Chapter 30: Battle Plan

Silver snarled, debating whether to run or not. When she looked down at her father however she decided that it was time to face Iraliene. She didn't care what the life dragon said, she was leaving Sky Mountain. With a snort she descended down to where the other unconscious metal dragon was laying, wing splayed out like a large target. She landed beside him and stared up in defiance as the large life dragon followed her.

Raize and Zepos landed beside her. The electric dragon landed and nuzzled her, glad she was okay. He hadn't seen the fight but by the state of the mountains around the area he knew it had been quite intense. Silver nuzzled him slightly back, but kept her gaze on Iraliene.

"Are you okay?" asked the lightning dragon.

"Yeah. A few cracked ribs, and that's about it," Silver smiled slightly.

"Raize said you took quite the beating," Zepos replied.

Silver nodded, "Just a little. I'll be fine though."

Even as she said it she felt herself leaning against Zepos for support. Now that the fight was over and her adrenaline rush had dissipated she felt the full throttle of pain shoot back through her. Her breathing was laboured and the salty tang of dragon blood was beginning to fill her mouth. A small groan escaped her and the metal shell retracted to its original state.

Zepos felt guilty, looking over her bloodied legs and sides. If he hadn't been knocked out so easily they could have managed to defeat Elron without her getting badly injured, and be gone by the time Iraliene managed to find them. If only he had reacted faster at the start of the fight.

The large green dragoness landed with a thud in front of them, glaring with anger in her eyes. She opened her mouth, ready to yell at the young dragons for daring to defy her, but when she saw the unconscious body of Elron lying belly up and unconscious she closed her mouth, staring in surprise.

"What?" were the words that came out, "Is that who I think it is?"

"Yes," Raize stepped forward, "That is Elron. The first metallic dragon, first dragon to ever escape A.O.D.H, leader of Dragon Valley and our father."

Iraliene blinked, suddenly at a loss for words. She hadn't expected them to be able to defeat the metallic dragon, and what's more there was no device stuck between his horns. At further examination she noticed that it was laying a couple of metres away with a hole blown in its side.

The other dragons landed around them. There were about a hundred of them, with every single species in their midst, though most were common dragons. Gravon was there to, and he slaughtered up to him, glancing at the unconscious dragon warily. He hadn't realised Elron was so big. Wasn't he only eighteen years in age?

"How did you free him?" Iraliene demanded.

Raize snorted, "We don't have to tell you anything."

Her eyes narrowed, "Do you remember what happened last time you refused to give us information young one? It will not be difficult to do so again."

The fire drake stepped back, a little nervous. When the mind dragon had sorted through his mind, he had nearly screamed. It had hurt, a lot, especially with him bringing up memories that weren't exactly his to take. When he had found the information he had stayed in his head a little longer, before drawing out and leaving Raize weak and lightheaded.

"If you electrocute the device with enough power it overloads and short-circuits. After that it is a simple matter to take it off," Silver spoke, and coughed afterwards, spitting out a glob of blood.

Iraliene frowned, a little worried for the silver dragon. She took a step forward, studying her wounds. They didn't look to bad, though if she was coughing up blood that meant there was an internal injury, which could be far worse. The life dragon gathered a little of her power and breathed it over Silver, healing all her scrapes, broken bones and restoring the energy that she had lost. Silver breathed a sigh of relief and stood up straighter, no longer needing Zepos to hold her. She nodded her thanks to the life dragoness.

Iraliene then turned toward Elron and did the same, healing him through the armour he still had. His jaw was fixed and the other gashes and wounds Silver had created sealed up, though none of them could see the energy at work. A few moments later Elron groaned and opened his red eyes. Seeing the dragons he quickly rolled to his feet and growled, before realising that his movements were no longer being controlled.

"What... how?" he raised his tail and touched the place between his horns where the device had been.

"Dad!" Silver smiled as she padded up to him, nuzzling him, "Your free again."

He nuzzled her back, still surprised. He let out a small laugh, remembering the fight that they had just been through. He remembered the surge of electricity through him, and had an idea of how they managed to break the device off his head. Raize leapt toward them, embracing his dad as well and the large metallic dragon chuckled, holding his children close with his wings.

"You two are amazing," he said, letting the armour around him return to normal.

"I know," Raize replied with a smirk.

Silver swatted him over the head lightly with her tail and stepped back. Raize let out a playful growl. He seemed far happier then usual, nearly giddy. If he was as glad as Silver was to have their father back then she wasn't surprised. Both of them had missed him dearly.

"I'm sorry to spoil this for you," said Iraliene, sounding anything but sorry, "But we have a far greater threat to deal with. Namely the A.O.D.H army converging on THIS VERY LOCATION!" She took a big breath, seeming to be trying to control her rage, "I would like to be back in the safety of my mountain before then."

"That's a bad idea," said Elron.

"What?"

"If we go back to Sky Mountain then they will surely find it. We... they... haven't found the mountain yet. If we head back their now, yes, we will be safe within the confines of the mountain, but this army is just a scouting team. Once they actually find your base they will send all of their strength to try and capture it," he said, "So, we have to make our stand here, make sure they don't get to the mountain."

"But what about all of us?" Iraliene growled, "I'm not going to risk some of the rarest and most powerful dragons from Sky Mountain."

"You risk them anyway. In fact, you risk them far more if we go back to the mountain," Elron said, "If we fight them off now then we may have a chance of stopping them before they reach the mountain, which will by us more time in the future."

Iraliene hesitated, not finding an argument against the metal dragon. It angered her profusely, "Well, then what do you propose?"

As Elron and Iraliene continued to argue Silver noticed that Raize seemed to be deep in thought. Her brother looked to the sky, then at Gravon, then at her and Zepos, and his eyes brightened. He nudged his father in the side, but Elron was to focused on coming up with an idea for defence.

Silver ducked under her father to Raize, "What's up?"

"I have an idea, and it just might work as well," he said, "I just need to know some things for it to work."

She nodded and turned to the two leaders. She opened her maw and let out a metallic roar like two gongs clashing together. Both Elron and Iraliene nearly jumped in surprise and looked down at the silver dragoness to see what was going on.

"Raize has an idea," Silver said.

"Thanks," he grinned at her before stepping forward.

Iraliene snorted, "Let's here it youngling."

Raize took a deep breath, "Okay, what type of machines are they using dad?"

Elron seemed a little surprised at the question but replied, "They are humanoid machines. They're made out of elronium, so they are quite robust and extremely hard to break. There is usually a human inside controlling it. It's like giant robotic armour. They have planes and dragons as well of course."

"Elronium?"

"The name they gave a metallic dragon's metal."

"Oh, and their numbers?"

"Around three hundred."

"Okay, that's all I needed to know," he turned to Iraliene, "We will need a gravity dragon and as many electric dragons as you have with you, and bait. Two metallic dragons would be quite irresistible I would think."

"What are you getting at?" frowned Iraliene.

The troublesome grin that Silver knew so well formed on her brothers face, "Here's what we need to do."

* * *

Silver flew through the mountain range at a swift pace, searching for any sign of the enemy before her. At her flanks were two other dragons. A mind dragon named Buri, and Celestia who had chosen to come with Iraliene, despite the fact that she still had her eggs to look after. It was the first time in a while Silver and the light dragon had been able to actually spend some time together, even if it was for a risky purpose.

'There's a group just up ahead,' the mind dragon spoke to the two of them telepathically, 'Land at this mountain just ahead.'

The three dragons landed on a small ledge and crept forward. Silver made no effort to dull her shell. The idea was to be seen. The problem was the day was a little overcast, blocking the sun from shining from Silver's shell. But that was where Celestia came in.

The dragonesses looked around the mountainside and Celestia growled in surprise. Flying slowly through the valley was a formation of about five giant robot looking machines, each one slightly bigger then the average ten year old dragon. They looked bulky, and not all that fast, but the familiar glint of what Silver now knew as 'elronium' was what made her hesitate in judging their capabilities too fast. They may look slow, but their armour was light and the strongest on earth.

"You ready?" Silver asked the two dragons she was with.

They each nodded their heads. Taking a deep breath Silver stepped slightly into the open. The light dragon opened her maw and let a small trickle of light come from within. It struck Silver's shell, making it shine brilliantly over the mountainside. As soon as it was done she ducked back behind the mountain and looked at the mind dragon expectantly.

Buri frowned, and then smiled, "They saw it, and their coming. They have contacted the rest the group, and have been ordered to follow you and capture you if they can. More are coming though, faster ones as well, so we better get going."

The three dragons leapt from the cliff ledge and began to wing their way back to where they had set their trap. Silver had no doubt that at some other point in the mountains her father had been seen as well, and now they were flying back to the exact point in which they had left. The whole plan amounted on them getting back to that small set of mountains.

Silver didn't try to go extremely fast, knowing that they would quite easily loose them if they did. Buri was keeping a close watch on the humans however, making sure they always knew exactly where the dragons were. More machines were beginning to join them as well, and when the mind dragon told them to fly a bit faster they complied.

'Turn now!' he suddenly yelled, 'They're coming down in front of us!'

Silver and Celestia instantly turned to the right, not loosing any speed as they did so, and flew between two mountains before righting their course once again. They would have to take a little bit of a detour but it wouldn't add to much longer onto their flight time.

As they reached the familiar set of mountains Silver felt her heart begin to increase. If this plan that Raize had set were to work then everything needed to happen at the right time. As she passed between two of the mountains Buri and Celestia broke off, flying into two different caves on opposite sides, leaving Silver to herself as she flew into the centre of a ring of mountains.

On the other side Elron swooped in. He snorted when he saw his daughter. They had made a bet before they left, that each one would reach the valley before the other. It seemed Silver had won the race, but only by a small amount. They met each other in the middle and grinned at each other.

"Ready?" asked Elron.

"As I'll ever be," Silver said, nervousness peaking through her.

Besides A.O.D.H's attack a year and a half ago, this would be Silver's first major battle, and if everything went to plan it could be over within the hour, and even if it didn't work quite so well, it would be a simple matter to destroy what remained of the army. She glanced over to her father. He was scanning the mountain range intensely, seeming to not be worrying much at all about what was going to happen.

As soon as the first plane flew into the valley both Elron and Silver let their shells fall down over themselves, leaving two fully shielded metal dragons to face the army all themselves. Following that first plane another came, and then another, and another. They began to circle the dragons, as if waiting for something. The father and daughter made no effort to move however, satisfied to wait until every single A.O.D.H machine was compacted into the valley.

The humanoid machines came in next, and instead of joining with the circling planes they went straight into attack mode. Flying toward the two dragons. Silver and Elron move this time, dodging the first attack by splitting up and coming back together. Silver sent a volley of tail spikes into one of the robots and Elron launches a metallic ball from his maw with enough velocity to dent another.

'Make sure to stay together,' said an unknown mind dragon, 'There is still more coming.'

'How many more?' growled Silver, ripping her claws through another machine.

'Not to many,' was the rather annoying reply.

Sighing she did as she was told and father and daughter fought together, staying as close to each other as possible and making sure to stay in the centre of it all. More machines began to pile in, and a few dragons as well. They were not extremely rare dragons. There was an acid dragon, but that was about as exotic as the dragons got.

'And the plan is being conducted.... now,' said the mind dragon.

As soon as he said that Silver felt a strong force act upon her, and the two metallic dragons suddenly magnetised to each other. They both grunted in surprise, even though they were expecting it. However that is not the only thing that happened. The machines, planes, and even the dragons began to fall toward them. Cries of surprise echoed from the human pilots and roars were exiting the dragons as they struggled to fly away from the two metallic dragons, but it was no use.

"This is gonna hurt," Elron grinned slightly.

"Great," murmured Silver, and braced herself.

The first robot hit them with a surprising amount of velocity. The metal dragons were knocked away from the centre, but instead of falling to the ground they simply swung back around and ended back in exactly the same spot. Another robot crashed into them, and then another, and then another until they were surrounded by a ball of flailing machines. A wind dragon came next, crashing into one of the robots. Soon after that even the planes were drawn toward the new gravitational force that was combining them all together in one massive metallic ball.

Planes crushed a few of the unluckier dragons as the machines ran right into them. Explosions were common around the edge and a few of the robots in the centre of the ball were beginning to flatten under the pressure around them. In the very centre the two metallic dragons were beginning to struggle with the pressure, but their armour was holding and it would take a bit more to break it.

Outside the ball, on top of one of the mountains, was Gravon. His wings were raised and he was shaking slightly as he focused on the ball. He teeth were bared as he used his power to create the small planet. It was exhausting him, and he wouldn't be able to hold out for much longer.

"Raize! Do it now! I can't continue!" He roared out.

A mental message was passed through the dragons that surrounded the ball in the middle of the valley, and a number of electricity dragons rose out from their hiding places. Zepos was slightly amazed to see the pure power of a gravity dragon. How the drake was managing to hold them together he had no idea. Rather then worrying about it however he opened his maw and let a blast of lightning into the metallic mass. The other dragons quickly followed his lead and soon the ball was crackling with yellow streaks of lightning as it ran through the machines in it. The more electricity that was added the stronger the charge of the ball was, until the machines, planes and even the devices controlling the dragons began to short circuit.

In the centre Silver felt the charge hit her in the back and she let out a small growl, before forcing the electricity outward again, creating an extremely strong current that ran back and forth between the outside and inside of the ball. Elron did the same, finding it surprisingly easy to control.

Gravon held on for as long as he could, but eventually it became to much for the young dragon to handle. He let his power go and collapsed to the ground, quickly falling unconscious from the effort. The ball broke as he did, but his job had already been done. None of the machines that had entered mass were still functioning, and many of the humans inside had been killed by the electricity. Sadly, a few of the dragons had as well, but that was something that couldn't be avoided.

Silver and Elron felt the pressure holding them together release and instantly flapped their wings, flying up through the mass as it fell apart. The machines rained from the sky and into the valley below. Explosions ran out from the planes, and a few of the robots simply fell to pieces.

Silver let out a roar of victory, their plan had worked! A few roars accompanied her own but were quickly cut short by the sound of jet engines in the distance. Over the horizon appeared another army of A.O.D.H. This one was a little smaller then the one that they had just defeated, but it was still large enough to make a difference.

Elron growled, "We missed some."
