjago City Museum of History and the security cameras picked up you-know-who." She says, panic evident in her voice.

"Garmadon!" Cole snarls.

"We have to stop him before he uses the Mega Weapon to start another one of the diabolical plots." The guys get ready to go. I and Lloyd look at them eagerly.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. We can't go and it's safer if we stay here and train." Lloyd sighs and the guys make sounds of agreement.

"We'll meet up at the Bounty as soon as we're done." Kai hops in the Raider.

"We'll be waiting for your safe return." Nya agrees.

"Too old for comic books and too young to fight. When are they gonna make up their minds?" Lloyd sighs.

"Come on, pint-size. Show me what you got." Nya smirks.

"While you guys are doing that, I'll be on the bridge, reading my book." I walk away.

~Time Skip (I love these things)~

"Oh, they should be back by now." Nya looks out into the distance. It was the next morning, and the guys still haven't come back yet.

"Oh, I fear something horrible has happened to them. Lloyd, Kaylee, you're in charge of the Bounty while Nya and I have a look around town." Sensei looks at us, and we quickly switch our selective books into the old history book that Lloyd and I were supposed to read.

"Uh, yeah. Sure thing." They leave. "Okay, Fritz Donogan, looks like it's just gonna be you, me, Kaylee, and the imperial sludge." He smiles.

"I was wondering if you wanna play video games together, but if you don't wanna that's..." I walk off, smiling.

"Wait, I was just rereading the book, let's go!" Lloyd runs after me.

I turn on the console and go to Dragon Keep's main screen.

"Wow, this is amazing, you're amazing!" Lloyd smiles, as he picks up a controller.

"T-t-thanks," I stutter, a light blush on my cheeks.

"Uh-huh." Lloyd focuses on the game. We laugh, as we dodge and blow up obstacles on the way. The phone rings.

"You pick it up, I'm too far away," I say, and Lloyd sighs and tries to reach for the phone. It falls.

"Destiny's Bounty." He answers in a monotone voice, still focusing on the video game.

"Lloyd, it's Jay! Let me talk to Sensei!" Jay's voice yells. It was a little more, high-pitched than usual.

"Jay? Where are you? Why haven't you returned? Sensei's out looking for you." I say, setting down my controller after my dragon died and walking over to the phone.

"Apparently, you need parental permission to take the bus and we can't seem to get out of the city!" Jay snaps.

"Uh, what?" We look at each other weirdly. The guys are old enough to pass as adults so why can't they get out of town?

"Oh, never mind, it's a bit complicated. Just meet us at Buddy's Pizza in ten minutes. And bring our weapons."

"Weapons?" Lloyd tilts his seat too far forward, and he falls. Jay hangs up.

"You okay?" I ask, helping him up. He nods, then looks away. I stare at our intertwined hands and blush. "Of all of the places, he could have chosen, why Buddy's Pizza." I sigh, letting go of his hand to get their respective weapons. We take Ultra down to Buddy's Pizza.

"Really? Of all places we could meet, you pick this place?" A young voice whispers as we walk in.

"What? I like their pizza." The other one defends.

"Psst, Lloyd." We turn our heads to a bunch of kids, who look suspiciously like the guys.

"Beat it, brat. I'm on a mission." Lloyd walks away.

"Lloyd! That counts as being mean! Sorry guys." I walk away but the person who called for Lloyd grabs apart of Lloyd gi.

"It's me, Kai." Kai hisses.

"Whoa! What happened? You're, uh, uh, small!" He yells, and everyone looks at us, then turns away. I stare, mouth gaping at the sight before us. The guys were about our age, with a slight problem. They're not.

"Keep it down. We're trying to lay low. Your father's Mega Weapon not only to turn us into kids but unleashed a creature whose sole purpose is to hunt down Ninja." Kai informs us.

"Typical Garmadon." Cole fumes.

"And now, every time we try to tell someone, they won't believe us, 'cause we're kids." Jay sighs. I and Lloyd look at each other before laughing.

"What's so funny?" Kai snaps.

"Well, I guess you now know what it feels like to be treated differently," Lloyd explains.

"Look, this is serious. If we don't turn big so that we can use our Spinjitzu, we don't stand a chance against the Grundle." Zane exclaims.

"Well, what about us? We know Spinjitzu." I say.

"Yeah, but you don't know the Grundle. We all need to be at full strength. What we need to do first is to find someone who might know more about how to defeat one of those things." I listen in on their conversation.

"Lloyd, focus." Cole sighs.

"I am. I think I know just the guy." Lloyd smirks. Lloyd brings us to a place called "Doomsday Comics".

"You brought us to a comic book store?" Cole snaps.

"Trust me. If there's anyone who knows how to defeat a monster that doesn't exist, I know just the person to talk to." Lloyd smiles.

"We're not coming to pick out your stupid comic, Lloyd! This is serious business." Kai fumes.

"Oh, look. A first edition "Daffy Dale." I used to love that nut growing up." Jay clears his throat. "So juvenile."

"Fellas, meet Rufus MacAllister, AKA Mother Doomsday." He shows us to a guy with a ponytail and beard.

"Well, if it isn't Lloyd 'Hemorrhoid' Garmadon. Sorry if you came looking for the latest 'Starfarer,' I'm all sold out." He says.

"Wh-Sold out?" I discreetly nudge him. "Oh, actually, Mother Doomsday, we need help," Lloyd says.

"Well, color me intrigued," Rufus replies.

"We have a problem. There's a Grundle on the loose and we need to know how to deal with it." Lloyd informs.

"Oh, a theoretical question." Rufus misunderstands.

"Yeah, theoretical. Can you help?" Lloyd plays along.

"Dromaseric theropod grundalicus. Phew! Although extinct, there has been a plethora of film, television, and comics exploring the mythology around the primordial predator. Supposedly, they always get their prey." Rufus shows us a comic of the Grundle. I think those were around when Sensei was a little kid.

"Sounds like he knows his stuff." Kai comments.

"Can it be stopped?" I ask.

"First thing you need to know is its thick shell-like hide is invincible to swords, scythes, nunchucks, and throwing stars. So your cheap imitations will do nothing to slow him down." Rufus points at the guy's weapons.

"Swell." Cole stutters nervously.

"Second of all, it's nocturnal and will only hunt at night."

"Oh, good. It's still daylight, so we can relax for a bit." Rufus gives Jay a weird look. "Uh, I meant theoretically."

"And the only way to defeat it is with light. Like a vampire, with enough of it, it could potentially destroy him. If I had my weapons of choice, may I recommend the Illumisword? These are authentic replicas that would come in handy were you to live long enough to actually face a Grundle. And if swords are your thing, maybe I can interest you in an authentic ninja gi, signed by the very Ninja that saved the city." He points to the Ninja gis and weird lightsaber looking things. What? I kinda like Star Wars.

"Uh, we'll just take the light swords." Kai reaches for the swords but is stopped by Rufus.

"Not so fast. This 'Starfarer' combo pack can only be won in the Fritz Donogan Trivia Battle Royale. You have what it takes to be the best?" Rufus asks.

"You can do this, Lloyd." Jay hypes Lloyd up.

"Sign me up," Lloyd smirks.

~Time Skip!~

3rd Person POV

"It's down to the final two. This question is for Lloyd." Rufus points to the final two competitors, Lloyd, and another boy.

"Lloyd! Lloyd! Lloyd!" The crowd hypes Lloyd up.

"What is Fritz Donogan's famous catchphrase?" Rufus asks.

"Fear? Fear isn't a word from where I come from!" Lloyd dramatically says.

"Correct! We're all tied up." The crowd cheers.

"It's getting dark. The Grundle will be on the prowl soon." Zane whispers.

"Don't worry. I got faith Lloyd can win those Illumiswords." Kaylee smiles. They hear slurping sounds coming from the right, and see Jay, eating cotton candy.

"Is this really the best time to be eating cotton candy?" Kai asks.

"It makes me feel young. Deal with it." Jay retorts.

"Final question. The first person to answer this will win. In the latest issue of 'Starfarer,' how did Fritz Donogan escape the imperial sludge?" Rufus smirks.

"But I haven't read the latest issue." Lloyd sighs.

"By reversing the polarity of the ship's gravity transducer." He answers.

"We have a winner!" The ninja sigh and Kaylee gives a sad half-smile. The shop shakes, and the light turns off.

"Who shut off the power?" Rufus asks.

"It's here." Kai gasps.

"What's here?"

"You know that theoretical discussion we had earlier?" Jay nervously asks.

"Not the..." A large, red monster gets on the roof. "Grundle!"

"We've got to get out of here," Zane yells, and everyone runs to the door, which had a sign in front of it. "The door is jammed, we can't get out."

"Look! It's coming!" Kaylee points to the Grundle, who has fallen in the store, glass shards flying everywhere.

"We're doomed!" Jay yells.

"Doomed as Britts Subskian in "Phoenix War" page 15!" Rufus stutters

"Quick! This way!" Jay points to the ninja gis and Illumiswords. They quickly change into it and stand in front of the Grundle.

"Hey, McNasty, I thought Ninja were on your menu!" Cole taunts.

"It's working!" The ninja lights the sticks up and whacks the Grundle. Kai, Zane, and Jay's Illumiswords break.

"Stupid toy." Cole shakes his Illumisword.

"Uh oh!" Zane yells as the guys get whipped to the broken cash register.

"Oh. We got a problem, guys." Jay blurts.

"Not to worry, we'll take care of this." Lloyd uses a chair to step up to face the grundle, human to dinosaur style. Kaylee latches on the Grundle, holding it in place with her elemental rope. Lloyd starts powering up an energy ball to throw at the Grundle, but it just swings its tail, and throws Kaylee, knocking her into Lloyd. They then both fall off of the cash register.

"Lloyd! Kaylee!" The 4 ninja yell.

"Oh, gross!" Kai exclaims, staring at the green goo that was the Grundle's saliva.

"This is the end, isn't it?" Cole sighs.

"Everyone out!" Nya kicks down the down, a determined expression on her face.

"Use this!" Sensei Wu tosses the can of tomorrow's tea to Jay.

"What is it?" Jay yells.

"It'll turn forward the hands of time, turning you old and reducing the Grundle back to dust and bones. But be careful, there's no turning back." Sensei Wu informs.

"Grundle, prepare to be extinct!" Jay declares, lifting up the can of tomorrow's tea.

"No, wait!" Cole lifts his Illumisword, making the Grundle rear back. "What will happen to Lloyd and Kaylee? They'll grow old, too."

"Just do it!" Lloyd and Kaylee yell at the same time.

"You'll miss out on the rest of your childhood, guy!" Jay reasons.

"We can't do that to you. It's not fair!" Kai retorts.

"Oh, no!" The 4 ninjas get knocked over and the can of tomorrow's tea lands on Lloyd's lap. He looks at Kaylee, and she quickly nods.

"Fair? Fair isn't a word from where I come from!" He yells, throwing the tin at the Grundle.

"He used it!" Sensei Wu gasps. The Grundle starts spinning, skin being ripped off of it in a flurry of sand.

"And it's working!" Nya watches as the pile of bones clatter to the ground.

"What happened? We're not kids anymore." Cole, Kai, Jay, and Zane stand up, back to normal.

"It worked!" Nya cheers.

"They are the real Ninja." Rufus gasps, having seen the whole ordeal.

"But what about Lloyd and Kaylee?" Sensei Wu asks and rustling sounds as Kaylee and Lloyd both stand-up, older. This time, Lloyd's old bowl-cut had turned into a messy hairstyle, he was slightly more muscular, the slight chubbiness he had as a child, gone. He was now a whopping 5 feet and 8 inches, about the same height as most of the guys now. Kaylee, on the other hand, was a bit flat-chested and flat-bottomed but had a curvy and petite figure nonetheless. She was 5 feet and 3 inches, making her the shortest member of the team. Both of their eyes still had that same mischievous, youthful sparkle as before, serving as a reminder that they weren't that age.

"We're...older." Lloyd and Kaylee gap at each other, shock evident in their eyes, and in all of the other people around them.

"The time for the Green Ninja to face his destiny has grown nearer." Sensei Wu says.

"We're ready." Kaylee and Lloyd say in unison. They walk out of the already destroyed store, waiting for Lloyd.

"You got a pretty nice glow-up girl! We have to go shopping tomorrow!" Nya exclaims.

"Heh, thanks," Kaylee says, unsteady on her feet.

"What you did there was brave. You gave up your whole childhood to save all of us. Thanks." Zane smiles at his now older not-sister.

"Nah, I never really had a childhood." Kaylee smiles as Lloyd catches up to the group on the Bounty.

"Hey, at least I'm taller than you and older," Lloyd smirks.

"You are so mean!" Kaylee snaps.

"I need you all on the bridge. We need to know how much did Kayle and Lloyd age." Sensei says.

"Aye, aye Sensei!" The ninja and Nya say.

"There comes a time when we all must grow up. When that time comes, it's important not to forget the lessons of our childhood because our childhood is the greatest training one can ever have. Yes, the time until the final battle has grown shorter, but the Green Ninja has grown stronger."

*Cue epic Avengers Endgame music* So uh, I have decided not to do a chapter on Wrong Place, Wrong Time, and just do a short recap :)
