The Last Step (3)
When the Chief of Police was brought into the court hall, Takeshi had already arrived and have been holding Lihua in his arms for some time after the royal doctor stitched up the cut on her forehead that was made when she kowtowed to King Nao.
King Nao sat on the dais drinking tea while Takeshi and Lihua sat just to his right as Takeshi held her in his arms. His hand gripped her hands tightly as he calmed his beating heart down in excitement in seeing her. Her scent drove him wild with longing as he concentrated on keeping the mask on his face although his body showed possessiveness towards his Lady Wife.
The Chief of Police, Cain Tan walked in proudly, his body swinging back and forth with arrogance. He stopped in his tracks and bowed towards the dais once he was in from of the dais.
"Stand." King Nao said coldly. "It has been five days since the investigations to the death of Minister Chen and his household. What say you to the evidence you have found against my King Brother?"
Cain hesitated in his movements as he stared in front of him. His instructions that he got was to keep Hell King under palace arrest for a long time, under the excuse of the investigation for his involvement of the murder. The longer he was under palace arrest, the more angry he would get and leave the palace. Once he does, he would show disloyalty towards King Nao and they could accuse him of disloyalty and bring charges against him. Cain did not expect King Nao to ask him for evidence in front of the whole court ministers.
He didn't have any evidence, he couldn't find any either. It was held back from the public that the Chen Clan was poisoned and that is the caused for their death. However no doctor or poison expert knew what kind of poison was used, nor how it was administered to them. He had no evidence of Hell Kings involvement.
"King Nao." Cain stuttered. "This servant has not found any evidence to Hell King's involvement to the deaths of the Chen Clan."
"Then my King Brother is release of palace arrest and free to go as a free and innocent man." King Nao stated in front of everyone. "Since no evidence of his involvement into their deaths could not be found."
King Nao watched every Minister in the room as he waited to see if anyone of them wanted to cause a scene, but when no one argued against his statement, he continued. Lady Lihua had brought up a great argument as well. Even though the Chen Clan had wronged Hell King all those years ago, Hell King did not raise a hand against them. He has the power to eliminate anyone with a flick of his finger, should he choose to and we, as mortals among a martial God, could do nothing but watch his tyranny. But he didn't. Because of his respect, love and loyalty towards his King Brother."
"But King Nao." Cain started to interject.
"If there is no evidence, there is no proof. Which means, Minister Lei lied on his death bed as his last pay back towards the Shiro Clan. For his crimes against the Shiro Clan, this King will take back any and all property of the Chen Clan and any mention of their names in history shall be stricken off. So this King has decided. So this King has said, so shall it should be." King Nao said to the room. "Close the case of the Chen Clan. They are traitors to this country, to the Cara citizens and to this King. Everyone is dismissed."
Cain wanted to argue more, but he wasn't able to do so. King Nao had closed the case and deemed the Chen Clan as traitors. His mission of keeping Hell King in palace arrest failed. There was nothing he could do to force Hell King to disobey King Nao in public. Resigning himself to his fate, Cain exited the court hall along side the ministers and King Nao, Takeshi and Lihua walk to King Nao's study.
Once inside, Takeshi immediately opens his hands towards King Nao as King Nao stares at Takeshi's hand in disgust. Slowly he pulled three arm lengths of strings of precious pink pearls out of a chest by his desk and handed it to Takeshi's open palm. Takeshi takes the pink pearls and loops it around Lihua's neck a couple of times before stepping back to stare at the layered pink pearl necklace around her neck.
"I knew it would look beautiful on you." Takeshi said as he held her hands in his. "I knew I would win this bet."
"Tsk!" King Nao pouted as he sat down with a loud thud. "I should have known better than to bet against you."
"I never bet a losing hand." Takesh said.
"What was the bet?" Lihua asked.
"That after you woke up, you would come to the palace to plead for the dismissal of the investigation. I said you wouldn't because you knew it was false and you'll wait until the investigations were over. And Takeshi bet that you would come into court and plead with me to free Takeshi if there were no evidence." Nao told her as he poured wine into his cup before drinking it down quickly.
"I never leave my husband behind." Lihua tells him. "Even in the safe hands of his brother."
Nao laughed at Lihua's word. Her proud and possessive behavior made him happy that Takeshi found someone who could appreciate him.
"Good. Good. Go home and take care of him. I'm tired of seeing his mopey self!" Nao told them. "It started to become sad and disgusting."
Takeshi laughs as they bow again before leaving. "Then this King should take this King's Lady Wife home. Good day, King Brother and thanks for the precious gift for my Lady Wife. It looks wonderful on her."
After they exited the room and walked towards the exit of the courtyard, Lihua leaned in to kiss Takeshi's cheeks.
"This pink pearl necklace would look better with my clothes off!" Lihua whispered softly so he would be the only person to hear her shameless words.
Takeshi groaned loudly as he threw propriety out the door and scooped her up into his arms. He flew out of the palace, towards his estate to make her words come true.
