CHAPTER 11: THE LAST OF THE LEVIATHANS

It was cold, but not unpleasant.

Levi's figure floated under water, peacefully breathing in and out. Eyes closed and cleared up senses.

He could feel the water caress his skin, and circulate inside his body, replenishing him; clearing away the pain.

He could smell the faint aroma of blood mixed with that of the person he was supposed to protect but failed to do so.

Could he be more of a nuisance, he asked himself.

How could he ever imagine he would be able to defeat that evil sorcerer alone? Even Lucifer couldn't and he just imagined himself he could; just like one of his heroic novels and manga characters.

He was a failure, both as a man and a demon.

A waste of space...

Levi's body started to shine with purplish currents running all over his body underneath his skin.

Levi could taste the sweetness of freshwater, clearing up the iron taste that had been accumulated by the dried-up blood in his mouth. The sweetness of the fresh water was like a blessing he never asked for, but thankful, nonetheless.

His eyes slowly opened as he noticed, without moving a muscle, that he was slowly sinking.

Where was he again, he wondered and soon remembered he needed to rescue Pamy. He needed to move to make that happen, but his body seemed reluctant to do so.

It felt so good where he was now. He felt safe, safe from the reality of his failures; the failures no one ever pointed out for him, but he didn't need them to for him to know what they were... Failures...

He muttered, as air bubbled formed and reached towards the green gleaming water surface but disappeared halfway there,

"I'm better off here..."

Levi closed his eyes and waited for anything to ended it all.

Suddenly, a whisper reached him. His ears twitched at the melodious soft voice.

"Tá m'anam stróicthe uaim, agus mé ag cur fola
Mo chroí, tá sé ar cíos, agus tá mé ag caoineadh..."

He had heard this before.

"My soul has been torn from me, and I am bleeding

My heart, it has been rent, and I am crying..."

Tears started to well up in his eyes. As the song continued.

"All the beauty around me fades, and I am screaming..."

Levi's body started to crackle and emit purplish electrical discharges, as his slit, brightened with determination, eyes widened and narrowed.

"I am the last of the Great Leviathans..."

The water started to pool around him, whirling at monstrous speed, as it fused with electrical energy.

"... and I am..."

Before the last words could be uttered, with a deep slithering voice he screamed,

"EST SATIS!"

A large blast emanated from underwater, splashing water everywhere.

The floating Solomon, Lucifer and the other Solomon look towards it, and their eyes widened in surprise as they saw a gigantic electrical waterspout take form and without any moment waisted, moved in just a blink of an eye towards them.

Lucifer and Solomon didn't think twice as they moved immediately out of the way, while the other awaited with a playful grin plastered on his face.

A red glow appeared under his upper robes as he took out the grimoire and chanted some words.

Red glowing cracks appeared all over his body, red light blasting from his, eyes, ears, nose and mouth as well.

The waterspout engulfed him, while Solomon and Lucifer saw from a crumpling rocky form.

They watched as the waterspout whirled without end.

Lucifer frowned, obvious that a great battle was taking over inside, as he saw red and purplish hues hit here and there inside it.

Solomon,

"Is that Levi?"

Lucifer nodded.

Apparently, Levi had woken up from his slumber, and now fully recovered, he wanted to prove that he could be the best, not only for others but for himself. He had always felt useless, and now, he was ready to take this battle far more serious than he ever did.

Lucifer chuckled.

"He has grown so well..."

Solomon thoughtfully glanced at him. Lucifer could surprise at the most unexpected of times. Truly the perfect "big brother" figure.

A red glowing figure was expelled from the waterspout, crashing unto another of the bubble's walls. The bubble cracked and more water came through, rushing the level of it inside the space they were in.

Solomon looked downwards at the wild waves that beat the rock they were on to crumbles.

Lucifer said as he straightened,

"Do you have enough magic on you to create another portal inside the waterspout?"

Solomon nodded, but was taking into consideration the high voltage inside the thing Lucifer wanted them to go into.

Lucifer,

"I will cast a protection barrier so the electric discharges don't affect us, but it will not last long. That is why I need you to create the portal once I have Levi in my grasp and take us three out of this damn place. Can you do that?"

Solomon nodded in agreement.

Lucifer stretched out his wings.

"Well then, let's get the hell out of here."

He and Solomon bolted towards the storming waterspout, and as Lucifer created the protective barrier, they passed through the wild swirling water, hearing the rumble as they hit against them.

Lucifer spotted Levi at the center of it.

Levi was covered in an energy cloud, clothe ripped, with fangs showing and eyes flooded with anger. He might not be able to recognize them now, but they couldn't waste anymore time, and he was his older brother.

Conscious or not, Levi needed to snap out of it, and they needed to leave now before their foe decided to kill them all in one go.

Solomon and Lucifer went as fast as they could towards the raging figure, and as soon as Lucifer hugged his brother, he received a painful flow of burning energy through him.

Solomon drew a circle with both of his hands and a portal appeared.

His eyes widened as soon as he caught notice at the red glowing figure that now, instead of wearing his usual malevolent grin, glared with intense hatred towards them.

The "Bad" Solomon rushed towards them, s creaming,

"YOU BASTARDS! AAAAAAAAAH!!!"

Lucifer grabbed Solomon from the back of his collar and threw both him, and Levi through the portal.

He could listen the maddened laugh from the other, as it grew nearer by the moment.

The other Solomon was inches away from him, but before he could take hold on Lucifer, Lucifer turned and hitting him with an energized palmed in the chest, sent the other Solomon out of the waterspout, crossing the portal seconds before it finally closed, disappearing from sight.

The waterspout unmaterialized and the waters inside the already filled bubble calmed.

Underwater, laid suspended the others body, and as it turned, bloody red murderous eyes twitched. His hands were closed in fists, which nails buried deep into the flesh, staining the water that surrounded them in crimson.

He opened his mouth and screamed.

He screamed but no one heard...

FUN FACTS:

The song Levi was hearing underwater is an old irish folk's song written by The Dubliners in 1987. It's originally in english but I translated a little in Celtic Gaelic to add a little of "oooooh" into the whole "magic is done mostly in ancient unspoken dialects" kind of feel, and Hey! It worked!

Either way, the song is called "The Last of the Great Whales". In the original lyrics instead of "Great Leviathans" the creators wrote "Great Whales".

It is a sad song that speaks about the whale hunting in the East, and how a whale itself feels while being hunted by men. It talks about loneliness, persecution, loss of companions, blood and loss of the light, which in other words means death.

I thought that some parts of the lyrics seemed perfect to wake up Levi and take a hold of himself, so why not give him and his power a boost.

. The word spoken by Levi "EST SATIS!" is in Latin. In English means "That's enough!".
