CHAPTER 23: THE COLDNESS OF DESPAIR
I opened my eyes. Reaching to my nightstand lamp, I tried to turn it on, but it did not budge. I wonder why it was too dark.
When I lifted out of the bed sheets, I shivered.
Everything was cold. All the warmth from the house had gone somewhere I was not aware of.
Something didn't feel right.
Sensing something was wrong, I pulled over me the bed sheets, and hurried to the door, yanking it open, but once I stood outside the bedroom, nothing was into sight; no hall, lights, doors, or stairs.
I walked cautiously towards where Mammon's room normally was located but once I reached that point, my hand knocked on air.
Uneasiness started to crawl over me.
I went to Lucifer's room, but there was none.
No Levi...
No Satan...
No Asmo...
No Beel or Belphie...
No Solomon...
A sudden whisper at the back of my ear, made me spin.
"WHO IS THERE?! WHAT'S THE MEANING OF THIS?!"
Noone answered.
I again exclaimed, the cold numbing my extremities as my teeth clattered.
"A...A...ANSWER ME!"
A sinister laugh echoed.
I tried to run but fell immediately as my body became frozen I didn't know if because of the extreme cold or the terror that was taken over me.
I shut my eyes and clutched the sheets to my body.
I whispered,
"This is not real... Not real... Soon they will appear and I'll be safe... Soon everything will be warm... Soon..."
I was cut off by someone.
"You should give up hope... They won't always be there for you, or let us say... Not even you have the lifetime to be there for them..."
I ignored them as they continued.
"So stubborn. You are weak in your dreams. In your dreams you have no one but yourself Pamy and it's the best place for me to get what I want."
The voice was becoming more recognizable. The suspicions of mine were true.
I yelled,
"YOU THINK I'LL GIVE IN JUST LIKE THAT?!"
Bad Solomon chuckled.
"Even if you don't give in, I could just make you so you better not play the hard one to get. I came here not to take you away or control you, but to bargain with you."
I couldn't believe him.
"What makes you think I'd want to bargain with you?"
To my distaste, he chuckled. His hand caressed my face as he continued to speak with a softness one could misunderstand as sweet but in reality it was full of cruelty and mischief.
"Oh but do listen, won't you? Of course, you will. There is nowhere to run to either way and your current state is just way too pitiful."
My fingers twitched, and I could barely feel the touch of my sheets.
He added,
"I sensed you found one of the Universe Stones and the book that connects to it. I wanted to tell you first, that even if you find them all, it will all be futile. Nothing can destroy me. If you have forgotten, I am just emotions that have materialized, I'm not real whatsoever and my powers are beyond what you can imagine."
I contradicted,
"Everything has a weakness, be it existent or NOT. Emotions are real and so are YOU. Don't go rambling things you don't even understand!"
He smiled.
"Oh! I do understand. You see I've been reading. Creatures are complex. They have many believes and ways of looking at their own reality that most of the times, they think they know everything but in truth, they doubt their believes. I believe you are the same as well Pamy..."
I wanted to refute him but even my mouth would not respond.
"To cut things short, because there isn't much time for me to chat with you, I want you to find the stones and books and once you found them, bring them to me. It's that simple."
I stared at him in shock.
He continued.
"I know you want to tell me you won't do it, but I bet you a million souls, that you will not be able to hold on much longer, and once you've gotten consumed by that insecurity buried deep inside you; once you are at your most vulnerable and not one of your demons is there for you to get back up, that's where I come in and you'll rely only on me because your trust will bes so broken. You poor... Poor thing..."
My heat squeezed and my eyes stung.
I thought.
So, this is how being consumed by darkness feels like...
I murmured,
"So sad..."
Bad Solomon tilted his head in question.
"It's so sad that you have nothing but yourself and want to drag into your own despair those who don't deserve it!"
A fireball came rushing toward us and flashed bright, making Bad Solomon stumble back.
The fireball exclaimed.
"Leave her alone you fiend! I cast you away from her dreams! IMIGH!*"
It shown bright enough to make me blind, but the warmth was returning my body.
Bad Solomon's figure became smokes at the commands, but before I could that whatever or whoever had saved me, Mammon's voice made me look around for its source.
The fireball stood in front of my face as a black hole sucked in the nothingness around me.
"GO TO THE LIGHT TOWER! TO THE LIGHT..."
Everything else was faint as I was engulfed by the black hole.
My eyes remained shut as I listened to the please of Mammon and other voices.
Pamy! Pa... my.... Pa...
I opened my eyes abruptly and propelled myself up from wherever I've been laying on.
I looked around and saw everyone was gathered around my bed.
Sweat accumulated on my forehead and my hands were clutching the sheets of the bed like my life depended on it.
Mammon hugged me and caressed my hair, murmuring soothing words as the rest shared their worries.
Mammon,
"We are here... We are here with you... I am here with you Pamy..."
I was scared...
I am scared...
I only hugged back and just the words of them being here made my piled up, mixed emotions poured down my eyes.
After a good five minutes of me bawling my eyes out, I remembered that we had a mission at hand and still needed to be completed, fr the sake of everything and everyone.
With seriousness and determination in my voice, I stated,
"We need to go to the tower...."
Lucifer inquired,
"What tower...? You don't mean..."
Asmo,
"No way! That place is TOO HOT for my skin!"
Levi,
"So is THAT tower..."
Mammon exclaimed.
"You guys aren't making any sense! Which tower is she talking about?!"
Satan, Belphie, Beel and Solomon looked troubled.
Satan,
"She means..."
Solomon finished his sentence.
"The Devildom's Light Tower..."
