Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none

"Oh, and Shawn, Rebecca said she wanted to talk to you for a bit," K added upon finding his composure again.

"What does she require of me?" I inquired.

"I don't know, man, she just said that if I see you, I should send you her way," K answered.

"Very well, then. I better not delay," I said as I moved toward Rebecca's chamber.

It is still extremely uncomfortable for me to enter a lady's chamber. However, I stifle my old self and attempt to appear as modern me, as Shawn.

Thus, I knock on the door with more confidence and enter upon hearing Rebecca's permission to do so.

"You wished to see me?" I queried the moment I passed the threshold.

"Yes, I did. Could you please close the door behind you?" Rebecca asked as I have left it wide open.

I did as she bid me. However, my manners did not allow me to completely shut the door. Thus, I left a small space between the door and the doorframe, which I hoped she would not notice.

"I wanted to talk to you about K," Rebecca said.

"K, yes, remarkable fellow. I hear congratulations are in order?" I said with uncertainty.

I was not aware of proper etiquette when it came to such matters at this time. However, upon taking into consideration K's level of joy, I assumed it was a much more important matter than I had initially estimated.

"Congratulations?" Rebecca asked, confused.

Before I could have an opportunity to reveal my ignorance, Rebecca recovers from surprise, seemingly understanding what I had referred to.

"You mean, that we finally got together?" she asked.

"Yes," I answered.

"Yes, he is such a sweetheart. I don't know why I didn't give him a chance before. I have liked him for quite some time. You must be very observant to notice our attraction. I thought we were both pretty good at hiding it, even from each other." Rebecca said.

Upon hearing her words, I could not help but fret if that was the truth of the matter or whether the magic pen, under my guidance, had manipulated their true feelings. Have I taken away their free will unknowingly?

Looking at Rebecca's smiling face when talking about K, it does not appear so. However, there was no way for me to judge what was real and what was just the fabrication of my imagination, driven by the power of the pen.

"That's what I wanted to talk to you about," Rebecca said.

"I beg your pardon?" I asked, afraid that she was somehow able to penetrate the sanctity of my thoughts.

"K is so sweet, and he has helped me a lot. His support and care mean the world to me. However, I am starting to feel guilty." Rebecca said.

"I am not certain I understand. Why would you be accosted by guilt? Have you done something wrong?" I asked.

"No, nothing like that, but you see, he has been spending all of his time with me. He hasn't gone out or had fun since I had the accident. I want you to convince him to go out, to have fun." Rebecca said.

"All right, if that is what you wish, I shall comply. I will allow you to rest now," I said as I approached the door.

"You two have fun!" Rebecca said.

"The two of us? What do you mean?" I asked, utterly perplexed.

"Oh, come on, Shawn. You haven't gone out to have fun since I've known you. Live a little! You should invite Marisol as well." Rebecca said.

"If we are to take your doctor with us, who is to take care of you?" I asked.

"My mother will be here any minute now. She'll take good care of me, trust me. Besides, Marisol has been working too hard these days, and she deserves a break." Rebecca said.

Relieved upon hearing the news, I nodded my head and retreated from Rebecca's chambers.

"K, I believe we should 'go out', have some fun," I said the moment I entered the kitchen.

"I would love to show you all the cool spots, my man, but Rebecca..." he said.

"Rebecca will be perfectly fine. I'll take good care of her. You guys go and have fun. But not too much fun for you, K." Marisol said in a teasing manner that I was unable to comprehend.

"As a matter of fact, Rebecca's mother will be arriving presently, and I am assured that she would be competent enough to care for her daughter. Thus, would you wish to join us on our outing, my lady?" I asked, bowing slightly.

"If that is alright with Rebecca, I would love to," Marisol said.

"I must now retire to make the necessary preparations," I said as I started retreating towards the door.

"Wait up, man, I am coming with you," K said.

As we moved far enough away from Rebecca's apartment, I was shocked by the slap on the back that K gave me.

I would have asked for an elaborate explanation for his violent behavior had he not proceeded to say some rather odd things.

"Shawn, you dog! Those were some smooth moves! I didn't know you had it in you," he said in an excited whisper.

"I beg your pardon, but I am not a canine, and I do not possess 'smooth' moves, my coordination is rather average, I am afraid," I responded.

"No, no. I meant it's good that you asked Marisol out." K explained.

Seeing that his words did not manage to dispel the fog of confusion that lay heavily on me, he proceeded to clarify.

"You must know that when you ask a woman to go with you somewhere, it means you are asking her because you like her. Even if I am third-wheeling, it's still a date." K said knowingly.

" Third-wheeling? Date?" I asked.

"Oh, my God, Shawn, haven't you ever been married or something?" K asked.

"As a matter of fact, I have," I responded proudly.

"So, how did you do it?" he asked as if addressing an infant.

"Well, I met my dear Anne, and upon a short courtship, I paid forty pounds bond for our marriage," I said honestly.

"Dude, how do you manage to always sound like you come from Victorian England?" K asked, sounding exasperated.

Since we had already reached my abode, I expected him to bid me farewell. However, he did not do so.

"I am coming in. You need help choosing your clothes, and I need to spell out everything about the dating rules that are in play now to you." K said as I unlocked my door.

My proper manners forbade me from ushering him away, but I did wish to do so since his speech was even more confusing than what I was used to from him.

"Alright, so when you like someone, you usually ask them out on a date, as you did just now," K said as we went through my apartment and into my private chambers.

"What does one do during the 'date'? I inquired, unable to curb my curiosity.

"It depends, but usually it involves some food, good wine, and getting to know each other," K said.

"That does not appear so difficult," I said.

"It's not. If you don't end up embarrassing yourself." K said.

"And how does one avoid doing that?" I asked with trepidation.

"By not saying something stupid, of course." K retorted.

The moment he explained, I started worrying about the outing more than I thought possible. After all, I had already embarrassed myself in front of Marisol with my ignorance. To repeat the same mistake would be unforgivable.

Yet, I was not sure how not to do so. After all, I could change my whole identity, but some of the traits I had in my previous life would always remain.

All I could do was try my best and hope it was enough. I have to remember what I once said: "Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none."
