WARNING! Extreme angst coming prepare yo selves
WARNING AGAIN! Prepare to cry cos I did at the end
Yoongi found the silence of Vlam's castle strange as he climbed up the steps, Holly's quiet groaning echoing in the empty stairwell. His metal boots made loud steps against the rock steps, the narrow area only illuminated by torches patterned alternately on both sides of him. He gulped at the thought of the current ruler of his kingdom, a thousand and one scenarios forming in his head about whoever this person could be. Somehow, he felt nervous. Could he handle it? Was he good enough to become a leader of the land of flames and dragons?
As if reassuring Yoongi, Holly purred and nuzzled its snout on his cheek. The fire gem bearer gently pet the head of his dragon and pursed his lips into a thin line. "You're right, Holly. I have to prepare for anything."
Yoongi sighed loudly and groaned at how the stairs seemed never ending, his legs feeling like they would give out at any moment. He let out a grunt if relief once two rock slabs appeared in his view, designs of red roses and thorns carved into the twin doors. Unexpectedly for him, two Vlamian guards were silently standing right in front of the doors.
Having no time to hide, Yoongi was easily spotted by one of the Vlamians. The guard slowly walked towards the grey haired boy and dragon, gun in hand. "And who are you?"
"Well, let's see...," Yoongi hummed and looked away, giving the guard an impression that he was trying to recall something. Behind his back, he secretly balled one of his hands into a fist. "Why don't you find out?"
The guard couldn't even react to Yoongi punching him in the face, causing him to tumble and drop his weapon. The second Vlamian immediately pulled out his gun and aimed but Holly flew, using its claws to snatch the pistol away.
Yoongi continued to struggle with the Vlamian, hearing Holly and the other guard shuffling in the background, the two of them rolling on the floor. The fire gem bearer reached for the gun, his fingertips brushing against it, until he was picked up and thrown towards the wall, jolts of pain shooting up his back.
Grunting at the pain, Yoongi opened his eyes and saw the guard pointing his gun at him. He instantly clacked his ankles together and jumped, the flames of his boosters blinding the guard. Landing back on his feet, the grey haired man pounced towards the Vlamian and punched once more, this time knocking him out cold.
Yoongi whipped his head around when he heard Holly yelping in pain. The sight of the Vlamian guard harshly tugging on his dragon's wings instantly fueled his anger, his teeth sharpening and eyes turning orange. "Don't you fucking touch Holly!"
Sprinting towards the guard, Yoongi slapped the button on one of his boots and switched back on a booster before kicking the Vlamian right in the balls. The poor soldier crumpled to the ground in pain as Holly flew back to the fire gem bearer's arms.
"You alright, buddy?," Yoongi asked with a gentle tone as he pet Holly, who replied with a nod and a purr.
After making sure that Holly didn't need any medical attention, Yoongi cracked his knuckles and pressed palms on the doors and pushed while his red dragon did the same with its little clawed feet.
A good minute of pressing his body weight onto the doors later, Yoongi stepped backwards with aching arms. Holly perched on his shoulders as he looked around, trying to find a way to open the door. However, not even a second passed until they opened themselves, thick brown dust rising from the floor and covering his feet.
Yoongi watched with squinted eyes as the doors opened slowly, tiny rubble and dust falling from the ceiling. It was silent when the doors stopped, only the grey haired man's footsteps echoing as be entered. He gently pet Holly once more since the dragon was shaking, almost as if it was terrified.
During this, Yoongi took the opportunity to glance around the throne room, doors shutting loudly behind him. The ground was smoothened rock which was almost slippery against his metal boots. However, the walls were left to their natural rough state, skewers of rocks sticking out from the walls and ceiling, some even tainted with a ghastly red color. Various weapons, spears, knives, bows and arrows, etc., were also hanging on the walls, arranged to resemble decorations. Down on the ground was a red and gold laced carpet that flowed from beneath the fire gem's feet to the throne across him.
Yoongi saw the figure sitting quietly on the rock throne and tensed, both arms raised in offensive position, flames sparking over his palms. Holly hissed loudly on his shoulders, tail coiling around his forearm. The figure, however, did not acknowledge their formation.
The current ruler of Vlam sat on the throne with crossed legs, clothes dark and smooth as it ran down to the floor. In his hand was a red rose, one that was placed over his mouth as he smelled it quietly and Yoongi instantly noticed the long scar running down his left eye. Atop his head was Vlam's crown, one looked delicate and sleek due to its smooth charcoal black material, rocky spikes melted into the the base and pointing upwards. The crown was fused with scorching hot lava, which glowed through the crevices of the rose patterned design. Two large metal bowls were resting at each side of the throne, filled to the brim with flame lit rocks. Behind the ruler was a window and a familiar looking crusted chain. Oh.
"People often mistake roses to be red. It resembles blood, they say, yet it is a symbol of both power and love," The ruler suddenly spoke, voice deep and gruff, as he cupped the rose in his hands, which Yoongi noticed was robotic and made of metal. He tensed again, his eyes turning bright orange. "But... it is not. The roses of Vlam are colored a beautiful salmon, for they represent excitement, passion... and desire."
The ruler crushed the rose in his hands and threw the petals away while Yoongi scowled because the salmon color looked like a regular red shade to him. The fire gem bearer stayed silent as the scarred ruler slowly stood up slowly, purple eyes piercing into the fire gem bearer's own orange orbs. Holly was still hissing loudly. He eyed the window, the memory of him Taehyung tied in those chains flashing across his mind, before he spoke. "You were watching us."
"Yes... yes, I was," The ruler chuckled darkly and walked around the throne, hands folded behind his back as he eyed Yoongi, who was growling at him with Holly. "The way you and the Helian worked together was rather... interesting. I will be quite frank, I expected the two of you to perish in the pits of lava but you were smart and the Helian was agile. Teamwork, if I do say so myself?"
"Stop with the chitchat," Yoongi hissed, flames literally snapping from his tongue. The ruler glanced at the fire gem bearer with a raised eyebrow, lips curled into a frown. "You know why I'm here."
"I do," The ruler shook his head with some of sort of sly smile on his face and Yoongi noticed that the eye above the scar was blinded, only a light tint of purple left in the glassy white orb. "Dear wonder of Vlam, my name is Logan. Vlamians are known for their fierceness and straightforward attitude. However, I'd like to speak to you first, man to man. Would you like to take a seat?"
Yoongi flicked his eyes towards the chair Logan had walked towards with a gesture before looking back with a fiery glare. Holly was growling as well, sharp teeth bared. The fire gem bearer didn't really understand why Vlam's current ruler was being so polite to him and it honestly made him uncomfortable. Still, he knew that it wasn't the time to attack. Not yet.
"Very well then," Logan replied after a few moments of silence before folding his hands behind his back and walking towards the throne once more. Yoongi watched as the ruler stared out the window, the spider machine whirring loudly from behind the glass, giving him a view of his broad back. "Min Yoongi... To you, what does a man need the most to survive?"
Yoongi was obviously confused by the question so he lowered his hands, eyes turning back to their original brown color. Even Holly made a small grunt, long talons digging into his shoulder blades. Still, he thought about an answer. What did a man need the most to survive? Somehow, at the back of his mind, there was one word, one word that seemed so much like an answer.
But Yoongi couldn't say it. What would that answer make him look like? The fire gem bearer opened up his mouth to answer, then hesitated and clamped it closed, licking his lips anxiously. "It's... I..."
"I can tell what you're thinking, Leveian," Logan said with a cocky tune, making Yoongi swallow dryly while Holly stayed quiet on his shoulders. The current ruler of Vlam let out a loud evil chuckle that bounced off the walls of the throne room before he spoke again. "And you're right. The key to the ultimate survival of man is none other than power. How do you think did Vlam become so great?"
"By isolating the dragons and disregarding the needs of the people?," Yoongi replied sarcastically even though the word power had been branded into his mind. Holly grunted, as if both agreeing and despising the words he had just said.
"Look at you, already talking like a King," Logan scoffed and Yoongi growled at how the Helian was obviously mocking him. "It had to be done. We had to make certain adjustments for Vlam to become the industrialized kingdom Hel needed. What about the dragons and Vlamians? They were getting in the way. No matter what they think or what they say, they can't do anything because I am the King of Vlam. Nobody is above me. That's the advantage of having all that power, right?"
Yoongi went silent, his mouth pressed into a thin line as thoughts ran across his mind. Power. It took a few moments until he was able to speak again. "You're... you're sick."
It seemed like Yoongi's stuttering was a sign for Logan to continue speaking. The ruler stepped towards him with a grin, the fire gem bearer only snapping back into reality after hearing Holly grow loudly. "Do you know why we rulers go as far as offering the world to you? You wonders have a strong magical bond with your gems. Even if we cut off your hand, the gem will be deemed useless unless its owner is willing to give it away."
"What does that have to do with anything?," Yoongi hissed, trying to hide his disoriented state because he had a slight inkling of what Logan was planning. Since Jin had told him how Daphne had tried to take the water gem, he already had grasped what was about to hit him. He just had to brace himself for anything.
"Yoongi, I'm going to offer you a deal," Logan said with a mischievous smile. There it is. Even though Yoongi already knew this was coming, he still felt nervous. Holly surely felt it as well, since it was trembling on his shoulders. The ruler chuckled, seemingly amused by the anxious expression on the fire gem bearer's face. "For your gem of fire, Hel would like to offer something that burns even brighter than the sun's flame... and that is this kingdom, Vlam itself."
What? Yoongi blinked and failed to process the info Logan was laying out to him. He couldn't understand why Hel was willing to give him the kingdom of Vlam, even though his mission was to reclaim it. Squinting his eyes, he found consolation in petting Holly as he finally spoke up. "Stop lying. I came here to reclaim Vlam so why would you just hand it over to me?"
"You really think we'd just give you Vlam?," Logan laughed out loud, his polite and calm premise shattering. Yoongi watched with a raised brow and made sure he didn't let down his guard, Holly hissing with wings angled upwards. It took a while until the ruler was able to regain his composure. "Of course not, silly. We want you to give us your gem in exchange for Vlam."
"Why do you think would I agree to that stupid deal?," Yoongi snapped, voice laced with venom as he stared at Logan with bared teeth and fiery eyes. Although the situation he was currently in confused him, he still did his best to look intimidating. He wasn't going to let himself be belittled again.
"That's because you'll get what you've always wanted, Yoongi," Logan spoke menacingly, Holly growling even louder at his tone. Yoongi gulped as he made eye contact with those sick purple orbs. "Think about it. You will become an icon of power."
Yoongi's fierce expression disappeared instantly upon hearing that one word. His palms started to palpitate, sweat dotting his forehead. Power. No matter how simple the word was, it seemed to be calling at him with open arms. Holly made a noise and nuzzled its snout on the fire gem bearer's cheek. However, the action remained unnoticed. "Icon... of power?"
"Exactly. An icon of power," Logan now had a very evil smirk on his face, voice dripping with a very mischievous tone. Yoongi flinched and stepped backwards, his hand reaching for Holly's head out of instinct. "Imagine it. Min Yoongi, King of Vlam. As long as I take the gem, I won't mind handing over my position to you. Listen to me. Once you sit on that throne, you will become the most powerful man in all of the kingdom."
Yoongi swallowed dryly at Logan's words and continued moving backwards as the ruler stepped forward in a continuous pace. Holly had crawled into his arms and now the fire gem bearer was hugging the dragon close to his chest.
"You will take orders from no one," Logan continued, his voice rising by the second. "You can prove to your mother, stepfather and to the world that you are someone more than what you've been told all your life."
Closing his eyes, Yoongi had flashbacks of his screaming stepfather and the constant he received from his mother, along with the sound of shattering discs and broken speakers. The memory made the grey haired man flinch inwardly and he could almost his cheek stinging. Holly was whimpering in his arms.
"And what about the guardian?," Logan smirked at his own words as Yoongi's back hit the wall. His eyes widened fully at the Helian's mention of you. As the ruler pressed his mechanical hand on the wall next to the fire gem's bearer's head, he could hear its gear whirring. "You can prove your worth to her and everyone else. Show her what you are really capable of—"
"Don't you ever bring Sky into the conversation or into this mess," Yoongi spat with fuming orange eyes, his discomfort seemingly disappearing at that very moment.
"Do not interrupt me when I speak!," Yoongi flinched at Logan's loud tone, the smirking down at the fire gem bearer's trembling figure. "Now, where was I? Ah, yes... That fear you have right now. All that pain? And that suffering you went through? Let them feel it. Let them sympathize with you by making them suffer the same way you did. Nobody will or can stop you. You will have the power to be and do anything. All you have to do, Yoongi, is give me your gem."
Logan lent out his hand, which seemed to be speaking to Yoongi. Give me the gem, it said, and all your dreams will come true. In those few seconds, the grey haired man glanced down at his orange gem and thought about a lot of things.
Yoongi thought about the power he had the chance to gain. He thought about being Vlam's king and being the superior body of the kingdom. Nobody to scold him or tell him what to do. He could boss everyone around without question, almost like how he had always dreamed of becoming above his parents so he could give them a taste of their own medicine. A small smile grew on his face. Maybe that's exactly what he was going to do after sitting on his throne.
Holly whimpered again but Yoongi only heard it as faint mumbles. Logan's offer was a chance to prove himself to everyone in the galaxy. Looking down at his gem, he brushed his fingertips against the gold chain, which seemed to tighten around his wrist. His thoughts were clashing in his mind as he fumbled with the hook. Give it to him, don't. Let them suffer, set them free.
Yoongi was tired of being the victim. He was tired of feeling so much pain that can't be compared to any other. He was tired of being weak, of being powerless against his demons. But now, he had the chance to take that power he had always craved. He had the chance to be the superior overlord and crush those who dare opposed him. He had the chance to be in control of everyone and everything in the kingdom. The fire gem was glowing even brighter than ever.
Truthfully, Yoongi was smiling mischievously to himself as he slowly unhooked his bracelet, Holly's whimpers never reaching his ears. However, the smile faded when he remembered his friends. You, Emily and the wonders, most especially Jin. He remembered a time during their travel to Vlam, when he had a bit of a talk with the water gem bearer.
Jin's words stuck to Yoongi: Everyone goes through their own kinds of problems but doesn't mean that you have to feel like you shouldn't be going through something as well.
Yoongi rapidly blinked his tears away. How could he be so selfish? How could he act like he was the only one going through so much pain? How could he ignore everyone else's effort to overcome their own obstacles? The grey haired man hissed at how he had only been thinking of himself. Finally hearing Holly's cries, he lovingly pet his dragon before closing his eyes, memories flashing through his mind.
Whenever Yoongi's mother and stepfather would beat him, they'd always say one thing afterwards: You're nothing more than a helpless, useless child.
When Yoongi begged his former homeroom teacher to help him, he only said one thing: Look at your grades. You will never be able to accomplish anything when you grow you up.
When Yoongi approached Suran and her friends for help, they only had one impression of him: Look at him! He looks like nothing more than a runaway delinquent.
And then there was you. To Yoongi, the memory of the break-up was like a fresh, still hurting and stinging with pain. There was no doubt that he was still completely and utterly in love with you. Of course, a small part him wanted so badly for you to come back into his arms and whisper loving words in his ears. He wanted to go back in time and avoid the topic of Taehyung in order to avoid breaking up. He wanted to find a way to keep you, no matter what.
At the same time, Yoongi recalled his own words, once he had told Namjoon not so long ago. Stop letting the past torture you. Keep that up and you'll rot without anyone even knowing. There was nothing he could do to change the past, even though his heart was filled to the brim with regret. Nothing will change the fact that he loved you and nothing will change the fact that you don't.
No matter how much it hurt for Yoongi, he knew that the best thing to do was to let you go. All these years, he had been converting all his pain and regret into anger.
Not anymore.
"So, Yoongi, what will it be?," Logan spoke, snapping Yoongi out of his thoughts. The ruler still had extended out, his fingers gestures for him to hand over the fire gem. Holly turned towards the Helian and snapped its sharp teeth at him. "The gem for ultimate power. It is the most—"
"Thanks...," Yoongi cut off Logan, who glanced at him with a questionable expression, before rubbing his wrist and hooking his bracelet back in place. He raised his hand next to his face as Holly crawled to his shoulders with a loud cheer, the bright orange color of the gem matching his eyes. "But no thanks. I'm keeping this little gem for myself."
"You—," Logan paused for a bit, his face contorted with both anger and disbelief. Yoongi smirked at the ruler as he shook his head wildly. "You are a fool! Exchanging the opportunity of absolute power for — Don't you realize how lucky you are?! I never asked for this. I never asked to be told every single day that I wasn't enough. I never asked to be pulled apart and put back together over and over again until they finally made the perfect cyborg, just so I could be fit to be Vlam's ruler! Yet here you are... being given the very same chance with nothing but a tiny gem for exchange and you still refuse! I don't understand!"
Pausing, Yoongi stared at Logan, his cries for help sounding familiar. Those words were very similar to his thoughts before, while he was still living with his mother. The realization of how the Helian seemed like a reflection himself made him feel pity towards him, his fierce expression fading into one of sorrow.
"Logan... listen," Yoongi spoke softly after listening carefully, Holly cawing happily on the fire gem bearer's shoulders. He stepped forward slowly, the ruler's eyes widening before he started shuffling backwards. "I understand where you're from. I understand that you've suffered so much in the past just to get to where you are but... that doesn't mean everyone else should feel that same pain. You think that just because you're King means you can pick on anyone without question? Well, you're wrong. Just because you're richer or older or more powerful doesn't give you the right to. Just because you've been through so much means that you have to compensate for it no matter what. There's this thing called being a decent person and that's by not abusing all that power you have in your hands."
Yoongi took deep breaths once he noticed the fire scorching brightly around his feet. With eyes still fiery orange, he continued to stomp towards Logan with bared teeth, the Helian flinching at him. Fear. He could smell it.
"Though... you are right about a few things," Yoongi said with a smirk, Holly nodding vigorously on his shoulders. The fire gem bearer snapped his fingers, Logan flinching once more. He was amused by how the obviously order man seemed so afraid of him at the moment. "I do want to prove myself to everyone and show them why I was chosen to be Vlam's rightful King but really, there's no need to be such a bitch about it, right? I'll keep my gem and take the throne I'm meant to have. As Vlam's King, I'll prove my worth to the whole universe by being the best ruler this kingdom has ever seen. And there is nothing that you can say or do to change my mind."
Logan went silent at Yoongi's words and just stared at him with his dark purple eyes. The fire gem bearer pet Holly after hearing it purr and returned a burning glare, waiting for the other to speak. The tension in the air thickened with each passing second but neither of them let their gazes faltered.
Finally, after what seemed like hours, the silence was broken by Logan's hand, which made a slight whir as he raised it to brush away the bangs that had fallen over his eyes. Yoongi watched him with squinted eyes, not planning to let his guard down. "You really are a fool, Min Yoongi. You choose your words as if you are already Vlam's ruler."
"Maybe I am a fool," Yoongi shrugged and went into a battle formation, flames erupting over his palms as he gestured at Logan with his fingers, taunting him. Holly growled loudly. "But you're the only one standing in between me and the throne."
Logan chuckled lowly as he shook his head, seemingly amused by Yoongi. However, the Helian's expression changed almost immediately as a wicked smile spread across his face, his supposedly blind light purple eyes glowing a bright red. He raised his mechanical hands, which whirred as he crossed them over his face, as the fire gem bearer's eyes widened. "Fine then. I'll show you the power of Vlam's ruler... and the power of Hel."
It seemed like Logan had springs under his shoes because when he jumped, he nearly hit the ceiling. Yoongi immediately pressed the buttons of his gloves and skated away, Holly flying behind him as the Helian crashed to the ground, the floor cracking upon him landing.
Yoongi looked behind him and saw Logan glaring at him as he continued to skate around the room. Holly made a noise. "Holly, you have to hide somewhere. I don't want you to get hurt."
"No," Holly screeched as it snapped its teeth together and growled, wings flapping behind it as it flew. "Holly... stay. Holly... fight!"
Yoongi stared at Holly for a moment, smiling at how his dragon was willing to fight alongside him against all odds. Another true friend. This made him think about Jin and the other wonders and suddenly, he was filled with worry. How were his friends? How were you? Were you all doing well? Was anyone badly injured to the point that Jin couldn't heal them? He hoped not. He prayed that everyone was safe.
Something struck the ground near Yoongi's feet, making him snap back into reality and lose his balance. Slipping on the wheels of his boots, the fire gem bearer stretched out his arms to catch himself in his fall. He fell on his chest, pain shooting up his ribcage as Holly perched on the wall and released a grunt of worry.
"Holly, I'm fine," Yoongi responded as he sat up, his eyes widening when he saw a huge axe on the floor, right next to his left foot. Looking behind him, he saw Logan taking another axe from the wall, which had an empty space which obviously belonged to the weapon on the ground.
"There's no room for distractions, wonder. It might lead to your death," Yoongi watched in silence as Logan pulled back his sleeve, exposing his metal arm more. His eyes widened in horror when the Helian's arm seemed to unhinge and lengthen as multiple gears snapped to adjust to the weight of the humongous axe in his hand.
Not needing to listen to the sickening shifting of gears any longer, Yoongi quickly grabbed Holly and hugged the dragon to his chest before he continued to skate across the room. Almost right after, the axe flew and struck the wall, barely missing his head.
"You can't keep running from me, Min Yoongi!"
Yoongi glanced at Logan and saw him literally weapons from the wall before tossing them at him. As he used his boosters to dodge the spears, the fire gem bearer desperately made the gears of his mind run to think of some sort of plan. While thinking, he summoned and threw fireballs at the ruler, who either ran to dodge it or crossed his arms over his face to shield himself.
"Metal... melt!," Holly cried from Yoongi's arms, the grey haired man glancing at the dragon questionably as he levitated in the air for a few seconds because of his boosters.
"What do you me—," Yoongi was cut off by loud snapping and shifting of metal. Still in the air, he turned towards Logan and saw some kind of machine gun now attached to his robotic arm. How much more overpowered could he be?
"Try dodging these," Logan smirked as he cocked his gun and fired.
As bullets flew everywhere, Yoongi used his whole body to shield Holly as he turned away. Knowing full well that there was no way to dodge the bullets, he stayed in place and made sure his dragon friend was unharmed. He then felt two sharp pains on his shoulder and back, making him grunt in pain. The red dragon cried.
"The shots aren't fatal, Holly. I'm going to be fine," Yoongi whispered as he pet a crying Holly to reassure his feet. Landing back on the ground, he wobbled in place a bit due to the pain. "Listen, I want you to hide in between the rots, okay? The fight is only going to get more intense from here."
"No—"
"Holly," Yoongi's tone went stern, silencing Holly. He lovingly hugged the dragon as it nuzzled its snout to his chest. "Trust me. I'll be fine."
Holly stared at Yoongi worriedly with its beady yellow eyes for a few moments. It then nodded before it slowly flew up from his arms. "Trust."
Yoongi watched Holly fly away with a smile, which faded when he heard more whirring and shifting of gears. He turned around with burning eyes and saw Logan disconnecting the gun from his arm and tossing it to the ground. "You've got terrible aiming."
"That's because I didn't want to hit you," Logan chuckled and Yoongi watched as he removed his hand and blew on it before screwing it back to place. He only spoke after testing if his hand was working. "Where's the fun in killing you so early?"
"Then fight me like a man," Yoongi's eyes were bright orange as he stepped back with one foot and raised both fists in level with his head. Logan, who was still rubbing his metal wrist, raised an eyebrow at him questionably. "No weapons, just you and me, hand to hand combat."
Logan let out a sarcastic scoff as he slowly shook his head and walked towards Yoongi, who was taking slow and deep breaths. Once the ruler was close enough, the Helian balled his metal hands, which whirred as he flexed his fingers. "I guess we have an agreement."
Just as Yoongi expected, Logan was the first one to throw a punch. The fire gem bearer instinctively blocked the blow, arm throbbing due to how hard the metal material was. He then hooked the ruler's knee with his leg, causing both of them to fall.
Yoongi threw a punch aiming at Logan's face as soon as he landed on top of the Helian. He kept landing punch after punch on his face, hearing the collision of metal with his fists from under the skin. He found it strange, how the ruler wasn't fighting back or moving at all for that matter.
Truthfully, Yoongi thought he was already winning the fight, until Logan stopped one of his punches by grabbing it with his fist. Eyes widened, he lit flames around his hand and tried to overcome the ruler's strength. Instead, the Helian's grip tightened until he heard his hand snap, a loud scream of pain escaping from his mouth.
Yoongi was then kicked in the gut, which made him fly across the room and hit the rock wall before falling to the ground. Feeling wind hit his wounded skin, he noticed how his uniform had been torn, which he felt bad about because of Suran and Co.'s hard work. Holly screeched and spread its wings. "No, Holly! Sta—"
A kick on the face cut Yoongi and he spat out blood as he looked at Logan, who was giving him a sinister smile. Wiping the blood on his face, he clacked his boots together, summoning the boosters as he attempted to fly. However, the current of Vlam grabbed his boots, halting him.
Yoongi tried desperately to fly away and even shot out pillars of flames from his hands but his efforts were futile. Logan crushed the boots in his hands, which gave the fire gem bearer a great amount of pain due to his feet being trapped in the metal, before throwing him to the ground.
A small crater was created under Yoongi as he grunted, blood flowing down his nose. He tried to get up but was stopped by Logan, who stepped on his stomach and seized his neck with a tight grip. The grey haired man clawed at his throat and started to panic due to his lack of oxygen. He could already feel his throat burning. Holly was crying from its hiding place.
"Look at you," Logan hissed with a sly smirk as he used both his hands to choke Yoongi, whose vision was slowly darkening. "You intent on proving yourself this way, Min Yoongi? Please. How could you become Vlam's King if you can't even defend yourself? The truth is, you are nothing but a useless, pathetic kid."
As if those words had a spell on them, Yoongi's eyes shot open despite how he was slowly losing his breath. His words came out choked as he struggled for air. "What... did you say?"
"I said you are nothing but a useless, pathetic kid," Logan snapped as Yoongi's eyes slowly turned into a powerful bright orange. "Come on, you want to be ahead, right? Use everything. Sacrifice everything. Leave it all be—"
Snap.
Logan was cut off by Yoongi, who had regained strength and was now grabbing the ruler by the throat. His palm was scorching with flames to the point that the Helian's skin sizzled under his touch. The fire gem bearer's eyes were a bright orange, the color matching his gem, irises thin to resemble Holly's reptilian orbs. Red scales appeared under his eyes, on his cheeks and on his hands as his nails grew into talons.
Yoongi slowly peeled off Logan's hands from his neck as he leaned forward, his teeth long and sharp as he growled with an animalistic tone. "Shut your mouth, you piece of metal garbage. You know nothing about me. I am more than what you and everyone else claims me to be."
Logan's eyes were dripping with fear as Yoongi stood up despite the injuries on his feet and back, the Helian crumbling under his piercing fiery glare. Flames were burning from his back, the silhouette forming to resemble big dragon wings.
"Because I am Min Yoongi," Yoongi used all his strength to raise Logan in the air, the ruler desperately clawing at his throat as he wheezed. It backfired because the metal hands merely melted under the heat of the fire gem bearer's gloved hands. "And I am the rightful King of Vlam."
Holly cheered loudly from its hiding place as Yoongi threw Logan to the floor, which cracked and formed another small crater. The Helian quickly stood up despite the pain and used his feet to spring in the air.
Yoongi flicked his eyes towards the weapons on the wall and spotted a long metal spear. Grabbing it, he used his hands to heat up the tip before throwing it at Logan. The spear skewered the ruler right in the stomach, pinning him to the wall as blood trickled down the corner of his lip.
As Logan screamed due to the burning pain in his gut, Yoongi slowly stepped towards the Helian, his footsteps creating burn marks on the rock floor. The ruler carefully pulled the bloody spear out of his body before speaking. "You... You're a monster."
Yoongi paused, not really knowing how to reply to that. Instead, he faced the window and stared at the bubbling lava from the volcano's core. Metal melts. Glancing back at Logan, a small smile grew on his face as he replied. "Am I really?"
Raising a hand towards the glass, Yoongi commanded the lava in his mind and both he and Logan watched as it bubbled and boiled. Soon, a pillar of lava shot up into the air and swirled around in a ball. He raised two fingers, the lava shooting through the glass and flowing around his feet.
Of course, Yoongi was bit stunned by his newfound ability to control lava but Logan looked more afraid than surprised. The Helian scrambled to grab the weapons on the wall as the fire gem bearer sighed. "Logan, listen, I don't intend on—"
Logan started throwing random weapons at Yoongi, who calmly raised lava to melt the items before they could even touch him. It was obvious that the current ruler of Vlam was panicking out of his mind.
"Please listen to me," Yoongi moved slightly to the right and dodged an axe flying towards him. Logan was still scrambling for weapons. "I'm not going to kill you. I just want to talk. It isn't too late and there's still a way to change things for the better. I only want to help you."
"Shut up! Nobody ever helped me... so why would you?!," Logan screamed as he charged at Yoongi with a long katana. For a moment, the grey haired man only stared because those words were so familiar to him. It was what he had told you when you first met. Sighing loudly, he felt pity for the Helian as he moved to dodge the attack.
"Logan, plea—," Yoongi turned around, eyes widening when he saw Logan slipping on some lava on the floor and was now sliding towards the broken window. Knowing full well what was going to happen, the fire gem bearer ran towards the ruler. "Logan!"
Too late. When Yoongi reached the window and stretched out his hand in hopes to save Logan, the ruler had already fallen out. Hearing a splash, the fire gem bearer took a moment to contemplate whether he should look at the scene or not. Finally gathering the courage, he looked out the window's hole and saw the lava sizzling, only traces of the ruler's clothes left behind in the puddle. Floating in the hot lava was none other than Vlam's crown.
Yoongi just stared at the scene, trying to process what had just happened as his features turned back to his normal human-like form. During that moment of confusion, Holly flew and snatched the crown with its mouth before perching back on his shoulders. "I couldn't save him."
Holly poked its snout on Yoongi's cheek, making him turn and see the black crown in the dragon's mouth. He slowly took it and examined it, his fingers rubbing the dark hot charcoal. "Fault... not. Yoongi... king."
Yoongi glanced at Holly, a bit stunned at how the dragon had spoken his name for the first time. He looked back at the crown, knowing exactly what the next step was and that his next move was going to change his life forever. After swallowing dryly and hearing growls of encouragement from his dragon friend, he slowly placed the crown on his head.
A strong surge of power rippled throughout Yoongi's body as his eyes glowed, an inscription appearing on his gem. King. As the orange stone on his crown started to glow as well, he saw the Vlamian soldiers below, those who had appeared after hearing Logan fall, with their eyes turning back to their real orange color, purple rims disappearing from their pupils. Once they saw the new King of Vlam staring down from above, they immediately fell on their knees and bowed, their heads touching the ground.
Yoongi watched with wide eyes as each Vlamian soldier bowed one by one like dominoes. He ran his fingertips against the crown on his head, wondering how much Vlam had changed. Still, he felt stronger, more powerful and more confident. Holly released a loud triumphant growl and spread its wings.
"Yoongi!"
Turning around upon hearing his name, Yoongi saw the twin doors to the throne room slam open to reveal none other than Jin with disheveled blonde hair, the sight giving him a very strong sense of de ja vu, the other members of his team glancing from behind him.
"Whoa, everything is made of rock," Jimin gasped as he looked around the room with a slightly ajar mouth and wide eyes.
Jin stepped towards Yoongi and glanced at his crown for a moment before smiling and patting both of his shoulders. "So you did it. I knew you cou—"
Yoongi gave Jin a big hug, which caught the water gem bearer off guard and even made Hoseok gasp a bit too dramatically. "Thank you for believing in me."
It took a few seconds for Jin to register what Yoongi had just done and said. The blonde finally returned the hug and even pat the other's back a few times. "Hey, you're my friend. You shouldn't thank me."
Yoongi pulled away from Jin with a small smile before glancing at everyone else. Jimin was glancing around with big curious eyes, Namjoon standing behind him with his lips formed into a thin smile. Hoseok still looked he was muting out a dramatic gasp because of the hug. Jungkook had a soft bunny smile on his face and he could tell that the angel was reading his thoughts at this very moment, which was confirmed with a nod.
Finally, you, Emily and Taehyung were standing at the back, all with equally blank and reassured expressions on their faces. Yoongi glanced at Jin, who gave him a nod before he walked forward carefully, everyone else watching him in anticipation.
The first person Yoongi approached was Taehyung, who raised an eyebrow at the fire gem bearer's presence. Holly growled with a low tone and the grey haired man pet the dragon to reassure it. "Taehyung."
"Yoongi," Taehyung replied slowly, his lips curled into a frown and arms crossed over his chest. "What do you want?"
"I want to thank you," Yoongi's words definitely caught Taehyung off guard because the darkness gem bearer failed to hide the fact that his eyes had widened. The fire gem bearer watched as the taller man opened his mouth to speak, then closed them again. "Personally, you know. I mean, you did save both of our asses back there."
"That isn't why you approached me," Taehyung deadpanned with squinted dark eyes.
"Alright, you caught me," Yoongi sighed and raised both of his hands in the air. Taehyung continued to give him a questionable look as he whispered. "Listen, Taehyung. I know I already told you this but please take care of Sky, alright?"
"You don't have to tell me twice, Yoongi. I'll protect Sky with my life if I have to," Taehyung clasped a hand over his mouth after he finished speaking, almost as if he didn't mean to say those words. "I mean—"
"I know what you meant," Yoongi smirked as he reached out a hand, Taehyung staring at it with hawk eyes. "I trust you, okay?"
Taehyung licked his lips and stared at Yoongi's hand, a thousand thoughts seemingly crossing through his mind. He hesitantly grabbed the fire gem bearer's hand and shook it with a firm grip. The darkness gem bearer nodded with a determined look on his face.
Yoongi then faced Emily, who was standing in front of you. He gave the protector a look that told her how he really needed to speak to the guardian. Thankfully, Emily got the message and nodded with a soft smile before stepping away and moving to Jin's side.
The first thing you did when Yoongi was close enough was grab his arms. The fire gem bearer watched you in silence as you examined his body and stared at his tattered and torn uniform. Holly didn't snap its jaws at you, only stared quietly. "Yoongi, are you alright? You've got blood all over you. Look at your uniform, it's torn everywhere! And your feet."
"Sky," Yoongi's stern tone made you pause and look at him. For a few seconds, he was lost in your eyes. No amount of words can describe how beautiful you were. He knew that he loved you and would never stop loving you as long as he lived. He wished that moments like these, with the two of you staring at each other, would last forever. But he knew it wouldn't. "...Trust me. I'll be okay."
You were silenced by these words and continued to stare at Yoongi with no particular expression whatsoever. After a while, you smiled warmly and tilted your head to the side a bit, silver hair swaying to the side. "Yeah... I trust you."
Yoongi didn't hesitate to engulf you in a hug and ignored the boring stares he was getting from everyone else. He smiled at warmth you radiated and saw Holly fly away and perch on Namjoon's arm. Nuzzling his face into your neck, he gently rubbed your shoulder and back with his hands before softly whispering to himself. "I'll be okay."
