Chapter 3

"Stay back," someone whispered in Elven. "She's waking up."

I opened my eyes to a candlelit room and surrounded by Elves. They were all different in cases of race, gender, and even their uniforms. Most had this camouflage outfit that consisted of tights, a shirt with barely any sleeves, and a jacket with some brown boots. However, even though they probably all had different types of jobs, they all had a bow and quiver with them.

And then my headache came in.

I winced as the pain shot from my right temple and spread all throughout my head. By Ether, I hate migraines.

"Who are you people?" I asked slowly in Elven.

They all gasped.

"She speaks out language!" One said.

"She's a monster!" Another shrieked.

"By God, she is just a human..." a raspy voice said from farther away.

Everyone turned their heads behind them and made way for this old man. He had long, white hair, a short graying beard, and he was wearing a white robe while using a long staff to help him walk. His eyes remained unfocused, and it made me believe that he was blind.

"Can't you hear the accent?" He said as he slowly walked to my right side. "She's from the North. She's a traveler just trying to get by."

I just stared at him. How can he tell that by just listening to me? I suppose being blind makes you hear things better. They basically act as your eyes.

"You..." he gestured me to sit up. How does he- y'know what, I'm not going to question this anymore.

I sat up and spoke in Elven. "Where am I? Who are you?"

He chuckled. "Isn't it obvious who we are?" He pointed to his pointed ears. He was a full elf seeing how large they were. "We're the elves of the Elven Forest."

Wait... I traveled that far? How did I not notice?

"How...?" I asked, skeptical. "I merely traveled for a week! I wouldn't even be that far from Loyola."

The old elf smiled. "You traveled through the Seasonal. That forest is enchanted. If someone travels through it for long enough, they will end up closer to their destination than they realize. But it is a very dangerous voyage through it. Especially during the late fall."

"I could tell... the branches were falling as I went by."

He chuckled. "I see you are a defensive rider. No one is able to dodge those branches because they don't pay attention to everything."

That sounds more paranoid than defensive now that he says it that way. Am I paranoid? I don't think so...

"Can you stand?" He then asked. "From what I've heard, seems that my scouts had hit you in the head with their greatest force."

"I believe so..."

I slowly got up from the oak bed. I wobbled a bit, so I had to hold onto the head rest for balance. By Ether, what did they hit me with to lower my motor function? I feel like I'm drunk yet full aware of my surroundings. I looked at the elf again.

"I can manage," I finally replied.

"Jid..." a female elf spoke. "Why are you being so hospitable to this human? She could be dangerous."

"What harm can she do if she isn't even near her weapons?" Jid, which mean grandfather in Elven, asked the elf. "Besides, she can barely stand. I merely want to know why she's here and why my scouts decided to knock her unconscious without reason."

He glared at all of the elves. Sheesh, even if he's blind, his eyes still hold a cold gaze.

"W-well," a male one spoke. "She could see us with our camouflage. Our uniforms are at the top they've been decades ago. She has the eyes of a God or another elf to be able to see us."

I could sense Jid's focus on me now. "Is that so..." He then pointed his staff at me. "Where do you come from, young human?"

"I come from Altan," I said.

"Lies. You're accent is not Altanic. Where were you born?"

"Born?"

"Yes... where is your place of origin?"

I took a deep breath before speaking. "...Balt."

All of the elves' gave me a look of shock. I knew what they were thinking. Even since Balt burned down to nothing, many have wondered who was a survivor of such a brutal attack. All of the women did escape, but many died by the harsh woods and forests, or by attacks along side roads. And their children? I'm not sure. It's been years since that happened.

"The ocean-side town?" Jid added.

"Y-yes," I replied. "I escaped from there when I was seventeen."

"Did you have any other that survived with you?"

"...No. I am the only survivor in my family."

"What is your name, child?"

"Gunnhild Nalid."

An odd wave of tension rose through the air.

"And who sent you here?"

I knew this was coming. Should I tell the truth and tell them a troll sent me here? No. That would be stupid of me. They wouldn't trust me if a troll sent me here.

"My mentor. She told me to come here to help me with my magic."

I heard some snickering come from the elves.

"A human with magic?" Jid said. "The last human who I knew had magic was Jasmine Crystalline."

"And I am her descendant."

"She has multiple descendants! And none of them have magic!" He chuckled. "Prove to me that you have just a trace of this here 'magic.'"

Fine. I will.

I carefully walked over to the center of the room. Now that I have a good look of it, it was inside of a tree. The room had the oak's trunk as its walls, the roof was a dense mix of the leaves and its branches, and there were multiple beds everywhere. There were also many herb filled containers and bandages on the tables. I'm assuming this is a hospital for scouts of some sort.

I walked into the center of the room, and I put my hands close to my heart. I listened to the wind that rustled within the leaves and I took deep breaths. Flow... flow with the wind and water. Become one with yourself...

Listen to your heartbeat.

As soon as I knew that I was connected to my spirit, I took my hands off my heart and held out my palms to reveal a little fire. The elves all stepped back in panic, and their gasps were enough to see that they were more than shocked.

I felt the fire's heat in my hands. It felt like a little heartbeat. I then realized that its heartbeat was synchronized with my own. I then decided to play around with it. I split the fire into two, one in each hand. I let them spin around one another until they turned into a fiery heart.

And it beat like a normal heart as well...

"By Ether..." Jid said, feeling his own heart. "The prophecy is true..."

He then looked to one his elves and whispered something to them. They nodded as they quickly left the hospital though a ladder that led to lower floors. Jid then turned his head back to me and spoke. But what he said made me a little confused and offended.

"Gunnhild Nalid was your name, correct?" He asked, a little hesitant.

"Yes... why?" I asked.

"...So you're the Demon Lord's succubus."

K.C.T: Welp... that's awkward. YAY AWKWARD ENDINGS! Yeah... ummm... so I've been updating more. Heh... *Ahem* I've made a thing for myself that one weekends I would work a little bit on this book. That way I can have a steady schedule on writing my chapters and actually not be in such a long hiatus. Because I know that those can get annoying, and I am very sorry. So expect more chapters coming you way! But for now, everybody say bai! OOWAY! <3
