Chapter 6
Mikhail was sitting in the study, reading the documents about Athena. His ocean blue eyes scanned the documents thoroughly. He was frowning. Right next to him was standing a man with glasses.
"Sebastian, find out where is Jacob Everhart."
Sebastian was none other than Mikhail's secretary. Sebastian looked at Mikhail in a puzzled expression as if he didn't understand what Mikhail means. Finally, Sebastian parted his lips as he asked;
"Sir, do you not want me to kill him?"
Mikhail was silent for a moment. He replied with a smirk,
"Of course. I want him dead. But it's not the right time."
Mikhail's enchanting, demonic eyes glistened as he voiced his menacing desires.
"He dared to deceive me with a broken toy. I will hunt him down when he let his guard down, and retrieve that useful toy and shatter it into pieces."
Mikhail, the man who wouldn't leave anyone alive even for simple mistakes was really talking about the right time. He was the kind of man who would never thought about anything beforehand. But he had never regretted anything he had done, since he had the absolute power. He was the kind of man who could smile innocently even after killing thousands of people with his own hands, a man who possessed an incredibly dominant aura and strength that made people weak when met with his azure gaze. Still, Mikhail's response was indeed out of character compared to his usual demeanor.
Athena tried her best to avoid Mikhail. It wasn't because she hated him. She feared that maybe seeing her would make him angry. Honestly, she had thought about getting kicked out of the mansion upon Mikhail's arrival. But he didn't kicked her out. Athena felt like he wasn't that cruel as people had been talking about. It was like his image in her mind was getting better. But every time such thoughts came into her mind, she slapped herself on the face in order to not forget, the sensation of pain.
Her kind but wounded heart was healing bit by bit by Mikhail's unexpected actions. She knew in her heart that it was impossible for him to love her. The first time Athena saw him, she knew she wasn't the one who would stay by his side in the long run hugging the title of his wife. His thick eyebrows, azure eyes, radiant blonde hair, toned body that would make anyone drool over him and ultimately his aura and that intoxicating masculine cologne would make everyone kneel to him.
That's who he was. So, undoubtedly, his wife should be someone who was impressive as him and someone who deserves to be with him. Athena firmly believed that a love between them was hopeless.
On that day at night, Mikhail came to see Athena and handed over a letter to her. It was a letter that meant to invite Mikhail to a charity party. He looked at her with keen eyes as if he was waiting for a reply. Athena was crazily shocked and didn't know what to say. She just stared at him like she didn't know what was going on.
Mikhail sighed.
"You should come to the party with me."
Mikhail said nonchalantly. His eyes, the mirrors to his heart, gleamed, reflecting his scheming mind.
But Athena's expression was out of the world. She couldn't believe what she just heard. It wasn't because she was extremely happy, but her brain shut down the moment it processed the information. Athena, being one of the best introverts out there, was extremely afraid of socialization. She hates socialization the most. Even when she was a student, she didn't went on to any school trips. No friends at all. She couldn't tell him that she was afraid to face others. Most importantly she didn't had the guts to say 'no' to Mikhail. That means she had to attend the charity party the next day, with him as his partner.
The next morning.
Mikhail sent her a gown that fits tightly on her body. Athena who always wore baggy jeans and top didn't had any experience in wearing such fancy clothes. With a big sigh, she wore the gown. Even though the dress wasn't revealing, she was uncomfortable wearing it. It seemed Mikhail knew, she was not into revealing clothes. Mikhail came inside as to see if Athena was done preparing. He wore an exquisite black suit along with an elegant watch which priced more than Athena could ever imagine. As he entered the room, the air seemed to thicken with his magnetic presence.
"My wife, are you done preparing?"
Mikhail asked.
"I have to comb my hair."
She replied gently.
"It's not like you are getting married ... fine, hurry up."
Mikhail said with a sneer on his face.
Athena didn't say anything, hearing his remark but continued to comb her hair. But her heart, already in pieces, broke even more .
Mikhail kept looking at her without blinking while she was combing her hair. The beautiful black dress he had chosen for her indeed looked good on her. He was smirking at her, admiring her sidelong glances. He gazed at her with his alluring eyes, just like a predator, who would eat her soon.
