Chapter 3 - The Shadow Walker
The next day,
He hesitated to get out of bed that Saturday morning, He usually sleeps all day during the weekend but, today was an important day. He had to talk to Rosie Harris. So, he has thrown himself out of bed and dragged himself downstairs to see what his mother was cooking. Billy's dad was sitting at the table reading the newspaper and, his little sister Lisa was sitting in her highchair playing with a toy pony.
"Good-morning everyone," Billy said as he sat down at the kitchen table.
"Goob-orning," Lisa said in her baby accent.
"Good-morning son." Mr. and Mrs. Salmon said at the same time.
"What's for breakfast mom?" Billy asked.
"Sausages and eggs. How do you want your eggs?" His mother asked him.
"Scrambled please," Billy said.
"Scram-scram," Lisa said.
"Ok, you too. Scramble eggs it is. Oh, and Billy go get ready while your eggs are cooking, you're going to Amy's house today remember? "She said while cracking one egg at a time into a pan.
"Ok, call me down when they are done." He said as he ran to his room.
When he got down to his room he grabbed his phone from the charger and called any. Ring. Ring. R-.
"Hello, Amy here." She said when she answered.
"Hey, we are still going to Rosie's when I get their right?" Billy said.
"Yes, when we get there, leave the talking to me." She said.
"Ok? See you soon. Bye." Billy said.
"See you, Bye." She said then hanged up.
He went to his closet and grabbed the first T-shirt and shorts he saw. After he put them on he went to the bathroom and started to brush his teeth. He then heard his mother calling him. "Come eat, Billy," She said.
"Ok, I'm almost ready." He yelled back.
He then grabbed his blue toothbrush and started brushing his teeth. He then put a little mouth wash in the cap and gargled it. Then spitted it into the sink and ran downstairs. His father was drinking a cup of coffee and Liza was eating little bite-sized pieces of eggs.
"We can leave when I'm done eating." He said to his mother and shoving a sausage into his mouth.
"Ok sweetie, I'm going to go get my keys." She said while watching Billy eat like a hog.
Billy thought of how it might go with Rosie and, how Amy goes to convince her to talk to me. However, his mother walked into the room. He put his dirty dish in the sink and then walked into the garage. He then went into his mother's back truck with her, and they drove off.
"So, what are you and Amy going to be doing today?" His mothers said as she tried to make small talk.
"Play her Xbox and then hang out with her new friend." He said.
"Oh, that's nice dear. Who's her new friend?" She asked.
"I honestly don't know mom." He said. But he knew exactly who he and Amy were hanging out with.
"Oh, have fun dear and, see you at six-o'-clock." She said while pulling into Amy's driveway.
"Ok, bye mom." He said while getting out of the car and now walking to the front door.
He knocked on the door and no one came. So, he rang the doorbell. No one came to the door. He then pulled out his cell phone and, he called Amy. She picked up on the third ring.
"I'm at the front door, can you let me in?" Billy said.
"I'll be right down, and I'm the only one home." said then hanged up.
Amy looked like she was going to church. She was wearing a white dress with red flowers printed on it. She had a pearl necklace on and some matching earrings.
"Why are you so dressed up today? He asked while they walked up the stairs.
"I honestly don't know. I guess, I just felt like it today." She said then twirled her dress.
"Anyway, let's talk about us going to Rosie's house." He said. "Because she doesn't really like me." He continued.
"My mom is taking us when she gets back. And, when we get there let me do all the talking. When we are inside her house we are going to ask her about the strange boy you saw." She said.
"Sounds like a plan. Can we play on the Xbox until she gets here?" He asked.
She nodded. Billy and Amy spent almost the whole day laughing and beating each other in a game of Fortnite. But suddenly, Amy's phone rang. She picked it up and answered it. And she and the other person on the phone talked for about two minutes and then hanged up.
"What happened and, who was that?" Billy asked.
"It was Rosie. She wanted to know if I-I mean we are still coming over." She said while looking at Billy.
"Yes. But, my mo-." She said while looking out the window. But then her eyes got bigger like she saw something.
"She just pulled in. Are you ready?" She said then Billy nodded. They then ran downstairs to greet Mrs. Salmon (Amy's mother).
"Hi mom," Amy said.
"Hello Mrs. Salmon, how was your day today?" Bill said.
"Hey everyone and, oh boy I had a rough day at work." She said then flopped into a side chair.
"Not too rough to take us to Rosie's. Right?" Billy said while smiling. "Ouch!" Billy said when Amy elbowed him in the stomach then said. "White a couple of minutes, she's tired."
"It's fine Amy, let's go." She said while laughing, and then they walked out the front door.
Amy rode in the passages seat right by her mother and Billy rode in the back seat by himself. All through the ride, all he could think about was how Rosie might react. He thought maybe he could get some information about the shadow boy. They finally reached Rosie's house and, it was nothing like how he expected it to be. It looked like an old white trailer with chipped paint on the outside and there were beer cans scattered all over the front yard. When they out of the car they walked to the porch and noticed that at least two steps were missing.
Amy then tried to get up the steps but stopped me from going up. "Stay right here. I have a plan." She said. She then knocked on the door and a fat man came to answer it. That must have been Rosie's father. Billy thought.
"I'm here to see Rosie," Amy said.
Rosie then stepped to the front door.
"Oh, hi Amy, come on in," Rosie said.
"But I brought a friend can he come in too?" Amy asked her.
"Sure, your friend can come in." She said. Then waved Billy to come to her. He walked to the front door and gasped.
"He's not coming in." She said.
"But you said my friend can come. And he's my best friend." Amy said.
"Yes, I did say that. But-." She was trying to say, but then Amy interrupted her.
"If he's not coming in then I can't. And that's final. "Amy demanded.
So, this was her plan. She was going to guilt her way into letting me talk to her. At least that what Billy thought.
"Fine! He can come!" She yelled while rolling her eyes. And then she pushed the door open. She then walked Billy and Amy through the house and to her room.
Her room was quite tiny. She had chipped purple walls and her curtains were torn all at the bottom, it was like a cat used its claws to rip them. There were clothes all over her bedroom floor, and food all over her dressers. But at least her bed was made. He thought.
"So, Rosie, we have some questions for you," Amy said as she sat on her bed.
"Like what?" She said while looking at Billy's straight in the eyes, as he sat next to Amy on her bed. Billy could tell she was about to tell her about the shadow boy. But Rosie started talking.
"So, there's this boy. He's-." She was about to tell her about the boy but then started to yell at her.
"OUT NOW!" Rosie yelled and then pointed to the front door.
"Excuse me? What did you say?" Amy said now getting off her bed.
"I SAID. OUT NOW! GET OUT!" Rosie said now getting off her bed and staring Amy straight in the eyes.
Billy has never seen Rosie nor Amy so mad before. He didn't know what to do.
