Chapter Eight
Ann watched from the inside of the van as Rotters slipped past it. A large number of them just strolled over the road, and into the other side of trees. She fingered her gun impatiently as half of it had finally cleared, and she waited for the last bits to move on.
She sighed as she didn't have the time, and opened the door to the weakest side. All of them moved towards her when she slammed the door shut. She jogged past most of them that were to far away, and simply jabbed the closer ones with her gun, sending them reeling backwards.
How did we get in this situation in the first place?
The road was empty except for her jogging figure after a few miles of open land. Trees gave way to country side as she slipped off the road, and into a gravel road, stopping at a power station to rest. She slipped inside its fences, and dropped her pack as she made a quick sweep of the area. She pulled out the map, and made some more marks that were closer to the red marks on the paper.
She calculated the distance, and marked a note book filled with dates, and other numbers. "50 miles from project Reunion's location."
She pulled out the radio to make her first call in with Markus who was bound to be expecting it soon. She waited for the signal to loose static before speaking into the device.
"This is Casket calling in to grave robber. Over." She spoke evenly into the mic.
A few seconds of static before a reply came across, "This is grave robber. What is the go ahead of Reunion? Over."
Ann flipped her note book shut before placing it on the map, and replying, "Fifty miles out from last location. Over."
The voice on the line changed from last time, and Ann knew it was Markus, "Casket, be advised that there was a firefight at Reunion's location, and we are unaware about the current situation. Your job might be done, and if so your objective will switch to camping trip. Over."
Ann closed her eyes a bit, " Understood. Over."
"Keep safe Casket. Grave robber over and out." That marked the end of the conversation.
She whispered to herself as the static flowed back in, "Yes sir..."
------
Ann moved away from the power station, and continued down the gravel path. She was supposed to follow the highway, but she would cut hours off her time by taking the country. She knew she would be disciplined for it, but objective was at stake.
The Rotters had thickened quite a lot since the start of her road trip. She found time to keep her aim up while on the move, and thought about taking a vehicle.
Just a couple days more, tops.
Ann slowed to a stop as she found a farm stead on the side of the road. A few sheds littered the road side with a row of evergreen trees along side it. She slipped through the row, and moved inwards. A small house stood in the middle of a small group of Rotters.
Finally some combat practice.
Ann flipped her rifle back, and slipped out her knife. She stretched her fingers nicely over the hilt, and felt her leather gloves stretch with her fingers. She steadied her stance as she whistled loudly towards the group of seven or so Rotters.
She swayed back and forth as the first one came along towards her, and she drove upwards with the knife. It sliced through the neck nicely, but shuddered as it met the jaw bone. She then pushed inwards, and spun off its own momentum to meet the next two in line.
With one kick she snapped the closest ones leg, and mantled over its now kneeling body to deal with the second one. She kicked that one backwards, and spun around off her kick to drive the blade into the back of the skull of the Rotter she had mantled. The one she had kicked had been joined by two others, and they approached her from two directions as she steadied her hand.
She let them get closer and closer until they could almost grab her arm. That was when she moved towards one, and rammed it backwards. The other two's hands snatched her bag, but were shook off from the movement.
She drove the Rotter to the ground, and barrel rolled off it's still moving body. She rolled right into the last Rotter which had been off farther than the others. Is reached over top of her body, but she flipped her legs up, and wrapped them around it's torso. She used this lock to hold it in place while she unholstered her pistol.
She dropped the one attacking her first before rolling into a crouch to finish off the other three that had gained ground since the last encounter.
I missed that last one. Grading would be a C at most..."
Ann stood up from her crouch, and glanced around at the dead bodies, and admired her slightly sloppy handiwork. She then wiped the dust from her military outfit, and continued to enter the small house in front of her.
======
I wanted to show the extent of Ann's capabilities after her training. It was also time for one of her chapters, and I didn't really have much of an idea for excitement in this one. This one is a short one, but I hope it will do.
