Prologue

                   1 year ago:

"So.....do you believe me?" Janice whispered nervously, waiting for my reaction. I was frozen in shock, trying to register what Janice just told me. When she texted me yesterday that she had something to tell me, I was not expecting this at all.

I thought she was having some trouble with her family again, or she might've had a secret boyfriend she didn't tell me about, but instead she told me something even more mind-blowing. She told me that she was from another dimension. Not only that, but she claimed that she had powers too.

Could I really believe what Janice is saying?

I looked at Janice again, gazing into her eyes deeply. They looked sincere. "I don't know," I replied after a long moment, I feel like if you showed me your powers, I could believe you."

Janice sighed, shaking her head. "I wish I could, but it's forbidden in the parallel dimension. Even telling you that I have magic is forbidden," She explained. "Then...why would you tell me?" I asked curiously.

"Well, that's because I know I can trust you with my secret. You'd never tell anyone."

"Just show me a little magic? Just a little? I promise that I won't bother you about it anymore."

She peeked side by side at the playground. "Not here, there's too many kids," she whispered and took my hand, leading me through a trail out of the park and into the woods nearby. We stopped at an empty area full of tall trees towering over us.

Janice stuck her hands together and whispered a line of gibberish I couldn't decipher. Suddenly, a flash of blue light burst from her hands and rested on her palm. "Wow! That was awesome! Do it again!" I said, amazed at the spectacular sight I witnessed. "I thought you promised me that you wouldn't bother me about it after I showed you a little magic?" Janice shot me a look.

"Ha, sorry, It's just that I'm so amazed," I said sheepishly, scratching my head. "Well, I probably have to go now," Janice said, looking up at the darkened sky.

"Aw, that sucks, this is our last day to hang out before you go on vacation," I said sadly. I also wanted to ask Janice more about the parallel dimension and about her powers, but I didn't want to be too pushy.

"Don't worry, I'll text you everyday," Janice assured me. "Make sure you buy some souvenirs for me too," I said. "I'll try to send you a doll or two," Janice joked, slowly walking backwards. "Hey! You know I'm scared of them!" I yelled and ran after Janice, who was laughing and running away.

Before I could reach Janice, I felt something hard strike me on my back, sending me tumbling to the ground. "Mina!" Janice yelled and rushed over to me, "Are you okay??"

"Yeah I'm fine," I muttered and rubbed my back in pain, "What hit me anyway?" Janice picked up a large tree branch behind me, "it must've been this." Suddenly, she shot her head up in alert, looking about our surroundings, narrowing her eyes suspiciously

"What's wrong?" I asked. "Nothing..." Janice muttered, still looking at the trees behind me, then widened her eyes in fear. I followed her gaze and for a brief second, I saw a pair of bright red eyes stare at us coldly from the trees. Just as quickly as I saw it, the red eyes disappeared in a blink, leaving me and Janice speechless.

"W-what the heck? What do you think that was?" I whispered fearfully. For a moment, Janice didn't answer me. She seemed to be lost in thought over what just happened.

Let's just get out of here," Janice said finally,  grabbing my hand. I didn't argue and we ran back to the park.

Well, this the first part of the story! Do you guys like it? :3 Should I make it longer or should I keep it like this?
