2. Perceptive Answers
Mildred stood patiently amidst the tensed atmosphere, a little smile on her face. Her tall figure emanated reassurance, though the event of a Cardinal Gathering was very rare, and the fact was not a comfort to the Shadow-Trappers.
Especially for those who felt the dread.
The members of the council slowly assembled behind her while exchanging glances, though they never broke their silence as an action of discipline. Almost no expression of agitation was shown on their faces; they needed to be strong to lead the others. All Shadow-Trappers over the age of fifteen stood in neat rows - around 10000 of them. The wind from various holes and windows kept the room well-ventilated, though the aura of the council members played a vital role.
"Good evening everyone," Mildred said softly, letting the platforms in the walls carry her sound to every corner of the room. A unanimous nod erupted through the crowds, though few movements were wary. Mildred stood in a firm stance with her legs apart, her dark hair falling on her shoulders, though she felt free as it stayed tied in a firm hold. For a moment Mildred focused on the breeze fiddling with it, her warm-hearted sensation moving towards the others to alleviate them.
"The flash of green you all saw last night was no ordinary light. This day has been anticipated since the beginning of the universe and so we must understand what is happening. Every Shadow-Trapper is equally important and this is a matter delicate with the existence of the fifth dimension or as we know it, the Shadow Dimension. Very few of you may have begun to understand what it really is and that is alright. It is something that cannot be explained and something we do not have the time to discuss.
"Since the beginning of this universe a dimension had existed that expands and evolves along with the universe, though at a much smaller scale. The dimension had been guarded by two entities; one that held thoughts, perception and impulses if we are to define it with words, and its name is Triyeal. The other is named Sousconic, the holder of emotional energy and feelings, and that green light indicated its arrival. These entities, however, never leave the dimension as they do not need to. They can see any and every point of spacetime within it.
"Sousconic is the one who gathers all emotional energy discarded by all creatures and returns it to the universe in a neutral form. This is essential as the fabric of our dimension is made of neutral energy. That is also how the first particles existed, evolving from pure energy. However, the entity exists for greater reason and we don't know why the entity is here, though we do have few things to do."
Silence spread across the hall, uncertainty and little reverence marking the Shadows' expressions. The emotions appeared to have deepened under the effect of the previous night.
"We all need to understand the entity, as much as we can. When the time comes we may have to sympathise with it," Brier broke the silence, a melancholic compassion in her green gaze.
"This has been its responsibility since the beginning of the universe, and we can't blame it for what's happening. Imagine holding every emotion in the universe since its beginning. Everything evolves and sentient beings are increasing in number exponentially. Animals, Human Beings, alien life forms and beings of other dimensions may not hold a lot of power individually, but the smallest beings together make a sphere of great influence. Idiocy and ignorance does not affect Triyeal, but anger and the likes of it affect Sousconic.
"We used to explore the universe billions of years ago, when we had no materialistic form-"
"Sorry for the interruption," came a deep and thoughtful voice, a brief silence spreading through the hall. "but does the entity have a materialistic form?"
Mildred turned towards Ethelred with a contemplative look. An interruption from the leader of amplified strength was unusual, but his point made Mildred feel foolish.
"If the entity can channel its power physically, then it can affect the Seven Lands of Quintessence with unimaginable degrees of consequence."
Brier nodded but looked wary, almost a little disappointed.
"We shouldn't treat the entity as if it were some beast without knowing about its present form. It is a being that is much higher than us, after all."
Ethelred and Brier shared a look and the former nodded, settling the discussion. The members of the council knew that the cause of Ethelred's assumption was the dread that had emanated from the burst of power. However, one thing they could never be was judgemental. Truth was a perception, but nothing should be solely be based on emotions.
A hand rose amidst the crowd and Mildred gave her the permission to speak.
"Have you tried locating the entity? Maybe that can tell us something," said the experienced voice and Mildred nodded thoughtfully.
"I'll do so immediately."
Mildred closed her eyes, focusing on the heat that radiates from the ground, recognising the waves. She followed its path to the energy of the Earth, connecting her senses to it and they began looking for the familiar green light. Moments may have passed through everything other than energy seemed insignificant in that space.
Suddenly a strong vibration came from a dark section of her vision, sending a shiver of absolute power through her. Mildred approached it carefully as if walking into a room of children fast asleep, her thoughts suddenly filled with compassion.
Nothing met her sight but an oddly familiar sensation immediately gave her answer.
Mildred opened her eyes slowly, seeming as respectable as ever, though uncertainty now marked her expression.
"The entity is in the abyss of Earth, and is making its way to the Land of Chaos."
Other than a few gasps everyone remained in a confused or daunted silence, yet awaited the words of their leaders. Every land carried a certain energy with it and though none was negative or positive, something told Mildred that what would become of the entity was not going to be good.
"What do we do now?" a simple tone voiced everyone's thoughts. The Shadow-Trappers' eyes turned towards Kasia who now stood with a contemplative look in her blue gaze before Brier interrupted her thoughts.
"I think that is the wrong question. What we really should be asking is what is that we need to know?"
"What has happened to the entity. What have they become," Kasia replied immediately, the others nodding in approval.
"Then there is one thing to do now," Mildred said in her soft tone, her eyes holding the confidence of a leader.
"We must go to The Land of Chaos."
