16. Relativity
The blanket couldn't last for long but it the momentary comfort calmed the being, perhaps preventing a horrible outburst. The silence was so calming, devoid of all signs of a haunting obsession of simple anger.
The moment the sensation disappeared, an odd longing found its way into the innocent emotion's mind. He sensed the gradual arousal of the unconscious Shadows, their minds filled with bewilderment but doing their best to remain composed.
"All of you Shadows... return home. You simply had to see what was to come. Perhaps by opposing time I have made a mistake but well... unfortunately, I now oppose all of you."
Heavy impulses spread across the void, shivers of uncertainty running through every Shadow's minds.
"I will not let you commit any sin. No, I cannot. No..."
"How do you decide what a sin is?" Zoey asked with a wavering firmness, though she truly believed that to kill or to take away the essence of life was the greatest sin in existence.
"Sins are relative, I suppose. To kill is not a sin, or at least, not for everyone. An animal hunts its prey for their own survival. The Phoenexias would never even lay their eyes on someone else's value, respecting every individual. The Muarat that maintain a realm of horrors for all species, for what opposes the notion of living life and seeing an oblivious world. The Caifyp, hiding within the blanket of emotions as they push away disorder of lonely beings. A sin is that which is committed against one's own nature. One can also not allow another to commit something that is a sin for themselves.
"At first it may seem that the nature's if the Muarat and the Caifyp are opposites, but they share the notion of quietude and leaving reality for better or worse. However, there other deeds cause them to be each other's opposite and often strive to remove the other's influence on an individual.
"Antagonism in this world exists when beings oppose each other's nature and it is not necessary that everyone is constant with the nature that they are born with; changes are seen often. It is in a Demonic Creature's nature to help a living being realise the negativity in their emotions, but the outcome is not always certain, whether they are able to overcome it or not. You Shadows help them and maintain a balance of the energy in the world while Demonic Creatures are both of that energy, depleting it.
"You two species go against each other. No one is to blame put in the future, for you all to commit the sin of killing is inevitable for you must fulfil the greater demand of your nature. I have to try and fulfil my nature and cannot allow for such things to happen. The Demonic Creatures have to go; they weren't meant to exist in the first place."
Bizarre thoughts rose in the minds of the Shadows, once again allowing a subtle destructive force to rise. Mildred now spoke, her soft tone passing serenity for brief moments, subduing any invisible danger.
"It is against existence's nature to bring the future in the past. Do you wish to oppose existence itself? Why are the Shadows from the future here? Why did you show us that 'glimpse of the future'?
"As far as sins go, we cannot allow you to commit genocide. You're an emotion, an incredibly necessary one. Rage cannot be destroyed and we will not allow Vlad to destroy that emotion."
The snicker that surrounded the Shadows pierced their composure.
"You do not even know who Vlad is. No one does, other than perhaps Sousconic."
The thought was daunting and yet still aroused curiosity in the Shadows and especially Zindel. Although, Mildred couldn't help but notice how Vlad ignored her question in regards to the future.
"I defy your morals, Shadows and those of nature, and you defy mine. This is why I now oppose you.
"If making you learn of your future will not help, perhaps I must do the opposite."
"The future is undecided. There is only that which is more probable," Zindel spoke with a humble confidence, though a slow realisation deepened his tone.
"I wonder, are we Shadows and the Beings of the universe truly free? If what you showed does not happen, it is likely that the Shadows from the future will not be present here. Perhaps by going against nature, we will slip into an alternate universe? An illusion?"
A threatening silence now filled the void and the five Shadows turned their attention to their friend. Zindel had spoken the thought with in a suppressed manner, not allowing the rest of the Shadows of the present to hear what he had spoken.
"For the living creatures, yes, but never for the Shadows," Vlad spoke with a wavering determination, the slightest sense of fear evident in the tone. The rest of the Shadows were no confused as they minutely senses such a sensation, though the Shadows from the future took upon their roles to ease their minds. No matter the timeline, Shadow Beings were Shadow Beings, and the Shadow Council would fulfil their duty to aid the Shadow-trappers.
"What is the situation in the 'present', anyway?" Clement asked with the sense of a casual tone and now Ila was intrigued. They had been silent all along and Clement had noticed Jay and Pranetra's aura with a deep understanding. He realised that the feeling of so many fears, the feeling that two of his friends really weren't 'Shadows' had been right all along.
"Empty your thoughts and recognise the ones I show you," Mildred said softly. Clement suddenly felt a tender connection with that Shadow, as if it came from a bond made in the future. The Shadow shook it off and he, along with the other four Shadow-Trappers, concentrated on the leader's hidden aura.
The thinnest golden thread appeared, carrying the knowledge of that time. The impulses silently flooded the minds of the Shadows, carrying the knowledge of the three techniques that were practiced and the four that were known but not physically used. Admiration rose in their minds and somewhere deep within, a heavy feeling dragged their thoughts slowly, something that now seemed to haunt their past deeds.
"Yuran... it's oddly familiar," Umbra thought, travelling into the past of her memories but unable to find an answer.
"The Yuran is a fundamental part of a physical Shadow because that is what connects us to our consciousness. By learning of its existence you would've started to recognise its presence," Mildred replied.
"You two... you already know about this and more, don't you?
"Who are you?"
Mildred made sure to never sound demanding and the two beings appreciated her sincerity. Genal spoke softly and Mildred felt a bizarre connection with the Shadow, an emotion of deep respect for the being.
"That is for you to understand. As of now, we are Shadow Beings."
Mildred knew that Pranetra didn't speak with full honesty but for that moment, it was enough to ease the Shadow's understanding.
"If your little discussion is over I shall transport you back to your timelines."
The thought echoed with distaste, the bittersweet aura of a liking and disappointment lingering in its tone.
"You brought us here in the first place, didn't you? Why leave us now?"
"I never brought you here, your curiosity did. Another trait of a sentient being, only they learn as time progresses and you forget. At least your spirit's bond and your essence remains unlike there's, which doesn't degrade, but it's slow and is often lost.
"Worldly affairs swarm their minds."
"Perhaps it was something more than our curiosity that brought us here." Ila's thought sounded with an elated glint. The other Shadows understood her line of thought and a spark of agreement lighted.
"We're not leaving," Thet said softly. Vlad's aura suddenly felt dark, an ominous vibe which's target was unknown.
"Although, what about the rest of the Shadow-trappers from our time? Why were they brought here?"
"I fed your curiosity with something more than what is allowed to be given. Besides, they were in the abyss which is connected to the dimension."
"Curiosity is natural," Zindel said firmly and the rest of the five.
"You never needed curiosity because you realised All. Do the spirits of the seven lands wander about in search of knowledge?
"You are the Shadows of Nature."
A powerful sensation vibrated through the void, as if a pernicious wind were gradually amplifying its effect, forcing its way into the minds of the six. A crippling frequency made their physical consciousness senseless, helping them attain a painful freedom, an existence free of duty and absolutely beyond the bounds of time, even within the dimension.
Pure mind, pure soul. Indecipherable.
"Perhaps it's finally time for you to face your trials."
