Chapter 2
I went to the bathroom that the eight of us had to share. Trixibelle was standing at the mirror, picking at her teeth with one hand and playing around with the flowers on her bunny mask with the other. To be honest, Trixi was very pretty, and she quite literally saw the world through rose-tinted lenses as the clear plastic on the eye-holes of the bunny mask were the same pink shade as the flowers on the mask. Her dark brown hair was usually tied up in buns, her black eyes were always hidden behind the lenses of her mask. She was possibly the most compassionate, empathetic, and sympathetic of us all. I honestly didn't understand. From what we were told by 1, we were all abandoned by our real families. It left us angry and hardly ever kind. We'd been raised to believe that everyone was a threat, except for the other kids we were raised with and the Caretakers. Trust no one. The rest of us weren't as kind as Trixi, but we were a little bit nice, even if we didn't like showing it that much.
I went over next to Trixi and began to brush my teeth. Trixi saw me and smiled. I just glanced at her and continued to brush my teeth. I finished brushing my teeth and hair, and went over to our bedroom and into the closet. I got into a a red and yellow sweater and black ripped jeans. A few seconds after I got out of the closet, my necklace started to beep, indicating that it was time to go to the dinner hall to eat breakfast. I looked down at my necklace, needing to crane my neck to see it because of my mask. The necklace was like a golden collar with a ruby in the middle. The ruby would beep to indicate the change in our schedule. The colors of the necklace were also our colors for clothes. We had different sections in the closet for each of our clothes. You could see a pattern with it.
My colors were yellow, red, and neutrals. Trixi's was certain shades of blue, dark teal, and neutrals.
Colby's was a certain shades of green and white.
Apollo's was certain shades of purple, certain shades of orange, and neutrals.
Apollo's twin sister, Andriette's was certain shades of yellow, certain shades of teal, and neutrals.
Beatrix's was shades of seafoam and lake foam green, certain shades of pink, and neutrals.
Drew's was a certain shade of indigo and certain shades of grey and neutrals.
Lucas' was a certain shade of purple and shades of grey.
We each had a Caretaker that paid special attention to us. They all took care of us, but we had one that looked after us like a parent. Mine was 8. He was pretty laid back. He didn't mind if I did what I wanted, only if I didn't get myself hurt. All the Caretakers were blank figures, completely white with no eyes. All their clothes were grey along with anything on their faces. 8 had a scar across where his eye would be. The Caretakers were like parents to us. The female Caretakers were 1, 2, 3, and 4. 1 was maternal and protective, 2 was smart had experienced, 3 wasn't around a lot but we'd gotten used to it, and 4 was sophisticated and polite. The male Caretakers were 5, 6, 7, and 8. 5 demanded respect, 6 acted like he was a military general or jail guard and was very strict, 7 was cheerful and fun loving, and 8 was-
Well I said already.
After breakfast and warm ups, 6 brought us outside to train and spar in the woods around the mansion we lived in. He handed us crossbows and Apollo was excited. Just like his Greek Mythology counterpart, he was quite skilled with a bow and arrow, along with the crossbow. 6 brought out a cage with a huge hog in it. He smiled and knet down. "Now, you all are gonna try to find it in the woods and kill it, 3 minutes after I release it. The person/people who brings it gets to sit out for the rest of training for today." He said. We all were excited. I was a bit nervous, because I knew that Apollo and Andriette would probably win. They always teamed up. They were THOSE kind of siblings. Always by each other's side, pranksters together, tricksters together. Andriette looked over to her brother, and brushed her white curly hair away from the eye holes of her mask and he looked back to her. "Does everyone understand?" 6 asked. "Yes!" We all cheered. 6 nodded at our excited response. "You are allowed to fight each other to lower your chances of losing." I looked over nervously to Beatrix. Her mask covered her mouth, but I could tell she was smiling. She was possibly the most vicious of us. She wouldn't hesitate to kill us to get what she wanted. Even I wasn't that cruel.
Once we were ready, 6 let the hog loose. We waited 3 minutes, then all of us bolted after it.
