Chapter 4: Your Move

Shadow's POV: I woke up the next morning on the floor of Vaati's room. I turned around and looked at his bed to see that he was gone. I sighed and got up off the floor. But I failed and once I stood up and put weight on my left leg, I immediately fell back down to the floor. I looked at my legs to see they where covered in cuts and bruises. And I thought for sure I broke a bone in my foot. "This is worse than usual." I sighed. I heard laughter and looked up to see Vaati in the doorway. "Hard night Shady?" He asked, taunting me. I looked up at him with a pleading look. "Get that look off your face," he said kicking me in the stomach. I gasped and threw my arms around my stomach. "Get up baby." He taunted, kneeling down next to me. "I can't my lord," I said shamefully. He laughed, "Get up." He said sternly. I knew he wouldn't listen to me so I showed him that I physically couldn't get up. He sighed, "Fine...get up." He said rolling his eyes and waving his hand. A gust of wind pushed me up and before I knew it I was standing upright against the wall for support. "Go to your room and rest up, I can't have my little soldier all banged up now can I?" He teased. I nodded and hobbled away leaning up against the wall. "Wait, Lord Vaati?" I asked once I was outside his room. He came out and levitated sitting with his legs crossed in front of me, he sighed, "What Shadow?" He asked with a bored expression. "What are you going to do to Vio?" I asked worriedly. "It depends." He said, "On?" I pressed. "Whether or not Vio gets the other three pieces of the triforce of courage or not, if he does; then he'll live, so long as he stays on our side." He said. "And if he doesn't?" I asked questioningly. "Then he'll die," Vaati stated harshly. I nodded and continued to limp against the wall down the hallway where I ran into Vio. "Shadow, there you are I was worried about you." He said, then he looked me up and down and back at me with a worried expression. "Shadow, what happened?" He asked me. I shrugged not knowing what to say. "Did Vaati do this?" He asked. I had to lie, if I told him that Vaati did this, he'd try to kill Vaati. I can't allow that because once Vaati kills Vio, he'll come after me again. "No, Lord Vaati wouldn't do something like this to me." I lied. "I went on a really tough mission that's all," I stated. "What was it?" Vio asked me in disbelief. "Vio, I'm fine I heal extremely fast," I said reassuring him. "Bullshit, Vaati did this didn't he?" Vio said. I looked at the floor and nodded. "Vio, whatever you do, don't go after him understand me; he won't hesitate to kill you!" I said worried for him. "Shadow, I promise I won't do anything to Vaati." Vio said. I nodded and he helped me down the hallway and to my room. I sat on my bed with my leg propped up on a chair in front of it. Vio said that he had to go see Vaati so I let him go. He later returned after a few minutes and told me that Vaati wanted us to check on the idiots. I groaned at the thought of having to get up and limp around again. Vio told me that he'd help me to the mirror and we could still there in front of it for a while. I nodded and he helped me down the hallway and to the mirror. We sat down in front of it and watched as the three idiots wandered aimlessly around the shadow realm. You see, the shadow realm is exactly like the light realm, only backward. We watched them for a little while and then Vaati joined us. "Healed yet?" He asked putting his arms around me. Vio glared at him and he removed his arms laughing. "Not yet, the bruises are gone, but my foot is still broken," I said. "Then I'll be gentler next time." He said making Vio glare at him more. "Oh Vio stop, you and I both know he deserved it," Vaati said. I could tell by the look on his face that Vio was biting his tongue. "Yes Lord Vaati." He said through his teeth. "Good. Now Shadow, once you are all healed up; I want you to go find those idiots and try to divert and kill at least one of them." Vaati said to me. I nodded in agreement and he left.

Vio's POV: "Are you okay Shadow?" I asked worried about him. He nodded and looked at his leg. "Another hour or two and my foot will be back to normal." He said. "If you want I'll go and slow them down for a while until your foot gets better?" I asked. He stared at me with a contemplating look on his face. He sighed, "Fine, you can go, but just know that I'll be watching you from the mirror." He stated. I nodded and kissed him on the cheek. "I'll be careful and I'll come back soon, I promise," I said as I stood up. I walked away from the mirror and from Shadow and left the tower. I walked down the streets of what was once the light version of Castle town and searched for the three idiots. I found them wandering aimlessly on the outskirts of town. I put a fake worried look on my face and ran over to them. "Guys!" I shouted running over to them. "Vio! Are you okay?" Red asked. "What has Shadow done to you bookworm?!" Blue yelled. "I don't remember." I lied.

Shadow's POV: I watched as Vio lead the three idiots farther and farther into the realm. After another two hours of watching, my foot felt better. I stood up and stared into the mirror. "Looks like it's my move," I said as I walked out a window and floated down the tower to the ground.
