Christmas Party Part II
I enter the function room with Maddison. I look around the room and I see a stage with a DJ set up on it. A few spinning balls that sends light throughout the room. A Christmas tree at the side of the stage with a few presents. There's green and red streamers in the room. I look around the room and I see my ex-husband talking to some guys.
Colter looks over. He says something to the group before he walks towards me. He stops in front of me and kisses me.
I push him off me. "What was that for?
Colter looks up. I do the same and see a mistletoe.
Fucking mistletoe.
I glare at him. "Don't do that again, Colter." I look behind me and see Maddison talking to a guy. I clear my throat. "Maddie, let's get a drink."
She nods.
I pull her away from the guy and we walk over to the bar. I order our drinks and I turn towards her. "Why are you flirting with the guys here? I thought you were going to move to New York to be closer to him?"
She shakes her head. "I just found out he got another girl pregnant while I was in Sydney. He broke up with me this morning. I'm still moving to New York. But, before I do that I want to meet some of Colter's workmates." She looks around the room. "I intend to sleep with one these guys tonight."
I laugh. "You're the same, Maddison. I'm going to miss you being my wing girl. You knew how to get me into trouble."
She hugs me. "I'm going to miss you. I can't believe Christmas is tomorrow. It came around pretty quick. Did you get all your shopping done?"
I drink some of my champagne before I answer. "No, I'm just going to give everyone some money. They can get whatever they want. I feel bad that I haven't been home for Christmas all these years."
She hugs me. "Don't feel bad. You needed to leave to sort things out. You were in a bad spot before you joined me in Australia."
A guy walks over and he looks at Maddison. "Hey, pretty girl. Will you dance with me?"
She looks at me. "Do you mind?"
I shake my head. "Have fun."
"Thanks." She wraps her arms around the guy and they walk over to the dance floor. He wraps his arms around her and they slow dance.
I turn back to the bartender. "Can I have another champagne?"
He pours me another glass. He places it on the bar. He leans over and whispers. "What's a beautiful girl like you doing over here drinking alone?"
I point to the dance floor. "I was with my cousin."
A throat clears beside me and I turn towards the person. I look into his piercing blue eyes. He smiles. "Will you dance with me? It's been awhile since you and I danced."
I cross my arms. "I don't think that's such a great idea, Colter."
He sits next to me. "I'm not going anywhere until you agree to dance."
I take a sip of my drink. "I'd rather dance with the bartender then you, Colter."
He rises. "Be that way. I'm going to find someone else to dance with."
I don't want him to dance with anyone else. He was mine and I kind of want him back. Damn him!
I rise. "Wait!"
He turns towards me. I walk over to him and stand beside him. He takes my hand in his large calloused ones. He whispers. "You couldn't stand the thought of me with someone else?" I nod. "Good. I hate the thought of you with anyone else. I want you to be mine again, Lexi. I know we can't race back into what we had before we lost our daughter. I'm willing to go slow with you."
I touch his face. "I want to go slow with you, too. How about we start with dates for Christmas? Come over to Mom's for lunch and then we'll have dinner with your family?"
He smiles. "I like the sound of that. Our parents are going to be surprised though."
I shrug. "My parents have always wanted me to be happy. You're the only one that can make that happen for me."
His face falls. "I'm sorry for the way I treated you. You were grieving as well and I got stuck in my head. I didn't mean to push you away. I'm sorry." He has tears in his eyes.
I pull him to me and hug him. I feel something wet hit my shoulder. I see tears falling down his face. He makes me cry as well.
People start to gather around us. From the corner of my eyes I see Colter's Dad move toward the group. "There's nothing to see here. Move along."
I mouth. "Thanks."
He nods.
I watch as the group walk away. "I love you, Colter."
He pulls back. "I love you too, Lexi baby." He kisses me.
I can taste our tears in this kiss. I pull away and wipe my face. I slap his arm. "You made my make-up smudge."
He laughs. "You still look beautiful to me."
I look towards the bathroom. "I need to fix my make-up."
He holds my hand and we walk to the bathroom together. He lets go of my hand and I enter the bathroom.
I walk over to the basin and look at my face. The mascara has run down my face.
I should have worn my waterproof mascara.
A couple girls from the office enters the bathroom. "Did you see the new girl? She was all over the boss and his father didn't do anything. He was always telling us that we couldn't date people we work with. Why is there a different rule for Colter?"
I clear my throat. "Hello, ladies. Do you have a habit of talking before you see who's in the room?"
She smirks. "Oh, honey. I knew you were in here. That hunk of meat is out there talking to some blonde."
I slap her across the face. I smile. "After the New Year you won't have a job."
She shakes her head. "You can't do that."
I open the door. "Watch me." I exit the bathroom and crash into someone.
Colter smiles. "Can we dance now please?"
I nod.
He takes my hand and we walk onto the dance floor. He wraps his arm around me and we dance to Ronan Keating's song 'When you say nothing at all.'
We spin around on the dance floor. He dips me and pulls me back up right.
All the couples that were on the dance floor have moved to the side to watch us.
I see Colter's parents and his mother is crying. His father wraps his arms around her. He kisses her head.
When the song finishes I look at Colter. "Thanks for the dance. I forgot how it felt to dance with you and to be held by the man I love the most in this world."
"Do you want a drink?"
I nod.
Colter and I walk over to the bar and we get a drink. We spent the night drinking and dancing. Colter never left my side.
