Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
Once they had reached Hogwarts after a ride with carriages, every student and faculty were gathered in the Great Hall for the feast. Amara wished that she could sit with Hermione, Ron, and Harry but since she was late to the Great Hall everyone was already seated, leaving only one spot for her at the Slytherin table.
Next to Draco Malfoy.
When the blonde girl realized this, she wanted to punch herself in the face for being late but she didn't want to seem mental, so she sucked it up and strutted over to the free seat with confidence oozing from her body. "Hello, boys and Pansy."
The group of friends, or "Malfoy's minions" as Amara liked to call them, turned their heads towards the girl. "Davenoux." Draco spat out her name. That was when she decided that she was going to have a little bit of fun with him.
"Draco, did you save me a seat? How sweet of you." she teased the boy and sent him a flirtatious smile as she sat down beside him. "What are you talking about?" the blonde boy looked at her confused. "Nothing," she told him and directed her focus to Dumbledor
"Welcome! Welcome to another year at Hogwarts. Now, I'd like to say a few words."
Amara looked over her shoulder, scanning the people on the table next to her in search of her friends. When she locked eyes with Hermione she smiled at her and noticed that Ron and Harry sat with their backs towards her.
"Before we all become too befuddled by our excellent feast. First I'm pleased to welcome Professor R.J Lupin who's kindly considered to fill the post of Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. Good luck Professor." The room erupted into cheers and applause as Lupin raised from his chair.
How many times are we getting a new teacher for that? Amara quietly thought to herself as she clapped her hands. "Of course. That's why he gave you the chocolate, Harry." she could hear Hermione say, but what was really getting her attention was the blonde boy beside her who tried to get Harry's attention.
"Potter. Potter. Is it true you fainted? I mean, you actually fainted?" The golden trio looked at him annoyed as Ron said: "Shove off, Malfoy."
"How did he even find out?" Harry whispered as the trio took a glance at Amara. "Don't look at me. I didn't tell him. I don't even like him." The girl told them as she raised her hands in surrender.
"That's one thing we can agree on," Draco said in a whisper only to receive an elbow in his right ribs. He grounded as he placed his hand where she had hit him. "Would it kill you to be nice for once, Malfoy?" Amara whisper-yelled at the boy. "To you, yeah." He fired back, disgust being visible in his voice.
"Our Care of Magical Creatures teacher has decided to retire in order to spend more time with his remaining limbs. Fortunately, I'm delighted to announce that his place will be taken by none other than our own Rubeus Hagrid." the room erupted in cheers and applause once more, only this time louder.
"Finally on a more disquieting note at the request of the Ministry of Magic Hogwarts will, until further notice, play host to the dementors of Azkaban until such a time as Sirius Black is captured." whispers where heard all around the room and Amara had a feeling that this would only bring them more trouble.
"The dementors will be stationed at every entrance to the grounds. Now whilst I've been assured that their presence will not disrupt our day-to-day activities. A word of caution, dementors are vicious creatures. They'll not distinguish between the one they hunt and the one who gets in their way. Therefore, I must warn each and every one of you, give them no reason to harm you. It is not in the nature of a dementor to be forgiving."
Amara couldn't help but feel frightened at his words. She was no fan of dementors and found them a bit scary. They could suck the life out of you, and Amara would much like to live longer than 13.
"But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light."
When the feast was over, every student was going back to their common rooms. Amara was quick to catch up with the golden trio before they went their separate ways. "Do y'all think the dementors will cause problems?" Amara asked them as she fell into pace with them. "I hope not." Answered a calm Hermione.
"And how did Malfoy know about you fainting?" The blonde girl directed towards the famous wizard. "I didn't tell him nor did you guys, so how did he know?"
"I honestly don't know Amara. Can we just drop it?" As the last words left his mouth, Harry stormed away from them. "Is he on his period or something?" Amara half-joked half-serious asked the two others who only shrugged their shoulders in response.
"Amara?" The blonde girl looked at her ginger friend, "Do you remember back on the train when you couldn't shift back?" The girl hummed in response, "what do you think that means?"
"If I knew, Ronald then I would tell you but I'm just as clueless as you are."
In all honesty, Amara was actually a bit scared of what it could mean. It's the first time that she hasn't been able to shift back. And quite frankly, she had never read anywhere that this could happen.
"She said you had the what?" Walking together with the trio to their Care of Magical Creatures class, they updated Amara on what happened during their Divination class. "The Grim."
"Isn't that an omen of death?" The blonde girl asked. Hermione replied with a quick nod answering the girl's question, as they walked down the stairs. "You don't think that Grim thing's got anything to do with Sirius Black?" Amara looked at the ginger in front of them. It surely couldn't be that, could it?
As they continued to walk down the stairs, Amara's thoughts traveled to a certain blonde guy. She thought about how much he had grown over the summer. How his hair was no longer slicked back and a little bit shorter, and how his voice had gotten deeper. Of course, he still had the same attitude that Amara despised.
It wasn't before she almost tripped and Harry caught her, that she returned to the conversation that had previously taken place. "Are you alright?" Amara found her balance again as the three friends looked at her concerned, "Yeah, just got lost in my thoughts."
Pushing past them, the young girl skipped down the stairs, not waiting for her friends to catch up with her as she neared Hagrid's hut.
"That's it. Come on now. Come closer. Less talking, if you don't mind." Amara heard Hagrid speak as they came to the hut. "I got a real treat for you today. A great lesson. So follow me." The Gryffindors and Slytherins followed Hagrid to a clearing not so far away from his hut. "Right, you lot. Less chattering. Form a group over there. And open your books at page 49."
Amara followed the group towards where a big rock was sitting. Placing her bag on the ground, she looked confused at her book. "Exactly how do we do that?" she asked Hagrid at the same time as another voice did. "Just stroke the spine of course. Goodness me." Hagrid answered the two kids.
She did exactly as he told them, and her book calmed down. A few meters from her, Amara saw Neville opening his book without stroking it. The group erupted into laughter as Neville fell to the ground, his book attacking him. She left her own book on the big rock and walked over to Neville, taking his book and closing it for him. "Thanks, Amara." The boy smiled at her. She smiled back at him before returning to her previous spot in the big clearing.
Hermione placed her book on top of Amara's before turning to the little friendship group they had formed, "I think they're funny." she told them with seriousness. Amara opened her mouth to say something, but a different voice beat her to it.
"Oh, yeah. Terribly funny. Really witty." The quartet turned to see none other than Malfoy and his minions. "God, this place has gone to the dogs. Wait until my father hears Dubmledore's got this oaf teaching classes."
"Shut up, Malfoy."
"Piss off, Malfoy." Harry and Amara said at the same time, only to have Malfoy and his friends ohing in response to them his eyes lingering on Amara longer than on Harry. Draco handed his bag to Crabbe as he and Harry stepped closer to each other. Amara was just waiting for one of them to punch the other until she saw a terrified look on Draco's face.
"Dementor! Dementor!" he yelled out pointing behind Harry making everyone turn their heads. And when nothing could be seen, they heard laughter coming from behind them. Amara took a step forward, ready to launch herself onto Malfoy, but before she could get any closer, Ron grabbed her waist and pulled her back. "He's not worth it, Amara," Ron whispered in her ear, still holding her waist trying to calm her down.
Hagrid cleared his throat trying to gain the group's attention. Behind him was a hippogriff standing tall. Amara had never seen one before and took a step back bumping into someone.
"Isn't he beautiful. Say hello to Buckbeak." Multiple students looked at each other, each and everyone confused about what that creature was.
"Hagrid, exactly what is that?" Ron voiced what everyone was wondering. "That, Ron, is a hippogriff. The first thing you wanna know is they're very proud creatures. Very easily offended. You do not want to insult a hippogriff. It may just be the last thing you ever do. Now, who'd like to come and say hello?"
Everyone took a step back, being a bit scared of the creature in front of them. Well, everyone except Harry. "Well done, Harry. Well done." Harry looked at the other students behind him, unsure of what to do. "Come on now." Ron slightly pushed Harry forward when he didn't move, making Amara lightly slap his arm.
"Now, you have to let him make the first move. It's only polite. So, step up. Give him a nice bow." Harry walked towards the hippogriff and did exactly what Hagrid said. Amara held her breath, scared of what might happen to her friend.
"Then you wait to see if he bows back. If he does, you can go and touch him. If not, well we'll get to that later."
Everyone was intensely watching Harry bowing down in front of Buckbeak. And when Buckbeak spread out his wings, Amara could swear she felt her heart beat out of her chest. She grabbed Hermione's and Ron's hands and squeezed them. But when the hippogriff calmed down and bowed to Harry, Amara let go of their hands and let go of the breath she was holding in.
And as Harry now was walking towards Buckbeak, a number of students let out "ow's" which caused Amara to turn her head to the left seeing Draco and his group of friends push their way to the front. The blonde girl made a grimace at him which he copied to her when they caught eyes. Rolling her eyes, she turned her attention back to Harry who was now sitting on Buckbeak.
As Hagrid slapped the hippogriff, he started running with Harry who has holding onto Buckbeak's neck so he didn't fall off.
Amara watched in awe as Buckbeak flew over them. She was actually getting a tad bit jealous that Harry was flying with the hippogriff and not her. Amara thought that it looked cool as they soured above them.
When Hagrid whistled on Buckbeak and they landed on the ground, Amara cheered on Harry, "Yeah, Harry!"
It wasn't until a certain blonde pushed through the crowd that the cheering stopped and all eyes turned to him. "You're not dangerous at all, are you, you great ugly brute!" Draco called out to Buckbeak as he walked towards the hippogriff. And when Buckbeak rose and spread out his wings, screaming was heard around the group.
Amara was standing frozen in her spot as all the other students ran away scared of what would happen. And when Buckbeak launched himself at Draco, the blonde girl didn't feel sorry for him. After all, it was his own fault that the hippogriff attacked him.
Hagrid calmed down the hippogriff as Draco rolled on the ground clutching his arm. "It's killed me! It's killed me!" He exclaimed still rolling around.
"Hagrid he has to be taken to the hospital!" Hermione told their teacher as she jogged towards them, Amara close behind her. "I'm the teacher. I'll do it."
As Hagrid plucked up a whimpering Draco, he yelled out that the class was dismissed.
"You're gonna regret this. You and your bloody chicken!"
"Don't be so dramatic, Malfoy!"
