Broken Promises
Ollie watched as Phoebe and Ryan worked, knowing he should stay far away from the strange Star Dust. His first experience with the element that seemed to do many things ended rather... explosively, so he chose to stay back on this one.
Star Dust wasn't the only thing that Ryan used in the freeze ray as he dubbed it. Instead it was a mix of machined parts and the element that made up the weapon. The aforementioned weapon wasn't even done yet, it was still in its testing phase. Which brought up the question, why did they test it on him?
"What is on the other side?" Ollie leaned on a chair, continuing to watch the strange project.
"Chloe and Nick are working on machinery over there." Ryan studiously mixed the dust in a silvery liquid making it poof up a cloud of color. He looked up and pulled his goggles off of his face, leaving an open space that wasn't covered in the explosion. His expression was one of shock. "I guess this stuff does explode," he mused.
Laughing, Ollie asked if he could see what Nick was up to and maybe even help him.
"Go ahead," Ryan waved him away as Phoebe handed him a towel. He gratefully accepted it, trying and failing to wipe his face off. "You'll probably just end up multi-colored if you stay here."
Taking the opportunity to stretch his legs and relish the fact he had control over them, Ollie thought about the notion of everything he learned. Too many Shapeshifters had been attacked recently, the enemy must have a way of tracking them. It was time they stepped up their game, Ollie knew they needed a tracker of their own. They also needed a plan, one that he was formulating in his mind at this very moment.
The whirring from the other room had since stopped, but Ollie decided to err on the safe side and put on a pair of safety goggles, provided in a little bin. Cracking open the door, Ollie saw what could only be described as a mechanics dream. Tool boxes lined the corners, some of the drawers open revealing everything one could possibly need.
In the middle section of the room were all types of saws, drills, even a welding station and a furnace off to the side.
"You guys built this?" Ollie's mouth was agape as he took everything in. It was beauty in machinery, a raw strength. Chloe looked up from the tiny metal construction she was building.
"It wouldn't be possible without Ryan being a billionaire, but yes. It took us time but we did it." Chloe looked completely at home in this environment. She had thick work gloves laying next to her should she need them. Currently she was wearing a thinner pair of a dark brown material, presumably made with the Star Dust in them. Her long dirty blonde hair was pulled back into a ponytail, a few strands escaping here and there. Unlike Nick, Chloe had a custom pair of safety goggles, ones that she pulled off her eyes to speak with Ollie.
"Sorry, Ryan's a billionaire?" That would certainly explain why everything here was so nice, especially the materials. It was most likely funded by Ryan. In fact, it sounded like the whole concept of The Sanctuary would not be possible without Ryan.
"Well, more or less like a thousandaire now. This equipment isn't inexpensive." Chloe smiled. "It's nice to have you back Ollie." She nudged Nick who was very absorbed in what he was doing. It appeared that he was listening to music, otherwise he would have responded earlier.
"What?" Nick asked, pulling one of the earbuds out.
"Ollie stopped by." Chloe sighed, using her finger to spin his arm. This caused Nick to turn towards Ollie. The shock on his face was priceless.
"Ollie! When did you get here?" Nick took out his earbuds and patted Ollie on the back.
"Just a few minutes ago you dufus," Chloe teased. "Maybe if you paid more attention to the environment around you instead of whatever that is," She waggled her finger at the earbuds which still were blasting quite loudly. To be fair, Chloe had a point. Whatever was coming out of those earbuds was not music. More like uncoordinated screaming.
"I don't complain when you play your Disney songs." Nick raised an eyebrow at Chloe. She flushed promptly deep red and mumbled about vocal exercises. "Music aside, how are you doing Ollie?"
"I need your help." Ollie dared to ask, knowing that Nick might very well say no. At the moment he needed three of the four people down here to make his plan work. If just one of them said no, he was screwed.
Nick took a second before he looked up. "With what?"
"Defeating them."
