The protest
The sound of chirping birds shook you from your slumber. How long had you been asleep? You stretch across the couch, your legs finally regaining some feeling from going numb. You knew that sleeping on the couch caused your legs to go numb but that didn't stop you doing it at least three times a week. You remove the now cold and empty plate from your lap and pick up your phone, hoping to shed some light as to how long you had been asleep. You widen your (E/C) eyes in shock, seeing the time on your phone screen. 8:30 am. Had you really been asleep that long? Last thing you remember it was at least 5:40 pm! Your minds begins to wander off, trying to decode what caused you to sleep so long, then it hits you. You scream curses, almost shaking the house with the sheer volume of the screams. The public speaking started at nine! You quickly grab your coat, flinging it over the clothes that you had worn the night before and head out, forgetting breakfast for the first time in your life. You didn't know what made you rush so much. All you felt was an excitement in your heart that couldn't be explained. What could have excited you so much? It was only a public speaking. Nothing was going on today besides that.
You finally reach the spot where Frisk was scheduled to speak, your legs feeling like lead from all the running you had done to get there on time. You look up from the floor, trying to catch your breath and perhaps steady it. Without really noticing you begin to look around, almost itching to see if the skeleton you saw at the bar was going to turn up. At the moment the stage was empty. You try to catch your breath some more, noticing that others were looking at you funny and beginning to whisper. You didn't care, feeling proud that you had made it into town in half an hour from the town's outskirts. Finally you hear footsteps, Frisk and some other monsters finally making their way onto the stage. The skeleton you had hoped to see was there, smiling like he always did. He looked around the crowd, his sockets finally landing on you. You felt your face burn up, thinking it to be the heat from the running you ignore it and begin to listen to what the child had to say. The skeleman finally looked away and looked into the crowd, a seemingly blue color to his bony cheeks.
About half an hour passed, nothing really happened. Frisk just talked about up and coming human/monster projects to try and help unite the two races, every so often becoming shy and flustered. You always smiled softly without fail, seeing the short skeleton help the child get back up to speed and even sometimes speaking for them. Maybe he wasn't so strange after all, seeming like quite a nice guy. From this point on you keep your eyes on the monster, Frisk's words becoming just white noise to you. Your heart began to skip, missing a beat every so often. What was going on? Why were you acting like this? He was just a monster, a skeleton at that. He wasn't anything special but deep down you knew that was a lie. You didn't really know at the time but something was beginning to form, you soul almost blossoming like a flower. Something beautiful was about to emerge. However, that wasn't gong to happen now.
Having watched the monster for some time you notice that his expression had changed, now somewhat serious and on edge. He began to rush the child, trying to get them off stage. You didn't realize why, that was until you heard a loud scream from behind you. The crowd begins to part, distress filling the air. Protesters had come to stop the speaking. Not all humans were accepting of the new arrivals, some wanting them to simply go back underground and some who wanted them dead and buried. These ones seemed to want them gone but not quite dead. You turn, feeling fear fill your heart and causing you to flee. Sound became inaudible and your vision blurred, tears filling your eyes. You knew you should have stayed home. Suddenly you feel yourself being pushed onto the floor, something falling on top of you and wrapping around you. A large rock flies over your head, hitting the ground in front of you. You sigh, filled with relief.
" Thank you " You turn to see a skeletal face above you, a blue flame covered eye staring back at you. Your face heats up once more.
" Sorry about that " The monster helps you to your feet, his bony hands wrapping around yours. The other monsters had apprehended the protesters, caging them in orange bones and spears. You look away, messing with the pull chord of your coat.
" Your a quiet one aren'tcha? " You look to the floor, embarrassed for some reason. The skeleton chuckles, placing his hands in his blue jacket pockets. He seemed cool and calm, just what you suspected. Obviously nothing rattled this skeleton's bones.
" Let me make it up to ya. You shouldn't have been caught up in this. Wanna grab a bite to eat? "
