XXIII. The Beginning of the Clone Wars
Chapter Twenty-Three
Anakin
As the battle raged on, the very sky seemed to darken and tremble, as if the heavens themselves were bearing witness to the unfolding events. I watched in awe as the monstrous creature tore Dooku apart, its massive form casting a shadow over the entire hall.
Maul, the Sith Lord we had come to face, stared in horror at the beast that had emerged, its purple-hued wings unfurling with a thunderous roar. I could see the fear in his eyes, the realization that he had underestimated the power that now stood before him.
But my attention was focused solely on Obi-Wan, my dear friend and mentor, who lay motionless at my feet. I crouched near him, my heart pounding in my chest, as I searched for any sign of life. And then, I felt it – the faint but steady pulse beneath my fingertips.
Obi-Wan was alive, and he would wake up soon.
Relief flooded through me, and I couldn't help but glance up at the monstrous creature that had come to our aid. Its eyes, once a fiery, Mustafarian hue, had now shifted to a piercing sky-blue, and I felt a shiver run down my spine as they locked onto me.
In that moment, I knew that this was no ordinary beast, no mere animal driven by instinct. This was a being of immense power, a force to be reckoned with, and it had chosen to stand with us against the Sith.
As I watched the creature engage Maul, its movements fluid and graceful, yet devastatingly powerful, I couldn't help but wonder at the true nature of the being that had been unleashed. Was it a friend, or a force to be feared?
But in the end, it didn't matter. All that mattered was that it had helped us, had given us the chance to save Obi-Wan. And as I felt my master's pulse grow stronger, I knew that we would face whatever came next, together.
For Obi-Wan was alive, and with him by my side, I knew that we could overcome any challenge that stood in our way.
As the monstrous creature came closer, I felt a familiar signature entwine with my own, and I realized with a start that this was no ordinary beast – it was Mira, my friend and fellow Jedi, transformed by the power of the Force.
I couldn't help but smile at her, my heart filled with a newfound sense of hope. "Obi-Wan will be fine," I said, my gaze shifting from the towering creature to the pile of ashes that had once been Count Dooku.
Now, Maul stood alone, his eyes filled with a mixture of fear and rage as he stared at the being that had so effortlessly dispatched his Sith comrade. The tables had turned, and the hunter had become the hunted.
I could feel the power radiating from Mira's transformed state, a power that seemed to crackle and hum with the very energy of the Force itself. She was a force to be reckoned with, a living embodiment of the light that had risen to challenge the darkness.
As Maul's gaze darted between Mira and Obi-Wan's prone form, I knew that he was weighing his options, trying to determine if he had the strength to take on both of us. But the fear in his eyes betrayed his true feelings – he was outmatched, and he knew it.
I moved closer to Obi-Wan, my hand resting on his shoulder as I kept a watchful eye on the Sith Lord. I knew that Mira would not let Maul escape, not after all that he had done. And I was prepared to lend my own power to the fight, if need be.
For in that moment, we were united, bound by our shared love and loyalty to our friend and mentor. Obi-Wan had always been there for us, guiding us, protecting us, and now it was our turn to stand by him, to ensure that he would live to see another day.
As Mira's transformed gaze locked onto Maul, I felt a surge of confidence coursing through me. We would prevail, I knew it in my heart. The light would triumph over the darkness, and Obi-Wan would be safe.
With a nod, I turned my attention back to my fallen master, silently willing him to open his eyes, to join us in this final confrontation against the Sith.
I was taken aback by the voice that emanated from Mira's transformed state – it was not her own, but rather a deep, rumbling growl that seemed to reverberate through the very air around us.
"Leave and never return," the voice commanded, and I couldn't help but blink in surprise. Why would she show mercy to the Sith Lord Maul, after all the pain and suffering he had inflicted?
Maul, too, seemed caught off guard by the unexpected offer. His eyes narrowed as he studied the towering creature before him, no doubt weighing the risks of defying such a powerful being.
I held my breath, torn between my desire to see Maul face justice and the realization that Mira, or whatever entity now controlled her, had a plan that I did not fully understand.
As the moments ticked by, the air thick with tension, Maul seemed to come to a decision. With a final, hateful glare, he turned and fled, disappearing into the shadows of the hallway.
I couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment, knowing that Maul had escaped once again. But the relief I felt at Obi-Wan's safety outweighed any other concerns in that moment.
Turning my attention back to my fallen master, I placed a hand on his shoulder, silently willing him to wake. Mira, or the being that had taken control of her, now loomed over us, her piercing gaze fixed on Obi-Wan's still form.
I couldn't help but wonder what she had in mind, what plan she had set in motion by sparing Maul's life. Was it a calculated move, a way to lure the Sith Lord into a trap, or was there some deeper purpose that I could not yet comprehend?
As I waited, my heart pounding with a mixture of hope and uncertainty, I knew that I would trust in Mira's judgment, even if I did not fully understand it. For she had shown her loyalty, her willingness to risk everything to protect us, and that was enough.
Now, all that mattered was Obi-Wan's recovery, and I prayed that the being that had saved us would also have the power to heal our friend and mentor.
"Take him to your ship, we shall," said Master Yoda, his voice calm and measured, as he gestured towards Obi-Wan's motionless form.
I looked down at my mentor, my heart filled with a mixture of relief and concern, and nodded in understanding. Carefully, I gathered Obi-Wan in my arms, cradling him close as I began to make my way towards the waiting ship.
Mira, her massive form still towering over us, followed closely, her taloned footsteps echoing through the sweltering heat of the Geonosis landscape.
Suddenly, the sound of engines drew my attention upwards, and I saw a dropship descending, its hatch open and beckoning. A man in a white helmet stood at the entrance, waving us forward.
"This way, General!" he called out, and I recognized the voice as belonging to one of Plo Koon's men.
I shared a brief glance with Master Yoda, who nodded in approval, before making my way towards the ship. As I approached, I saw Plo Koon himself, his arms outstretched in welcome.
"Come, friend," he said, his voice warm and reassuring, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me.
Mira, or the entity that now controlled her, paused at the edge of the ship's ramp, her eyes fixed on Obi-Wan's still form. There was a moment of hesitation, a flicker of uncertainty, before she too stepped forward, her massive bulk filling the narrow confines of the dropship.
I glanced back at Master Yoda, who had remained behind, his gaze following our retreat with a thoughtful expression. I knew that he trusted Mira, or whatever force had taken hold of her, to make the right choices, and that was enough to reassure me.
As the dropship's engines roared to life, I settled Obi-Wan onto a makeshift stretcher, my eyes never leaving his face. Plo Koon moved to my side, his hand resting on my shoulder in a gesture of comfort and support.
"He will be alright, Anakin," the Jedi Master said, his voice low and soothing. "We will get him the care he needs."
I nodded, my throat tight with emotion, and turned my gaze towards Mira, who had positioned herself protectively near Obi-Wan's prone form. In that moment, I knew that we were all in this together, united by our desire to see our friend and mentor recover.
Whatever challenges lay ahead, I was determined to face them head-on, with Mira and the rest of the Jedi by my side.
As the ship took off, I felt a mixture of happiness and unease wash over me. While I was relieved to see Obi-Wan safely aboard, I couldn't shake the feeling that what had just transpired was not the final battle, but rather the beginning of a much larger conflict.
Mira, still in her transformed state, stood at the rear of the ship, her piercing gaze fixed on the horizon. I knew that she, too, sensed the gravity of the situation, the weight of the challenges that lay ahead.
The Clone Wars had begun.
This was no longer a simple skirmish between Jedi and Sith, but the start of a galaxy-wide conflict that would test the very foundations of the Republic and the Jedi Order. I could feel the tension in the air, the palpable sense of uncertainty that hung over us like a dark cloud.
Yet, as I looked around at the faces of my fellow Jedi – Plo Koon's steady presence, Master Yoda's serene wisdom, and the unfamiliar but determined expressions of the clone troopers – I knew that we were not alone in this fight.
We would face Maul and the Sith again, of that I was certain. But with the strength and unity of the Jedi Order behind us, and the mysterious power of Mira's transformed state, I felt a renewed sense of purpose and resolve.
The road ahead would be long and arduous, filled with countless battles and untold sacrifices. But I knew, deep in my heart, that we would prevail. The light would triumph over the darkness, and Obi-Wan would be there to guide us, to lead us through the trials to come.
As the ship soared through the skies of Geonosis, I turned my gaze towards Obi-Wan's still form, silently vowing to do whatever it took to ensure his recovery and the success of our mission. The Clone Wars had begun, and we would be ready, united in our determination to protect the galaxy and uphold the Jedi's sacred oath.
