17. Silence of a Grey Smile

A dark atmosphere lay before Thet's sight, radiating waves of quiet comfort. Thick grass and enormous trees grew with a sense of a bond, a bond to protect existence's emotions from harming the nature of their thoughts. A weightless bond, it existence absolute.

The wind blew softly with a string of gentle notes ringing in the distance, maintaining an accompanied solitude across the land, though the essence was maintained by its enlightened spirit.

A subtle wave of sorrow entered the atmosphere and the land immediately recognised its presence. A deep and silent sound produced empathy, the smallest dust of energy floating towards that wave with the aim of alleviating the innocent soul. When it neared the end of its passage the speck of dust merged with the radiating like; a particle and a wave. There was a bright burst of sea-green energy, and a ball of mass was formed, settling softly on the land's dark grass.

Time passed and the spirit found some company in that dormant sphere of energy. It was a foreign sensation, one that didn't really affect the spirit, but the kind integrity certainly affected the sea-green ball, merging with the negativity and innocence it was born of.

One day that sphere erupted, energy pouring out of its illuminated cracks. A strong and cold wind blew as the sphere vanished, letting a small figure clad in a black cloth appear. It's expression was calm with sorrow hidden, but a new sensation had come in the land.

Life had come in the land of death, in the land where existence closed and tranquillity opened.

It was the land's first disturbance, a beautiful disturbance. Perhaps time passed and perhaps it didn't, but soon many such disturbances lived in the land, letting a sort of brightness flow into the land.

Life's mass was accumulated on the land, bringing its existence to visibility. Emotions rose discretely, soft melancholy being the sole recognisable one. The land cared for this life, the nature gave them a home.

One day, a few of the beings wandered the lands till they came across a clear pond, the vapours elating their minds. A strong force originated from its depths, pulling the beings closer to the surface and within it. They remain for a few moments with empty thoughts until a new but familiar thought echoed in their minds, taking the form of a language of one of the land's inhabitants.

Earth.

A bright flash of light came before the beings found themselves within a dark space, devoid of all clutter in the mind. Slowly did the settings reveal themselves and the creatures found themselves amidst a large garden, the bright sunlight scattered by the green blades of the tall trees. A sense of joy mostly hung about the air, the world illuminated in that morning.

However, one of the creatures sensed a highly familiar emotion. Its loose strands pulled at the her mind, the creature's mind, and she approached a boy that lowered his head, water flowing from his eyes.

An expression of sorrow. Tears. Crying.

The Being attempted to recognise the kindness of the nature around her, but the boy's agitation reached towards her. She stretched her hand towards the boy but it only passed through. A sudden force made them retreat to her eyes, and odd wetness slipping through the fingers.

Water. Tears. She cried. She didn't know why, but she felt the sorrow and that caused her to cry.

The box in her vessel that produced her sound grew hoarse and empty, as if the tears fell to remove the air from it. Suddenly a shriek echoed from that box, further amplifying the sorrow. The boy now stopped crying and wore a dejected expression, a truly heavy feeling weighed on his thoughts.

It was then that a silent being came to the scene, raising a misty stream of water to enter the vessel of the being. He was surprised but he only expressed kindness and comfort on his face, using his ability to close off the creature's thoughts. The boy's face pursed his lips to assure the people surrounding him, even if that emotion hadn't completely dispersed.

The blue energy of the new being cleansed the creature's energy, pulling her into a gentle sleep. Her sight closed as she gently stood in her spot, her other companions being pulled to her dormancy. The last thing she saw was the smile of a shadow as brightness filled the atmosphere, the man disappearing out of sight.

So kind... so pure...

The creature felt an odd happiness and so did Thet, the scene fading out to welcome a disheartening one.

-

When did this all change?

The creature wondered with melancholy in his mind, as sorrow rested on the expression of his executioner's face. His body disintegrated into black shards as life slipped away from him, his soul escaping from the vessel. Being within the moment between life and true death, the soul travelled to the vessel's home.

So much chaos lay about its soil, creatures of sentiments scattered over the land. Once absolute peace of an end's beginning was what composed of its aura. But now, life interfered with the essence of Tenebris's nature, of Azrael's nature.

Even soul the presence was at peace, escaping the vessel and being a soul. It had understood that it would be born once again, somewhere else. Perhaps the beginning of the Demonic Creatures was wrong, almost as if emotions took a form of life. Even so, that life had been... something. It mattered, definitely. It held meaning, at least for the soul. Even if the soul were to forget it.

A gush of wind brushed away the weightless form, taking it into an unknown dimension till the spirit was reborn. In that moment the soul remembered its 'past', its information, and knew that by attaining true enlightenment it would remember everything. Have no mind, but know everything in the consciousness by being a part of the One.

And thus, the scene faded away.

-----

Thet remained motionless, unsure of what to do or say.

"Did you sense the disorder of those emotions?"

Thet hesitated, his mind lost in too many thoughts.

"Yes... it was chaotic."

Stating the obvious helped Thet, but... oh.

Vlad only wanted him, no, everyone to understand the obvious. Thet thought that the Shadows did understand the situation. He, especially, knew what the state of the emotions were. But to put it all that way, by the perspective of the Demonic Creatures themselves...

"Do you think life holds meaning?"

Silence filled the space as Thet interrupted his own line of thought, a confusing notion for the being present.

"Life holds meaning, yes. It holds meaning to the individual living their life, and thus its meaning is decided by the living being. Life is a word that varies by everyone, but it really is something that ends. It is because it ends that it holds meaning. Joy, sorrow, despair, hope, anger... all of these are impulses that begin an end and each emotion is also caused by something that ends. If any emotion were to last forever, it would hold no meaning.

"Living Beings need wars to appreciate unity, curiosity to appreciate knowledge, melancholy to appreciate happiness, naivety to appreciate wisdom, and loneliness to understand peace.

"Souls are everlasting and do not end because they are not existing, not a part of existence. True peace is not a sensation or a notion; it is true. All things end and that is okay, because ending it is what makes sure they ever existed. They must end for it to matter. That is why Life is beautiful while the Soul is. Perhaps some will argue that it is better to only experience life again and again, even if they do not remember the past births, but for how long? Even existence must end. After all, all in existence must end.

"And that is okay."

The trauma in Thet's mind still fought his thoughts, but now things had begun to clear away. He wondered if the being, the entities and the emotion really made him face a trial. Perhaps learning was also a trial...

It threatened to crush his mind, but the Shadow now released all emotional energy. A grey smile was in the expression of his aura and for a moment, all Demonic Creatures collectively felt peace.

United peace in Solitude. How it should've been for him.

All negativity immediately left the Shadow, and even the Demons felt their minds with no burden, the strain of holding everything in their sub consciousness disappearing for the time. It was only Thet in a grey bubble, and existence laying outside, it all being connected to him.

"Thank you, Vlad."
