XLVII. In Each Other's Arms
Chapter Forty-Seven
Anakin
I stood anxiously in the hangar, the hum of the ship's engines reverberating through the cold metal floor. Time seemed to stretch endlessly as I awaited Master Plo's return. My heart raced with anticipation, each moment tinged with worry for Miela and the other children. The tension in the air felt heavy, almost suffocating.
Finally, the sleek silhouette of Master Plo's ship descended from the sky, its landing gear extending as it touched down with a low thud. I rushed forward, my pulse quickening, barely able to contain my relief at seeing my wife safely returning. As the ramp lowered and the hatch opened, I spotted her stepping out, looking weary yet determined.
"Mira!" I called out, my voice breaking slightly with emotion. I dashed toward her, my heart swelling at the sight of her familiar figure. "Are you alright?" I asked, the concern in my voice palpable as I reached her side.
Her eyes met mine, filled with a mixture of exhaustion and relief. "I'm fine, Anakin," she replied, though I could see the tension etched in her features. "We managed to save two of the children, but—"
I interrupted her, my worry spilling over. "But what? What happened? Is the third child—"
She shook her head, a look of sadness crossing her face. "They took her to the dark side, Anakin. We couldn't get to her in time."
A knot tightened in my stomach at her words, a sharp pang of guilt and anger surging through me. I had wanted to be there, to help. The thought of that innocent child lost to the darkness ignited a fire within me. "We will get her back," I vowed, determination surging through my veins. "I won't let them take her without a fight."
Master Plo approached, his calm demeanor a stark contrast to the turmoil inside me. "We must regroup and devise a plan," he said, his voice steady. "Time is of the essence, and the dark side will not rest."
I nodded, my focus shifting from my wife to our mission. "Let's gather the others and figure out our next steps." My mind raced with strategies, possibilities, and the hope that we could still bring the lost child back from the brink.
As Mira reached for my hand, I felt the warmth of her touch grounding me amid the chaos. Together, we could face whatever challenges lay ahead.
As we entered the chamber, the atmosphere shifted. The air felt lighter, filled with the soft murmur of the children's voices. My heart swelled with relief at the sight of them—safely gathered, their faces illuminated with the warm glow of hope. The tension that had gripped me since we left Mustafar began to ease, if only slightly.
Master Yoda stood in the center of the room, a gentle smile gracing his wise features. "Safe they are now," he said, his voice a soothing balm to my anxious heart. The way he spoke always seemed to carry a weight of reassurance, as if he could sense the turmoil within me.
I turned to Mira, whose eyes sparkled with gratitude and relief as she took in the scene. She met my gaze, and I could see the pride in her expression. We had done well, despite the odds stacked against us.
Nearby, Obi-Wan stood with his arms crossed, observing us quietly. When our eyes met, he nodded, a silent acknowledgment of our efforts and the trials we had faced. There was a certain warmth in his expression, a reassurance that he was proud of both Mira and me. It was comforting to know that, despite the hardships, we had made a difference and saved those children from their fate.
I felt a rush of determination surge through me. We had rescued two, and even though we hadn't been able to save the third, I knew we would find a way to bring her back. The bond of family—both blood and chosen—was stronger than the darkness that threatened to pull us apart.
"Master Yoda, what are our next steps?" I asked, eager to strategize and ensure the safety of the children.
"Protect they must, the children," he replied, his expression shifting to one of seriousness. "Prepare for the darkness, we must. Strong it is, and cunning."
I exchanged glances with Mira and Obi-Wan, the urgency of our mission clear in our eyes. The path ahead would be fraught with danger, but together, we would face whatever challenges awaited us. The fire in my heart grew stronger; I would not rest until the lost child was found and safe.

I was sitting in my quarters, the soft glow of the lights illuminating the space as I read through some reports, my mind still racing from the day's events. Suddenly, a soft knock interrupted my concentration. I looked up and saw my wife standing at the door, a radiant smile breaking across her face.
"Mira," I whispered, a rush of warmth flooding through me. The moment she stepped inside, she threw herself into my arms, and I hugged her tightly, enveloping her in my embrace. Her breath brushed against my neck, sending a shiver of joy down my spine.
"You're here," I murmured, feeling an overwhelming sense of relief. In that moment, all the chaos of the galaxy faded away, leaving only the two of us. She pulled back slightly to look into my eyes, and I could see the love reflected there, mingled with the remnants of worry from our recent mission.
"You're safe," she said softly, her voice filled with emotion. I nodded, a smile tugging at my lips as I took in how beautiful she looked, even amidst the stress. The way her hair fell around her shoulders and the light in her eyes made my heart swell. I loved her so much—more than words could express.
"I couldn't stand the thought of losing you," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. The events of the day had shown me just how fragile life could be, and I knew I had to cherish every moment we had together. "After everything that happened on Mustafar..."
"Anakin," she interrupted gently, cupping my face in her hands. "We're together now, and that's what matters." Her touch was a soothing balm, grounding me amidst the storm of emotions swirling within.
I leaned into her palm, feeling the warmth radiate from her skin. "You make everything feel right," I said, my heart full. "No matter what happens, I will always fight for you—for us."
A smile broke across her face, brightening the room. "And I will always be by your side," she promised.
In that moment, I knew we could face anything together. With her, I felt invincible. I pulled her in closer, resting my forehead against hers, savoring the intimacy of the moment. We were bound by love, forged in the fires of our trials, and together, we would rise against any darkness that dared to threaten us.
