4. Begin the Chaos
Mildred found peace in the darkness, the powerful wind moving through her long, dark hair. The six stood under the soft moonlight falling in the clearing, surrounded by immensely tall trees. The loud rustling of leaves was chaotic and amplified by the powerful presence that now persisted through the land. Yet there was the comfort of nature in the sound, and a deep care for the demons. The land was their home, after all.
Over the course of many years, Shadow-Trappers and Demons developed a hostility due to emotional influence. Entropy increases with time and so does the disarray of emotions, causing the birth of Demonic Creatures and Wind Phoenexias. When and how had it all happened? Mildred wished to see the time when all Shadow Beings were in absolute peace, when they shared their worlds.
"I wonder what sort of trees they are. Brier would know," Kasia spoke with curiosity yet remained vigilant, observing her surroundings.
"Brier always knows. She can speak to nature, to life. Oh that must be amazing!"
Zoey spoke with pride, the moonlight momentarily in her brown eyes. She explored the land with haste, her movements causing her ginger braid to bounce about excitedly.
"Don't wander off. Looking for you would be the greatest task of all."
Zoey shot a somewhat proud look towards Kasia, earning an unimpressed expression.
"Don't worry. Ethel's there. The guy can locate my exact position in the universe."
"You leave me to my peace, please," Ethelred responded at the mention of his name.
"Never."
Zoey shot a wink towards him, shifting her focus to the land. The six soon resumed their exploration with only Mildred observing in a stationary position. Her eyes remained open with no expression on her face, realising the energy of the land. It was the same all across, a tranquillity amidst the chaos, though a burning sensation had begun to form in various pockets of this universe.
"Ethelred, can you amplify the electromagnetic radiations of that area?" Mildred entered Ethelred's mind for a brief moment, making his senses recognise the only odd aura in a large region.
Ethelred nodded slowly as he took a few step towards it. Not losing the sense of the aura for the smallest moment, he brought his Yuran out. A long and thin sword formed in his hand, little red sparks going around it. Ethelred concentrated further and the blade disappeared, only the hilt remaining.
As if water drifted towards the source of the aura, the light travelled in visible waves, spreading across the area. The surroundings gradually brightened with a green glow, the red disappearing as they continued to amplify the infrared light.
"It's very cold, isn't it? I sense an enormous wavelength," Zoey said as she moved towards the spot.
"Keep your distance, Zoey. But yes, you're right. The wave is constantly changing, as if something is interfering..."
Zoey rushed towards her previous spot, a blue leaf sitting where her hair was tied.
"Everyone stay back. Zindel, please...do your thing when you sense an objects particles. And do not levitate it accidentally, please."
Seeing the woman in an anxious state was often next to impossible. Ethelred already worried, though he remained focused at the tasks at the present, keeping his Yuran's effect at a low level.
A thin and short man came forward, holding an aura of confidence and curiosity in his brown eyes. For a brief moment his hand rested on his hair as he fiddled with it to ease his mind, returning to the present with a casual look.
Zindel raised an arm up, moving it around till it stopped towards the direction of the source. He closed his eyes, a tingling sensation exciting his fingers though he was careful to not alter the particles in the slightest.
His eyes opened abruptly with a concerned expression. "What did you sense, Zoey?"
"It felt as if there are two things in some sort of system, one which is lethal and the other is safe, like for our safeguard. Everything was tangled and I couldn't make sense of it.
"What is it?"
Zindel remained silent as he stared at a fixed spot before shaking his head.
"There is only one object here, though it is linked with another one that is at some other point in the universe, and hopefully both are contained in something. Right now they are both dangerous and protective at the same time; until we don't open the container, we won't know what's going to happen."
"How long has it been there for?" Kasia asked in a whisper.
"Before that, where is it?"
Mildred gave a small smile as Thet finally asked the necessary question. She walked towards the container with her arm stretched out, stopping at a short distance from it at the opposing sensation.
"This cube area, this is the container. Everything around it is green, but this spot is still completely black, as if there's a tear in the land that opens up to space."
The air around the black space moved in ripples. A moment later a thin man appeared near the box, unsettling darkness resting in his grey gaze. Mildred saw a small spark of the brightest light ever reflect in there, narrowing her eyes to make sense of it.
"Thet, what do you see?"
Thet concentrated further before sighing.
"Nothing, just traces of the object being everywhere. Why?"
"I see a light source in your eye, and its aura is much beyond normal understanding."
Thet didn't move a bit. "What does it look like?"
"It's not something I saw, but rather sensed. In terms of sight, it is a violet star with little sparks of other colours on the surface. However, one half of it is black."
"Zindel, why are you grinning?"
Kasia was now worried, because she knew that trouble always followed Zindel's grin. Mildred turned towards the man in question, though Thet still remained unmoved.
"There is something inside there and for some reason, Mildred sees it in Thet's eye. He has the power of invisibility and Mildred can pinpoint Thet's analysis because of her ability of mind-control, so I understand that. Mildred, what is your Yuran?"
Mildred sighed, looking back towards Thet who now paid attention to the discussion. She faced Zindel again with a smile of regret.
"It is not something that is explainable. You must experience it to understand." Mildred spoke softly, as if her sound would alter the memory of what she just saw.
"That is fine. What I do understand is that everything Mildred sees is plain, raw. She's been into the minds of many and is our leader. Her Yuran must be something that lets her see what is, but probably something more complex too.
"For now, what we need to know is that the object is in a state of superposition. The lethal part is the black half and the safer part is the violet one. Kasia, tell me about its energy. Does it seem connected to something?"
A parchment appeared in Kasia's hand, foreign symbols being formed on it. Few moments passed as she studied it, her face relaxing when she understood.
"There's another object, like its partner that is in some other place in the universe. The thinnest line of energy, undetectable by almost everything connects it across all dimensions. As long as it remains in the container it can never be destroyed, even if you destroy one object. They're entangled.
"Also, the energy remains of the surroundings indicate that the entity has not been only in this area of the land."
"Why?" Zoey asked with a frown.
"This is the farthest point from the Abyss of Chaos and yet holds a deep connection with it. There is also an air of protectiveness and isolation, especially now that we're here. It seems to originate from there. If you go beyond that point the surroundings won't change, but I suppose you can meet demons.
"Something is protecting this land, but from what?"
Mildred's eyes widened as she sat down, placing her ear on the ground. Tension filled the atmosphere, though everyone remained patient.
"Where is the leader of the Demons?"
Zoey began to fret, pacing around the trees.
"I wish Brier was here. God I wish she was here."
Kasia couldn't help but nod now, turning towards Ethelred for information.
"You're the one who best knows-"
Ethelred rose his arm up, frowning in concentration. Mildred stood up and looked at him with curiosity, realising what was going on. She gestured for everyone to remain absolutely silent, no one even breathing for those moments.
Ethelred gave a short nod before turning towards the others, wonder and bewilderment in his eyes.
"The land... I think they spoke to me."
