Seventh Step (2)
The judge found Concubine Lisa Lei of the First Class guilty of poisoning Lady Lihua. Her punishment was death. Beheading at the front gates.
Both Madam Lei's and Ciny Lei fell down with cries when they heard the verdict. Their hope to becoming tied into the royal family was suddenly taken from them. All the perks they got from Lisa being the Crown Prince's Concubine will no longer be there once she is dead. Cindy didn't even get to marry into a good family yet. Now who would marry her? She would always be known as the sister who poisoned Lady Lihua. The bright future that they were all seeing suddenly became dark and dull.
The couldn't believe how low they have fallen from the top. A series of unfortunate events has befallen them in the past couple of months. It was as if someone had attacked them from the shadows ensuring their demise. Who that person was, they didn't know.
The Lei's could do nothing as they watch the guards drag Lisa away, with her screaming and kicking all the way to the front gate. Pleading her innocence in the matter, but her pleas fell on deaf ears. They watched as they guards made her knelt forward on the stone chopping block. She cried for her father and mother as the executioner stepped forward and with one swift swing and a sharp sword. Concubine Lei's head rolled off stage.
The screams and cries of the women present were muffled behind their hands covering their mouths as some of them even closed their eyes as if they didn't see the scene in front of them. They weren't ready to see her demise so soon. They thought that her death would have come on another day, giving them time to gossip about her and her family so when the day did come, they could witness the fall of the Lei Clan. But to see it so soon after the trial, they couldn't prepare themselves for it, so it came as a surprise to them.
Everyone quickly left after the trail ended. The Lei's left first, thankful of the veils they wore. It hid their faces from the public. However, their hearts burned with injustice towards their beloved daughter's death. They were determined to find out who was behind her death and make sure to pay them back for messing with the Lei Clan.
----------
Upon returning home, Takeshi went straight to Lihua who has holed herself up in their quarters reading books on herbs, poison and antidotes.
"It is done." Takeshi said as he takes the book out from her hands and closes it before sliding by her to sit next to her. "Told the King it'll take you a month to fully heal from the poison."
"That shouldn't be a problem." Lihua said as she leaned into him, resting her head on his arm.
"You didn't get to see the trail and the execution."Takeshi said grabbing her small hands into his.
"I did." Lihua told him. "I sent my butterfly to be my eyes and ears."
Takeshi sat up straighter and looked at Lihua.
"You can do that?"
"Yes, but it takes a lot of qi away from me to do so. So far I don't have sufficient qi cultivation within me to ensure I can leave an animal behind while I'm here." Lihua tells him. "The little time I sent my butterfly to witness the trail and the execution already tired me out."
"For the next month you should practice this." Takeshi tells her. "It might come in handy one day."
"Em." Lihua said as she stands up and drags him towards their bedroom.
"Vixen, what ideas are you having right now?"
"Rogue, I'm suppose to be laid up in our bed right now." Lihua teased him. "This Lady Wife doesn't want to make you into a lair."
Takeshi laughs as he picks her up and they make their way to their chambers.
