Chapter Twenty Four: Frozen

Halone woke up to the sound of carrion crows cawing as they circled overhead, casting black shadows on her like angels of death, when suddenly she felt a sharp jab in her flank followed by the sound of tearing.

Her eyes bolted open from the pain and she jolted to her feet, when her eyes landed on a crow that had moments earlier been eating her alive, as evidence by the slither of her flesh in its beak.

As soon as she had jumped up she stumbled almost drunkenly back down, her body weak from blood loss and cold from the thawing ice of the undergrowth.

She blinked frost from her eyes and started to look around for any healing herbs she could apply to her wounds, which had now stopped bleeding and where encrusted with dry flakes of scabby blood.

She felt her head begin to spin, all she could do was squeeze her eyes shut and focus on not throwing up. Still feeling faint and fatigued she found herself instinctively calling out for her mother to help her.

But she didn't come. Nobody was coming, only she could help herself. Even though she felt weak she was stronger than she could ever know.

She struggled to her feet when the waves of nausea relented, her skin is pale and bloodless as something she felt a creep of sickness scratch at the back of her throat as stomach bile lurched up her gullet with an acidic burn.

She took it back down, blinking as her gaze steeled with determination, becoming hardened and deadened before uttering a gruff, "mum isn't here."

"I have to go back home."

"I know where home is."

Meanwhile SIN was staring himself down in the mirror, and for a long moment he allowed his eyes to close as he revelled in his memories where Beelze was alive.

Feeling Beelze so close in his mind just made his heart ache and body yearn. It was torture, but a sweet one.

And he had to make them suffer, the ones who chose to destroy his love. Because love was greater than life itself, and without love he had no life-he was incomplete, broken without his love. He was less than nothing, and without love nothing made any sense.

Nothing. Except revenge.

He understood one thing from losing love. He knew now he was a lovesick person in an evil world.

And he knew he would have his revenge in this life, and then his heart would be set free to wander the wonders of the stars with his love.
